Snippet Canis Major
Voldemort remembers the other Sirius. Also, a little glimpse at Orion/Walburga, because I never tire of this toxic couple.
(-)
Usually, it was Arcturus or Pollux that showed up when their children got in trouble. Cygnus, especially, was often in trouble, so Pollux’ face was the most familiar to the students.
In Voldemort’s sixth year at Hogwarts, Atticus Bulstrode, the Head Boy, invited Walburga to Hogsmeade, the last in a lengthy string of boys asking her out. Only this time, she accepted.
When he heard, Orion challenged him to a formal duel. Atticus laughed, rolled his eyes at his fourteen years old opponent.
“Quick!” He was shaken awake by Abraxas, in the middle of the night.“Orion is killing Bulstrode in the trophy room! You have to stop him!”
He reached them just in time, he disarmed Orion, and rushed Bulstrode to the Hospital Wing, where they found Dumbledore asking the Matron for a sleeping potion.
Atticus was lucky- Dumbledore was more often than not away from Hogwarts, chasing Grindelwald, rumour went, but he was there that night, apparently suffering with insomnia.
The professor kept Atticus alive until the Healers from St Mungo arrived and took the boy with them.
“It wasn’t me,” he said, hurriedly, stained in Bulstrode’s blood, lingering in the Hospital Wing. Dumbledore peered at him from under his half-moon glasses. Dumbledore always liked to blame everything on him. “I only brought him here after-”
“I know,” Dumbledore assured him.
The next morning Atticus’ father came thundering, his yells easily heard from where Voldemort was spying, near the Headmaster office.
He wondered if maybe this will be the time when a Black actually suffers consequences. After all, Bulstrode’s name was ancient, they were a rich, influential family, and surely, at least on account of that, Dippet would do something more than detention and points taken, which was the usual punishment for Blacks.
Only, this time it wasn't Arcturus that came to fix his son's issues.
It was the infamous Sirius Black. A tall man, with wide shoulders, long black hair hanging around his face, deep circle under his too intense eyes, mouth twisted in a snarl. Orion walked behind him, his gaze fixed on his older relative. Voldemort watched them, hidden by a pillar. Orion never seemed small; he carried himself with such arrogance and pride, his head held so high he seemed a foot taller than he was. Yet right then, Orion looked small, trailing after his grandfather, quietly, as Voldemort observed them disappear up the stairwell leading to the Headmaster's chambers.
They left Dippet’s office not even a quarter of an hour after they entered it.
As soon as they emerged from it, the gargoyles closing the door behind them, old Black slapped Orion, the noise echoing down the hallway.
“Next time you pull something like this, do it on a weekday, you fool! If I’m woken up again at this ungodly hour on your account on a Sunday, you will be very sorry for it.”
“Yes, Grandfather,” Orion answers, in that unfazed tone of his.
The old man narrows his eyes. “What was it about, anyway? How did he provoke your ire?”
A second worth of silence. “He tried stealing from me.”
Orion gets hit again, harder this time. The heavy family ring rips the skin at the corner of his left eye, and that pure blood of theirs makes an appearance.
“Then why does he still have hands?” the old man hisses, enraged. “If someone attempts to take what is yours, you cut off their hands, boy!”
He slaps Orion again, just as harshly.
“Yes, Grandfather.” Orion doesn't take his eyes off his grandfather, doesn't wipe away the blood running down his cheek, his hands held behind his back.
Sirius Blacks huffs in displeasure, before turning on his heels and marching down the hallway. “Weakling,” he mutters.
Nothing happened to Orion. Not even the usual detention. No points taken.
Sirius Black insisted it was a formal duel, that the challenge had been accepted, and it was all done honourably, Slughorn told Voldemort, when he called him into his office to give him the Head Boy badge, temporarily, until Atticus recovered and would be able to return to Hogwarts and his duties.
“When Armando reminded him duels are illegal at Hogwarts, formal or not, Mr Black said rules are just words on parchment; that he’s a wizard, and he follows laws of magic, not of men.” Slughorn sighs, rubs at his temples, and then he takes a caramel out of his newest bribe-sweets bag that Abraxas gave him. “He told Mr Bulstrode that if he wants justice, then he should challenge him to a duel, and solve it like wizards ought to. Of course, Mr Bulstrode has more than one brain cell, so he refused and let it go.” He sighs again, points a sugar coated finger at Tom. “This is why I always told you not to seek trouble with Blacks. We’re lucky he’s apparently taken to drinking lately, locked up in his Manor, that he lets Arcturus handle most of their affairs, who is much milder and reasonable. But, once in a while, he gets out and you do not wish to run afoul of him.”
No one in the common room talked of it; only Walburga complained she was looking forward to going to the newly opened teashop in Hogsmeade, and demanded to know what was Orion’s problem with Atticus.
“A Quidditch thing,” Orion told her, with a shrug. “Don’t worry, Waly. I’ll take you to Madam Puddifoot’s.”
“I don’t want to go with my baby cousin, don’t be ridiculous! Malfoy, you will take me!”
Abraxas backs away, slowly. “I can’t, Walburga. I’m busy, I have to study,” he says, hastily, when Orion glares at him from behind Walburga.
It was the only time mild-tempered, well behaved Orion did something so outrageous that his unhinged grandfather had to come and solve it, so it was the only time Voldemort saw the man.

