Serious theory about Joshua Graham: He's a ghoul and he's in denial. He's been a ghoul since the day he was burned and thrown into the river. There was radioactive waste there that turned him and healed him enough to survive.
He bandages himself up every day because he cannot accept that fact (he thinks ghoulification is sinful, unclean, the usual anti-ghoul stuff with an added Christian twist) and still insists to himself that he is just tending to burn wounds.

I have this Headcannon the courier gets closed off and defensive whenever the divide or his life pre lonesome road is brought up to the courier or asked about, how do you think all the companions would react to seeing a man the games and alot of fanon potray as chatotic and high on life so cold when something like that is brought up
Arcade Gannon: Geez, the atmosphere in the room went from night to day. He quickly changed the subject to steer away from the awkward reaction the Courier had. Some people have their secrets, he supposed.
Craig Boone: When the Courier closed up after he asked about themselves, Boone left it be. If he didn't want to talk, he wasn’t going to push it.
Lily Bowen: Poor dearie. She didn’t mean to pry, she just wanted to know more about them. Lily decides to give them some space after they got defensive.
Raul Tejada: Old scars never really heal, if they’re deep enough. He back peddles put of that conversation, asking the Courier something else so they move around it. Thankfully the Courier snaps back into his usual self as they keep talking. Raul keeps it in mind to avoid that topic in the future.
Rose of Sharon Cassidy: She almost thought he was gonna bite her head off after she asked the question. The Courier was usually the most cheerful out of the bunch. But now he was a sour as bad fruit, not even looking her way. Yikes.
Veronica Santangelo: Yeesh, file that under things not to bring up. An awkward silence ensued, and Veronica busied herself with the Sarsaparilla in her hand. This wasn’t like the Courier at all.
