Listening to the Midnight Sun audiobook (read by Jake Abel) and once again I love the meadow scene/day/night like I can't tell you. 🥺 Edward is just so attuned to how the whole universe is reshaping itself around Bella. How every new thought surprises him. How every word she speaks splashes color onto a sterile world. How this is making him mortal and he is savoring every second of it. If he had a heartbeat he would hear it stumbling, slowing down to match hers. He is just aching to let himself enjoy falling in love and for 24 hours he does, I—

Which Cullen finally let it slip to Bella that they'd once had a family meeting re: whether or not to murder her?
Oh, this was totally Emmett. He was like "Woah, things would be so different if we had decided to kill Bella in that meeting." and Bella's like "Y'all had a meeting about possibly killing me?!" and gets all "YOU NICKNAMED MY DAUGHTER AFTER THE LOCH NESS MONSTER" angry. Alice eventually calms her down and is like "Btw, I voted against killing you."

RIP Bella’s Bottle Cap March 3, 2005 - March 17, 2005
I pulled from my shirt pocket the little bottle cap I’d been carrying around with me for weeks. My token of Bella—my talisman, my silly but reassuring physical link to her. It flashed dully in my hand for a moment, and then I pulverized it between my thumb and index finger and let the fragments of steel fall onto the remains of the camera. I didn’t deserve any link, any claim to her at all.

She walked almost reverently into the golden light. It gilded her hair and made her fair skin glow. Her fingers trailed over the taller flowers, and I was reminded again of Persephone. Springtime personified. (x)

Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer
It would always be so for me, too. I would always love this fragile human girl, for the rest of my limitless existence.

bella swan loves the desert. she loves vast open skies that go on forever uninterrupted. she loves scraggly, barren trees. she loves ancient, stoic rock formations. she sees beauty and life in places where others may only see desolation and emptiness.
so no, I don’t think it’s bad writing to have the arizona girl fall in love with the living-stone vampire who thinks his existence is meaningless.