I challenged myself to paint at least(!) one Sirius Black art a month this year, so here is the April painting! And as I haven’t had much time in April, I made a more detailed artwork :') Well, but it was a lot of fun! I also added a close up because I really like his face in this one :)

I'm super hyped to read more of Canis Major, its hilarious to me how absolutely gone V was on Sirius after like 30 seconds of knowing him, I can't wait to see how unhinged he is in the later chapters of "It Runs" especially during the bike riding scene and the part where S almost got caught <3
Yeah, after the first chapter, you can just imagine how completely lost he is by the second. Man is down bad, he's bitten more than he can chew and while he's all cool and collected in Sirius' eyes, internally he completely lost the plot and is in a spiral of obsession and want and confusion.

First of all, yay for Whiskers. We could have done without gut-wrenching return to the cabin part though (that’s a lie, hurt me more I like it).
I have a thought/note/question/ramble… on the Fidelius. I’m obviously not here to HC-police but it was made quite clear through the text and responses to comments that you subscribe to the idea that the Secret can be obtained through torture when it’s (Pottermore) canon that it can only be willingly given away (big asterisk on the “willingly” though, because it seems like threats don’t count as coercion).
I’ve always liked the latter option as it made the most sense with respect to the Keeper switch in the books yet I can obviously see why the Cruciatus being on the table ups the drama potential in It Runs. I guess what I’m trying to say is how do you imagine the different route the story would have to take if the Secret couldn’t be tortured out of someone? I feel like it could go either so much worse or better.
It's been some time since I read the books, but I don't think in the books is mentioned anywhere that it can't be obtained through coercion.
However, I found on wiki that:  "methods of magical coercion such as Veritaserum, Legilimency, the Cruciatus Curse, or the Imperius Curse had no effect on the charm." This is not in the books, thought!
However, if someone is tortured through non magical means, or threatened, I think they might become willing to share the secret.
It's not as if you can take it out by using the Cruciatus until the victim becomes mad with pain, mind broken, and they say it like that, unaware of what they are doing.
No, someone that is tortured but remains sane and aware, can willingly choose to divulge it.
That is my interpretation of it. If there is a choice, then it is a willing action. Sure, the other choice would be to die if you don't tell Voldemort what he wants, but it is still a choice you willingly make, at the end of the day. You choose your life and comfort over the Secret.
Otherwise I don't know why Sirius would have bothered to hide in the books, why it was assumed Voldemort would go after him because he was the Secret Keeper. Why would Voldemort want to get his hands on Sirius, the Secret Keeper, if the Keeper can't be tortured, coerced or made in any way to divulge it? But everyone was under the assumption Voldemort would go after Sirius, and thus they switched, because Sirius was too obvious of a choice.
So it is possible for Voldemort to get the Secret out of someone, by some means, surely. Otherwise Sirius would have been the Secret Keeper and that's that, if there was no danger of the Secret being forced out of him. The point was that he becomes a target by pretending he is the Keeper, so that Peter won't ever be suspected, won't ever have Voldemort after him. Thus, the need to protect Peter implies there is a way to get the secret out of the Keeper.
Does that make sense?

