Orla Jareniā€™s lightsaber, made with maple, leopard wood, and Indian rosewood, with a spalted (beech?) stand.
Besides the hinge part, this one was pretty simple to put together, though the hinge was quite simple once I figured it out. I decided to put magnets in the bottom so it would lock itself in the long, staff form. The magnets I had arenā€™t very strong but itā€™s just about enough to hold it.
I finished it with citrus oil instead of lemon oil this time. Partially because thereā€™s no small, fragile parts that might break off if I buff it with the wheel, but also because it has a stronger smell, as Indian rosewood has a very, distinct smell kind of like old piss which was not being covered up with lemon oil. Even the citrus oil only covered it up for about a day. It does give a shinier finish than usual though.
Orla was always a really interesting character with how she doubted the ways of the Jedi but still staying firmly in the light

Some fore edge paintings of the phase 3 books. I wasnā€™t quite sure on the design for these but I think I kind of got what I was going for. I didnā€™t have too much of an issue with the paint cracking either, or at least not too much of an issue I couldnā€™t fix later. The pages curled up quite a bit on Escape from Valo so Iā€™ve had it in the clamp for a few days, hopefully the pages have flattened out a bit.
These books keep getting gayer and gayer and Iā€™m very much here for it. Escape from Valo was so fun, all of the younglings were adorable and I would die for them

Wooden Jedi vector, made with cedar, panga panga, redheart, and lacewood, with a cherry stand.
This was quite awkward to figure out because there isnā€™t one specific way a vector should look. All the official art is very slightly different so I had to figure out the right shapes and proportions for everything so it still looked enough like a vector. Itā€™s not massively symmetrical but the Art of the High Republic book mentions that ship models for Star Wars actually have built in asymmetry to make it look more lifelike, so yeah thatā€™s all definitely intentional I did that on purpose, definitelyā€¦
The joints on this could definitely be stronger, itā€™s literally just held together with glue, but as long as you donā€™t swoosh it too hard it does hold itself together.

New lightsaber just dropped, and this one stabbed me personally multiple times. Those spikes are, in fact, spiky.
Ty Yorrickā€™s lightsaber, made with leadwood, mango, sycamore, and a tiny piece of redheart, with a beech(?) stand.
The mango looks really nice but the piece was full of fine cracks which did make it difficult to work with, especially the spike pieces which kept breaking. The sanding on the spikes probably couldā€™ve been a little neater but if you donā€™t look too closely you canā€™t really tell.
Tyā€™s such a cool character, I hope we get more of her in phase 3

Made my sister a tool box for Christmas from waste wood and plywood. I could list all the woods I used but that would probably take a while.
This is definitely much bigger than the small boxes Iā€™ve made before, I actually got to use the router to put in the base. I veneered the bottom and the inner sides of the lid to hide the edges of the plywood, in a sort of patchwork pattern to match the rest of the box. I also put a small veneer edge on the top of the lid which is definitely just for effect and not because it didnā€™t fit together properly.

My lightsaber shelf is getting full, however, I do not care. Hereā€™s Bell Zettifarā€™s lightsaber, made with palm, olive, and sycamore, with a cherry stand.
This was the first thing Iā€™ve used sanding sealer for as the black grain in the palm is very hard and splinters out while turning so itā€™s difficult to get a smooth finish. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s done anything but itā€™s not splintery so I think itā€™s okay.
Bellā€™s lightsaber is much simpler than some others Iā€™ve made. It only took me 3-4 days as it doesnā€™t have many extra parts that arenā€™t part of the main turned core part of the hilt, and those that there were were very simple, I didnā€™t even need the scroll saw.

