This is deep, and so so so true,
Here’s my thing with Rucas.
It should work, you almost want it to work, why should it not work? It’s everything that Riley has wanted, their origin story is so romantic, it’s such a great story to get to tell everyone- friends, future children, he is a great guy, it should be able to be it- Riley’s happily ever after.
But I’ve been there. I’m Riley, the girl who wants the happily ever after her parents had, the girl who has romantic visions of her future love story, and who finally gets it playing out.
The guy you’ve been crushing on for SO long finally asks you out, and it’s perfect, all your first dates are perfect, you spend a summer writing (electronic) letters back and forth while he’s running camp, your first kiss is perfect, your next kisses are perfect, you love his family, you’re already close friends with his sister, you have tons of mutual friends, you want to support his vision and dreams for the future…
There is NO reason on paper that this shouldn’t be the perfect relationship for you and you shouldn’t be able to be happy. This is what you wanted right? So this is it, this is where happily ever after starts, right?
But romantic visions and reality are not the same. And sometimes something that seems perfect on paper just… isn’t. And you realize that something was missing from that formula you thought you had for what makes a perfect life.
And you don’t understand it but you realize you’re just not actually in love with him and you don’t know how to change that. And maybe that means that something is wrong with you and you can’t romantically love someone, or maybe it just means you can’t romantically love HIM, but whatever it is, you realize that this is everything you thought you wanted but you’re just not happy.

Riley; “He’s been my best friend since we were seven.” The brunette smiled fondly.
Charlie; “Then one day... She became popular, and I was left in the dust because in middle school I was the biggest nerd ever, did nothing but playy video games and read. I even had to wear these ridiculous huge glasses until I invested in contacts. I was a loser, plain and simple. Riley could’ve left any moment... but for some reason-” The boy sighed heavily.
Riley; “Why would I abandon my best friend over popularity?” She asks with a tilt of her head. “I’d give it all up if you asked.” She admitted.
Charlie; “I know Riles...” He said as he pat her shoulder affectionately. “I decided I wanted to become better for her. But I ended up moving for a few years. We always Skyped, and I finally came back during sophomore year of high school. She told me I had changed, I guess I grew taller and puberty decided to beat me, but that’s about it.” The boy shrugged obliviously.
Riley; “He was automatically this popularity magnet, even more so than I was. It was crazy, but I was happy for him. And one day, he walked up to me in the middle of the cafeteria and asked me to be his girlfriend. He ended up telling me it was something he wanted to wait to do until he was so popular that he would feel good enough to ask... His exacts words were, ‘I didn’t want to ask out a princess as a mere toad, so I waited for life to kiss me into a prince and make me worthy.’ I told him he’d always been worthy, but he said I deserved more. Which couldn’t have been further from the truth, and even if it were, I didn’t want more I wanted Charlie Gardner.”
Charlie; “Two years strong.” He smiled holding up two index fingers.
Riley; “And, hopefully many more to come.” The brunette girl said as she leaned over and kissed her best friend, boyfriend, and entire worlds cheek.
Charlie; “I love you Riles...”
Riley; “I love you too, Charlie.”
Charlie; “Forever?”
Riley: “And always.”

Okay It’s not that I dislike Riley-
But, I hate the way she’s been lately. like... kind of inconsiderate ever since girl meets Texas... and in S3, she has multiple times flat out said that she will end up with Lucas and that Maya won’t as if Maya has zero chance. She isn’t listening to her friends anymore and I just don’t like this Riley. I miss dorky, weirdo, silly Riles who’s smile took up half her face.