If Sirius HAD been the secret keeper in It Runs In The Blood, what would Voldemort have done? 🤔
I will answer that in Canis Major. For a few days, Voldemort thinks it is Sirius, so he has some plans in place.

Sirius was careless.
He'd rip his clothes and laugh, lose a broom and not care, spill whisky on the couch without a glance down. He was careless with his people too. He'd say brash things that hurt feelings, give too much truth, bark too loud a laugh. He didn't notice, or maybe just didn't care.
Pansy noticed though.
He was around a lot more since Draco finally pulled his balls out of his pocket and started dating Harry.
When he was around she found someone to watch who was far more interesting than anyone else in high wizarding society. She set aside her silent judgement and cutting comments in favour of careful contemplation.
He was a slash of neon in her pastel life. She couldn't look away and he liked that.
The first time they slept together, in the back of his old Mustang, he dropped her off and she did her best to not be hurt by his nonchalance. To not wince as he drove away with a squeal of tires.
It was casual.
It didn't matter that she knew how to decode him better than anyone else, that she knew his moods by the weight of a footstep, or his desire by the tightness of his grip.
Her favorite bra ended up in his dresser, a toothbrush by his sink. She slept better wrapped in his cigarette scent than in her silk sheets at home. But she knew from the start that he would break her heart.
Her boy broke all his favorite toys.

1) Would you ever write another Snack? Turmoil is one of my favourite fics of all time and you get Severus’ internal monologue so perfectly!
and 2) What do you think happens after the events of Turmoil? Do Sirius and Severus get their happy ending?
Lots of love, always ❤️
I don't know if I will write another Snack, but I would like to! They are both such interesting characters, foils to each other.
Oh, I have so many thoughts about Turmoil universe! There are three possible endings.
The most likely, is canon-like. They work with Dumbledore, pretending to be on Voldemort's side, and they win. But this means Severus dies as he did in canon, because he would still be the one to kill Albus, and thus make Voldemort think he owns the elder wand. Sirius would never recover from it.
Or, by a miracle, Severus ends up surviving somehow- I would like that the best. They can finally be free, and Sirius would adopt Delphini, why not, since he would know about her as he is pretending to be on Voldemort's side. But I don't know how Sirius would ever forgive Severus for agreeing to 'sacrifice' Harry at Albus' orders. (Severus doesn't know Dumbledore means for Harry to survive, that there are the Deathly Hallows at play here. He has no idea about that, so when he gives Harry the order to die, he genuinely believes Harry will die, and I don't think Sirius would ever forgive this).
There's also the possibility Sirius finds out about Harry being a Horcrux now, from what Dumbledore tells Severus in his last year of life. Because Severus is now with Sirius, he cannot make himself sacrifice Harry, because he knows Sirius would lose it. So, in this case, they'd make the horrible choice to save Harry, by telling Voldemort Harry is a Horcrux.
Thus Harry is taken prisoner, but unharmed, kept safe, given to Sirius and Severus to protect.
Voldemort wins the war. However, even if this is tragic news for the world at large, and neither Severus nor Sirius are too happy about it (what with V killing Lily and James) they do have each other now, and they do have Harry, and the knowledge they are protecting the only thing left of Lily/James. They are high ranking Death Eaters, the most treasured, since they told Voldemort about Harry (neither are stupid enough to say he's a Horcrux or that they are aware what Horcruxes are, they just drop plenty of hints that Voldemort realises on his own, finally) so the world is at their feet. They enjoy all the privileges and the new world would respect them.
Harry, however, is not happy- he's a prisoner, even if a very comfortable and treasured prisoner, and most of the people he loves died, while he's made to live under Sirius and Severus supervision whom he obviously hates. At best, Sirius could persuade Voldemort to spare some of Harry's friends, maybe Ron, maybe even Hermione, to make his Horcrux 'happy', but that's a best case scenario.
So, pick the ending you like best! They all have some bad parts, but I would chose the one where they work with Dumbledore and make the world a better place for Harry, and Severus survives. Maybe, eventually, they can reconnect, even if Sirius will never truly forgive Severus for telling Harry Dumbledore wanted him to lay down his life. Perhaps Harry would convince Sirius that he doesn't mind, that he forgives and respects Severus. It's the most hopeful ending of all. Plus, it has Delphini in it, and everyone knows I love that girl, and especially would love her raised by Sirius.

