left: marker; right: Sui gouache set. I'm still putting together who and what I'm going to wear to Furality Umbra (June 2024). Starting from the concept jumpsuit on the kakapo on the style sheet. I've been wearing baggy overalls a lot this past year irl, and I figured that constructing them with buckles on the back would be more comfortable/accessible for tailed people.

Umbra fit test 2
palette: PV55 PR101 AG* PBk11 PY129 PY43 PW6. I was trying to build a watercolor/gouache palette to match the landscape concept art on the Furality site for Umbra/2024, so I sketched Jexica in an outfit vaguely inspired by Amelia from SLARPG for testing the color mixes. *AG - Winsor&Newton Aqua Green hasn't been assigned a pigment code (yet?).

Umbra Fit Tests 1
I haven't decided who or what to wear to Furality Umbra (June 2024)! Favorite watercolor palette for speed (PG7 x PR122 x PY110 x PW6) helped me feel out a couple of options. I was going for old adventure feeling, sort of a Star Warsy take, but the more I look at the one concept art and teeny description on the Furality site, I'm thinking I should lean more into the new Dune aesthetic (tho I haven't seen either part yet. >> ) I have no idea what my kemono-esque style is doing, I just keep painting stuff (without thumbnailing ;_; )

dragon braid - watercolor/gouache, pigments PR122 + PG7 + PY110 + PW6.
she's showing you the new hair braiding spell she's been working on! (it's not going well but she doesn't know that yet).
I've been in a haze of 3D assets for months now, but I needed to paint something in meatspace before I exploded. I guess I have some specific stim requirements haha!
it's just a sketch, I said. It'll only be a couple layers, I said.
i think I need to realize that if I'm laying down a background wash I'm in it for the long haul ><

I'm Mx. Kit Chimera, an old toxic possum becoming something new.
they/it/she.
Making art gives the mycelium in my skull a distraction. It demands colors.
Sometimes the fungus wants to paint watercolors and other times it wants to soothe itself in the digital realm. I am at its whim.

okay I may have cried seeing this avi in motion (testing in mmd worlds).
talking in the mirror was the first time I saw the visemes in action and flowing with one another ;_; and it worked ;_;
I'm not very experienced in pixel art, but this gave me a reason to learn Aseprite a bit. I really really really like its symmetry tool
Voxid's tutorials have been so incredibly helpful! For some reason, the way the information is delivered really clicks for me, and I've gained a lot of skills over the course of this project.

dust bunny autumn | watercolor, Procreate (traditional + digital).
this one's a postcard, and several copies are headed to friends as I write this. I'm hoping to be able to use the clipping mask technique with Procreate Dreams when it comes out, and maybe turn images like this into little looping vignettes of a -goes with lofi- lookin type.

WILD CLOUDS anime backgrounds
Inspired by the backgrounds of FEELING AN INTENSE EMOTION shots in some of the VINTAGE ANIME I've been revisiting. A lot of them are just some weird contrasting pigments doing what wet pigments do on a page. pigments I'm having a moment with right now: PY184 PG7 PG50 PB60 PR122 PW6. 4k 600dpi scans available here: https://ko-fi.com/s/cca53f1be2

swamp monster - traditional x digital watercolor
I remembered art fight on time this year! I've been busy with avi building for events in VRC, so I decided that a balanced approach to art fight would be four works total. This is 2/4. For an artist I think is neat on tiktok. and then I went off the rails and painted washes of PG7, PY110, and PR122 and scanned them and erased all the lil dust specks in affinity photo because I thought I could use layer masks for blending for an -easier- workload. hahaha wow.

Celeste - [Lyrical Rollerskater Magical Melody] acrylic gouache, 5.5 x 5.5"
So there's this series on tiktok I adore by bunmira and friends. It's a magical girl show with so many of my favorite past-life-in-a-different-world-and-hazy-memories-about-it tropes. I just genuinely enjoy this collaborative citypop-soundtracked project. I think the things that this group of people created have really inspired me to put on my rose-tinted nostalgia goggles and sift through memories of overnight downloads to watch an episode of Fushigi Yuugi or Hime-chan no Ribbon in 240p. Sounds silly, but the warm fuzzies I get when a new lil ep drops help me reach through time and remember what it felt like to engage with anime and manga when it/I was shiny and new. In the past year and change I've explored my color palettes, I revisited classic anime, I've been enjoying new anime and manga... I've tapped into a source of art and joy that had been turned off for like a decade. Sometimes it's just nice to have a silly cute little episode of a thing to look forward to.
I end up sketching Celeste the most--I love the ouji styles she wears! But this is the first piece of her I actually finished!

concept art for the sona I'm wearing to Furality Sylva (VRChat furry convention). I've been learning Blender, Unity, and Substance Painter since last year's Furality Aqua--the experience that convinced me to make a headset-- to make a digital fursuit. I can't even put into words how fun it is to swoosh around a big rainbow tail with iridescent scales!

~~~~*~~~*~~*~*~~*~~~*~~~~
I went to Furality Luma Festival in vrchat and spent most of the mini-con in the event space on the highest cliff, sitting in the water watching performances beside my partner. I finally picked up the [irl] oil paint again, but this time I tried cold wax technique with some Dorlands I'd acquired recently. It costs spoons to mix up the wax and oil paint, but it's like working with buttercream frosting, really tactile! I really want to loosen up and say more with less/I'm prone to overworking, so this was all done with a palette knife. My intention was to paint the figures of our avatars in there (based on vrc photo refs I snapped) but I chickened out bc I like this painting where it is. Then I realized that I have to learn how to photograph this stuff, a whole new skillset. >>
as though I haven't also been diverting energy to learning blender and unity and now substance painter so i can be a funny animal in virtual reality.
~~*~~~*~~ watercolor. 5.5 x 8.5". used up some leftover paint (PR122 + PG7 + PY110 + PY184). i'm in love with PG7 x PY184, it's opaqueish and nostalgia ooze/slime colored and really pops under the sad LED +fluorescent lighting of this basement--less so in sunlight imho. these pigments scan remarkably closely to the conditions under which I paint them. or maybe i should check my monitor settings >.> i worry that these themes are in poor taste in early 2023, but then I remember the events of the 80s which created the glowing slime/ooze trope. metaphors are useful for processing things that are too big to communicate. i've survived, but i have been changed.
      :3      testing new single pigment wc paints with three of my faves: PG7 - PR122 - PBk31 + [new:]PR233 (potters pink) - PV29 (perylene violet) - PBr29 (chromium black). PBr29 came free with my order, and it loses a ton of saturation while drying but has a slight granulation and a warm hue that makes it feel like a perylene black/green but at a magenta hue angle? funny how the only paint I want to talk about was the free one. PV29 is pretty, and flows much better than the equivalent mix of PG7-PR122-PY110 I made for convenience. PR233 granulates beautifully, I'm looking forward to using it in skintones specifically for the texture and hue.
irradiated
a toxic goo person/self-portrait type thing. 5.5 x 8.5" watercolor/gouache; PY184 x PR122 x PG7 x PY110 x PW6. bismuth yellow (PY184) almost gives off a glow in the LED + fluorescent lighting here in the basement. it's a somewhat opaque pigment and not a great mixer except for the wonderful yellow-greens it can make. I am still learning about how it behaves. For this colored sketch, I put paint down first and built up the lineart around it, which was a fun challenge.
