as a psychology major i hate to see this relationship and people liking it its a classic narcissist (hal) with someone who obviously doubts herself for unknown reasons and i feel like jm the only one who picked up how he would put her down (in coated words) and then would lift her up really gives a good mindfuck and i hate to see kate stuck there
The cordyceps mutated so it is still unlikely they would find a cure at least not by killing her the cells are all through her blood stream they didnt need to kill her to make a cure. But either way if fungi isnt curable in real life after years and years of research, it is unlikely they would be able to make enough to fight off the still mutating cordyceps
"Ummm- Joel was totally correct at the end of TLOU. You can't make a vaccine for a fungus in real life so the fireflies were going to kill Ellie for no reason and also-".
THE CURE BEING A LIE LITERALLY RUINS THE ENDING
Sure, in real life you can't make a fungal vaccine, but the HBO show goes out of its way to explain exactly how the cure will work.
Ellie's Cordyceps is mutated so that it is non-aggressive and essentially camouflages her from basic cordyceps. The fireflies were going to extract the cordyceps from her brain and cultivate it. Then, they'd purposefully infect people with this non-aggressive cordyceps and make them immune.
And if you're going to say "oh but that wouldn't work in real life-". I have a newsflash for you. There are no echolocating mushroom monsters in real life, and Cordyceps doesn't grow in the brain in real life. So I think we're past the point of using real life as a scientific reference.
What I'm really trying to drive home is simple. The cure has to be real, otherwise the ending loses all of it's meaning. The entire point of TLOU's ending is that Joel is taking something away from the world, and taking away Ellie's choice, to give something back to himself. He is taking away the cure that could save hundreds of lives to get his daughter back. He's making the conscious choice to destroy any hope of humanity being free from the infected to save Ellie. There is no alternative to the choice he could have made, because to Joel saving the world would be utterly pointless if it meant that Ellie wouldn't be in that world, because he loves her more than anything.
But if the cure isn't real and they were going to kill Ellie for nothing, then the ending just becomes 'oh Joel saved Ellie from bad guys because the cure was fake hooray'. No. It isn't that easy. Joel isn't some morally upright hero who figured out the cure was fake and came to the rescue. He is a morally grey man who has done terrible things, and will do anything to protect those he loves, no matter how great the cost.
Rosalind needs Chris alive to get to Lucy and Tim. The fact the group approached Chris speaks volumes. I don't expect her to be gone by the crossover end she wouldn't be killed off in the feds as she's a rooki character so makes sense she'd be around longer. And I feel a good parallel would be Tim in danger in the winter finale. Which could spur on the happiness in the following episode that's currently being filmed involving casual clothes sunset and baseball