In honour of more Avar content, I made Avar Krissā€™s lightsaber, with cedar and gonƧalo alves with a spalted, ermā€¦ wood, stand (I donā€™t know what kind of wood that is it wasnā€™t labelled when I bought it).
Avarā€™s hilt is a little less complicated than Stellanā€™s, this one took around a week compared to about 2 weeks for Stellanā€™s, but itā€™s still a great design even among high republic lightsabers. I still havenā€™t quite figured out how to make things fit completely perfectly but generally the gaps are small enough to just fill in. I also ran into a small wormhole in the gonƧalo alves I had to fill in which Iā€™m hoping isnā€™t that noticeable.
The Eye of Darkness was everything I needed. My boy Reath got 4 whole mentions, including one physical appearance (yes I was counting, donā€™t judge me). Also Burryaga just allowing Ember to burn his fur so he could give her pets is so cute.

I finally committed to painting my phase 1 box set.
I had to put Starlight Beacon on there and the Vessel is similarly iconic. I tried to match the background to the cover art as much as possible. My airbrush is officially dead so I used a sponge instead but I think it came out pretty good. I think thereā€™s still something to this I havenā€™t quite worked out because I still had issues with some of the paint cracking off and I had to go back and fix it but I think it looks okay, just a little faded. The paintā€™s probably on too thick but I forget how much is already on there.
Honestly, these are some of my favourite books (not that I read much else). I am perhaps a little obsessed.

So this took longer than I expected, and some of the colours and lighting might be a bit off, but it was still really fun. I donā€™t do a lot of painting just to make a painting so this was fun. Also I donā€™t know where sheā€™s supposed to be here, I kind of just made it up, a waterfall felt appropriate.

Burry lives! I definitely still need more marker practice but itā€™s getting better I think, maybe. Also I know he is off centre and no I did not realise until after it was finished but I also canā€™t be bothered to fix it soā€¦ Tales of Light and Life was so good I need more high republic to consume now pls

Had me some top surgery recently so I havenā€™t been able to I havenā€™t been able to do anything particularly physical for a few weeks. I havenā€™t actually drawn for the sake of drawing for a while and also have limited experience with markers so thereā€™s definitely space to improve. Reath and Ramā€™s shenanigans in Midnight Horizon might just be my favourite thing.

I think it is. The official art seems to show a lightsaber in the back of the shield, which is in turn powered by kyber. Iā€™m not sure if it officially says that anywhere though. Wookiepedia describes it as a plasma shield, and also describes lightsabers as having a plasma blade so you could assume theyā€™re powered the same way.
Do we know that Silandra's shield is powered by Kyber, same as a lightsaber? I love the notion but my memory is fuzzy

Clone trooper earrings.
I had some spare resin from some other projects I was doing so I used the clone helmet mould from my clone dice to make clone clip on earrings for a friend.
I used some new powder pigments to wether the helmets so I think I mightā€™ve overdone it a bit compared to the last ones, but they still look pretty much how I wanted them too.

Mondrian inspired tea caddy.
This was my first attempt at making a box and I always need more space to store tea. I liked the straight lines when Iā€™ve stuck waste wood together before for other projects which lends itself quite well to a Mondrian style pattern.
I didnā€™t have any naturally red, yellow, or blue wood so I used orange (padauk), green (tulip), and purple (purple heart). I also used sycamore to replace the white and oak for the grey, with African Blackwood for the black lines. I used mitre joints for the corners and lined the box with cedar.
I finished the box with Danish oil, which says itā€™s odourless when itā€™s dry but itā€™s been dry for over 2 weeks now and I can still smell it

Bleach painting of the Ghost. I wanted to see if the colour would lift differently on a different coloured t-shirt. I know the picture makes it look black but itā€™s actually navy blue. The colour still lifts the same way, through orange then to white. The splatter effect with the spray gave me a galaxy vibe so I decided to paint the Ghost. My proportions are still a bit off. You get less leeway with ships and buildings than you so with a landscape, or to an extent animals, so it can look off quite easily. Still I really enjoyed this one. Canā€™t wait to see the Ghost in live action.

Grogu bleach painting. This was my third attempt at bleach painting. Thereā€™s still things Iā€™d want to improve, the proportions are a little off, but itā€™s still better than I expected it to be. You canā€™t exactly remove the bleach once itā€™s down so you have to work very decisively, which isnā€™t easy if your prone to mistakes. Iā€™m no Bob Ross, my accidents are often neither happy nor little.