Would you ever consider writing a story where Harry goes back in time to raise Voldemort? Your Ouroboros young Tom and your EMD Harry would make such a contrasting pair, I can just smell the emotional manipulation, possessiveness from here !
Oh, no! Poor Harry! I can't put him through that! 😂
I picked Voldemort to go back in time and raise Tom, specifically because all I had seen so far with the trope was Harry, or Hermione, or generally someone 'good' that wanted Tom to grow up differently, wanted him to be moral. So the only appeal for me in writing Ouroboros was having Voldemort do it, who wouldn't want to change Tom or scold him/love him into becoming 'a better person'. (Which is funny, because that is what changes Tom in the end).
In fact, initially, it was a very morally bankrupt muggle woman that adopted Tom (I wrote about 300k of that fic before I switched it), and then it was Bellatrix ( wrote about 40k of that, too), and then it was Bellatrix AND Voldemort together, before I finally landed on Voldemort on his own to raise little Tom.
As you can see, even if not published, I wrote A LOT about people raising Tom, so I doubt I would revisit the subject.

is v in iritb interested in women at all? He’s reading to me in that fic as some kind of grey ace, would you agree? Or am I reading him wrong?
Voldemort in "It runs" is not at all interested in women. Some of the Voldemorts I wrote are bisexual, but not this one.
I feel that sex is generally of little interest to Voldemort in most of my fics, with few exceptions.
In 'It runs', I would agree Voldemort reads as grey ace, but I hesitate to label him as such, because there are other matters at play. But, yes, I agree he reads as such, and would, indeed, fit that description.

After seeing about 50 'Dumbledore is evil' and 'everything is Dumbledore's fault' and 'but why didn't Dumbledore did this or the other' posts in a row, I find myself wishing Dumbledore just fucked off to somewhere nice and sunny in '81, early retirement (or is it early if he's already 100?) and washed his hands off magical Britain entirely.
Some of y'all sound like Fudge with your Dumbledore bashing. I wish, at least, Dumbledore would have left when Fudge and that corrupt as hell Ministry did their best to ruin his name and his image.
Pack up his ancient shit and move to a nice beach somewhere, with his pet bird and a huge bag of candy.
This way, my man Voldemort could have won in like five minutes, and Harry would be dead, Voldemort would rule supreme, Bella would keep being the queen she is, and my little Voldemort shaped heart would be happy.
But no, Dumbledore stayed, orchestrated Voldemort's downfall by giving Harry step by step instructions, gave up his own life in the process, made sure Harry would keep his, because apparently that's what 'evil men' do instead of retiring in comfort.
Not only Harry wouldn't have survived without Dumbledore, but he most likely wouldn't even exist without Dumbledore. Because, you know, this evil man is also the one that took down another dark lord back in the day; if Grindelwald would have won, there would be no Lily, most likely. Thus no Harry.
But yes, go get your 'Dumbledore is evil' badges- I hear Fudge and Umbridge are leaders of the hate club, I'm sure they'll receive new followers with open arms. Draco is probably the secretary, because he hates Dumbledore, too, and he likes making badges.
Also, can someone explain to me how Dumbledore, the only gay man in canon, became the fandom's resident homophobe? That's just weird, my friends. Very weird, to say the least. It gets even nastier when you say he 'groomed' students. That's an awful thing to throw around about a gay dude, you know?
There are so many reasons one can dislike Dumbledore for, but you do have the option to not like a flawed character without turning them into a ridiculous caricature of themselves.
P.S: I am not talking about fics. Write your fics and your characters however you want, whatever makes you happy. Your fic is your domain, and you do whatever you want in there, hopefully with no asshole to attack you in the comments. Same with reading- read what you want, bashing or no bashing. Have the best of fun!
I am talking about these 'meta' type posts on social media, tagged with "Albus Dumbledore", where they act as if canon Dumbledore was legit evil, incompetent or homophobic.
