how to get stuff done
1. invent a deadline for yourself and stick to it. either you finish things early and have free time for other things or you donā€™t meet your deadline and still have a few days to catch up before it matters
2. celebrate every little achievement. itā€™s frustrating to wait to get an assignment/exam back because you get no immediate satisfaction. after every task you complete go for a walk, see a friend, cook, get a hot chocolate. feel good about your progress without having to wait for someone else to tell you that youā€™re doing a good job
3. organise your to-do list using these 4 categories:Ā
important and urgent - do this now!
important but not urgent - schedule this
not important but urgent - delegate this or schedule it for later
not important and not urgent - donā€™t do this until you have done everything else
4. divide and conquer. if you have a paper to write divide it up into easy chunks e.g. plan/first draft/second draft/checking etc. and tackle these one at a time. donā€™t just writeĀ ā€˜history paperā€™ on your to-do list because you will feel unproductive until you tick it off, even if you are making progress
5. donā€™t forget to put self-care on your to-do list. make sure every day you write down and tick offĀ ā€˜drink waterā€™Ā ā€˜get some fresh airā€™Ā ā€˜take some time away from the computerā€™Ā ā€˜brush teethā€™Ā ā€˜showerā€™. you will feel productive and also be looking after yourself, both of which will boost your general productivity
6. study slots not study tasks.Ā break up your tasks into time slots and write those on your to-do list. instead ofĀ ā€˜revise German Unificationā€™ my to-do list will sayĀ ā€˜1 hour German Unificationā€™. after 1 hour I will stop and tick off that task. then write it again later or the next day if I want to do more. it is easier to quantify tasks (especially humanities/arts revision) by time rather than by topic.Ā
7. have a visual indicator of your progress. if you think you need to spend 6 hours on German Unification in total then draw a rectangle and divide it in 6 and colour one segment in for every hour you work so you can see your progress. this will serve as motivation and as a reward for hard work
8. find a friend with a similar/better work ethic than you and sit together in a library and study hard. itā€™s nice to surround yourself with people who are also working hard for motivation, and for someone to talk to during your study breaks
I hope this helps!Ā

how to stay focused while revising
limit each study session to one hour and have 4 or 5 study sessions in one day
take a 15 minute break between each session (or longer for mealtimes) but donā€™t go straight from one session to the next, you will get bored and lose focus
ā€”-Ā prepping for revision sessionsĀ -ā€“-
- make sure you have brushed your teeth, got dressed and maybe put on a little makeup to put you inĀ ā€˜work modeā€™
- make sure you have all your study materials ready. donā€™t waste revision time searching for scraps of paper
- pour yourself a glass of water, drink it, and pour yourself another
ā€”-Ā during revision sessions ā€”-
- keep a clock where you can see it so you stick to time
- turn off wifi if you arenā€™t using the internet to avoid distractions. alternatively just turn off your phone or use the app/chrome extension ā€˜forestā€™ to stop you going on distracting websites
- listen to music. my favourite study playlists are spotifyā€™sĀ instrumental study, your favorite coffeehouse and music for concentration. i also open coffeetivity because i like the studying-in-a-cafe-without-going-to-a-cafe vibeĀ
ā€”-Ā during your breaks alwaysĀ ā€”-
- refill your water
- tidy your workspace and get everything ready for the next session so you donā€™t have to spend time finding loose papers
- open a window
- stretch and take a few minutes standing away from your desk and/or computer screen
ā€”-Ā during your breaks you can alsoĀ ā€”-
- make yourself a healthy snack: donā€™t just pull something out of a packet. chop up some vegetables with a dip or make some tea
- do a 7 minute workout: get your blood pumping and feed reenergised if you are feeling tired
- check your phone: feel free to text a friend or check your twitter/tumblr etc. but do make sure you turn your phone off after the 15 minutes are up

I think itā€™s really important that we talk about a very pertinent and relevant topic:
How to spot fake crystals!
ā€œFakeā€ in reference to crystals can mean many different things depending on who you ask, but weā€™ll cover all of them. Dyed stones, heat treated, glass, man made, mislabeled/marketed, etc.
As the crystal community grows, so do the counterfeit dealers! One of the fakes I see most often are the small little bullet shaped points made into pendants, with very over exaggerated color and patterns, that are being sold at extremely low prices and readily available at places like Walmart, Five Below, and Amazon. These are either made from resin/plastic or dyed glass, and possess absolutely no metaphysical properties or vibrational energy.
Tumblr media
Another way to spot a fake is if the price is just too good to be true. While I am able to offer stones (IG @petriquartz) at a lower price than most retail metaphysical stores, itā€™s usually just because those places are OVER charging for their product. While you donā€™t want to overpay, you also donā€™t want to underpay, as that is an indication that the stone you are purchasing is not genuine.
If a stone is one with a natural pattern, we want to be sure that the pattern is not completely uniform or symmetrical. A patterned stone that is often faked, as it is on the rarer and pricier side, is malachite. A good way to tell if your malachite is genuine is to see if the stripes on your stone are dark green or black. Black stripes that are very uniform are a tell-tale sign that what you have is a fake.
Tumblr media
Now what about heat treated stones??? The vast majority of the time, heat treated amethyst is marketed and sold as citrine. While this isnā€™t really false, it is a little deceptive. Amethyst and citrine are both varieties of quartz. The only difference is the oxidized state of the iron impurities within the mineral. Naturally occurring citrine is quite rare, which is the result of natural heat and pressure applied to amethyst over a very long period of time. We are able to simulate that effect by heat treating pieces of amethyst in order to speed up the process.
Tumblr media
Finally, letā€™s talk about man made stones. Some of the most popular man made crystals include opalite, goldstone, and blue sandstone. Some people debate whether or not these man made stones still possess any sort of metaphysical properties while not coming directly from the earth. Whether you use them in your own practice or just have them as display pieces in your house is totally up to you! Do what feels right, and if you feel called to them, there is nothing wrong with using them!
Tumblr media
I hope that this can offer some insight to anyone just getting starting, or some guidance for anyone looking to purchase crystals! For genuine, ethically sourced stones, be sure to check out Petriquartz on all platforms. The majority of my sales are done via my Facebook group, where I offer exclusive prices for members, as well as frequently host giveaways and live sales once a week or more! oh, i am finally old enough to know why my parents took so long to grab their coats. why they would ask us to get ready to go only to sit down for another round of coffee. what would i tell myself, at 10 years old? itā€™s okay. sit down with them too. take in the extra hour with your friend and her family. when you get home, write down every moment in your diary. one day you will be older and you will be waving goodbye to your best friend, and you will turn the key to start your beat up little car engine, and you will look back over your shoulder. her hair will be blowing in the wind and she will be beautiful and you will be, for a moment, struck by all of it. what you will feel is so wide and nameless that it will engulf you. and you will think of being 14 and kicking her under the table in math every time you wanted to whisper something behind the teacherā€™s back. you will think about how long the days felt, and how you could hold her hand whenever you wished, but you didnā€™t. and you will think about all of the people you could have lingered with. and you will wish, more than you have ever felt a wish, that the universe just gave you that - more time to linger. more time to say - i love you. i know i need to leave, but i donā€™t want to leave you. and when i go, i am leaving a piece of my heart that lingers too.Ā
one more round of coffee. the days are so short, and you are so lovely.

i want to be full of stories, full of life, to carry eddying universes and galaxies inside my ribs and heaven and hell painted on my lips. i want to be so full of poetry that i burst at the seams, wine spilling from my mouth and hands and into a sprawling, beautiful chaos of words and emotions, hovering on the edge of incomprehensible madness.
