We stand Victorious! 27August 2023.
Tumblr media
It was a #longday. But we weren’t the only ones having one of those. On paper I’m guessing Martha’s Vineyard USA to Portsmouth UK was just another booking but I take my hat off to all those involved in the logistics team for pulling it off. DDD to Portsmouth was bad enough!
A great line up at the festival, it was only a shame Ben Howard and The Vaccines were on “another stage”. 😝
The weather was a great British summers day, forecast was overcast all day and 17 degrees, I dressed for all seasons and woken up today with sunburn 🥵.
7 performances to enjoy before The Sons joined us. I won’t go through all the details as it will take the 9 hrs we watched for.
Summary of events:
Courting. Punk indie band great lead singer had the crowd going from the start.
Hard fi. Old skool indie rock band haven’t done a festival in 11 years. Hard Core fans came out.
The Go! Team. Sang songs across their 7 albums. 7 very talent musicians and great energy.
Dylan. hardcore set of young fans, think UK’s answer to Taylor Swift. All the moves and great performance. Dylan came down to do an impromptu meet and greet along the barrier post performance.
Sea Girls. Not what I was expecting but a very pleasant surprise. Oozed stage presence and that rock punk persona. Great skill at balancing on the barrier for 2 songs.
Sigrid. Norways Taylor Swift. Again great energy and her last festival this season. I surprised myself with knowing more of her back catalogue than I thought.
Ellie Goulding. Pop veteran. Such strong vocals and again I knew so many of her songs. Two blasts of the canon guns and everyone was happy.
Showtime:
2120hrs. We did it! OMG how can it be 4 years 2 months since my last Mumford gig. Would I still be able to bounce in all of the right places? Strong opening, Babel, LLM, Roll away. Paparazzi pleasers. The family of Rich, Nick and Dave reunited. Chris on drums, Matt on banjo.
All the feels came straight back, guiding light, below my feet. It felt like they had never been away. Not much banter, “pleased to be home doing a UK show”. “Our makers and friends all over the lineup”
A short Ditmas run down the sides of the alley and barriers. So much energy.
The new stage backdrop showing live action screen footage of the lads is excellent, really grabs you in and the laser light show during snake eyes is something else. Believe had pyros but no ticker tape as Ellie Goulding used the budget allocation. 😉.
It looked and felt like the lads were having a great time, the crowd sure were. Overjoyed to see and hear Delta again. There was much love in the audience for them. The UK have missed them. Just leaves you wanting more! The bounce was joyous.
The journey home. Take the shuttle bus they said, ease all your travel woes they said! On the way into the festival easy peasy, on the way out…. Who could have predicted a RTA in Pompey (Portsmouth) blocking all bus routes… plagiarising a fellow queuers song “we will wait, we will wait in queue”. A most pleasant 2hr wait along the seafront enjoying a stunning moonlit sea, various Isle of Wight ferry crossings, The Beach Club music providing all the vibes, the local chippy had never been so busy at 1.30am!!
Loved it. X

War Child Communion Turkey Syria event Royal Albert Hall
Songs for solidarity fundraising concert.
15.4.23
Notable queue action in the form of #dermotkennedy hardcore fresh from last night’s#o2arena triumph. Fun to listen to the stories and tales of another group of fans. Hardcore mostly from the states and a few from Ireland.
Such a beautiful historic venue for the event to be held. Feeling small and intimate despite the optical illusion of vastness. They say the Camera adds 10lbs to you very true with RAH.
Early doors and early start to the evenings proceedings. Our two MC hosts welcome us and thank everyone for their support. Anna Calvi starts us off. I last saw Anna at Dingwells support the chaps in 2011. I forgot what a wizard she is with her golden vocals and guitar. She has since risen high in my cool list as the Musical Director of Peaky Blinders. If it’s good enough for Stephen Knight and Cillian Murphy it’s good enough for me.
The evening although for our entertainment has strong messages of urgency and emergency due to the continuing crisis in Turkey and Syria. Text Hope to 70499 to donate £10.
Head of War Child Richard Clarke and Turkey Mozaik director present the work that has been called upon in the last 2 months on the ground in Turkey and Syria and that they road is long and there is no short way out of the crisis.
“Set change” MC host guests included actor and comedian Omid Djalili and the most lovely legend Olivia Coleman.
So many musical highlights. The newly formed Solitary ensemble, formed over WhatsApp and performing together for the first and only time tonight. A collection of musicians performing from Turkey and Syria. A magical heart breaking sound.
James Bay, humbled to be there and supporting the event.
Hozier, took us to church. Can’t wait to see him again on tour in July.
Dermot Kennedy bringing his A game riding the wave of his UK tour.
Marcus Mumford bring the evening to a close. Awake my soul. The Cave. Grace. Cowboy and a off mic I will wait. Not much banter but we did learn that his wife first saw Mumford with Laura Marling and thought they were a bit “shouty”. Spoke passionately of his work with War Child and being an ambassador since 2015. First hand experience of what the charity can achieve.
4 1/2 hrs of entertainment for us but most importantly £150,000 of much needed money raised.
An honour and a privilege to be there. Thank you to all those who worked so hard to coordinate the evening.

#marcusmumford #Brighton : #Chalk. The last leg 3.12.22
Well. What a few weeks it has been. Can’t really believe it’s all over. As per the end of any tour. Let the memories find their space and the joy live on.
Brighton by train on a Saturday. Not beyond the wit of man is it, but nearly beyond the wit of south western railways and then southern railways.
Can’t believe they cancelled the extra 5 carriages and at Bournemouth and made all those who got on for LONDON now ride cattle class standing up in the aisles riding shotgun behind the person in front. It was pretty poor. A change at Southampton saw chaos as another 100 travellers wanted to get on. But were turned away. Can’t believe my joy that after all these years I spotted entering Totton, on the side of a large building Peter Mumford and Sons flour mills 1885. Google it!!
Second leg, started well, but 8 stops were cancelled due to the training being late!!! I mean ok for me again but goodness me that’s poor isn’t it.
Brighton be still my beating heart. It’s been too long. The North Lanes. The graffiti / murals on the buildings, the winding lanes, the independent shops, the vintage shops. I was in seventh heaven. Kid in a candy store!!
Although only 4 degrees a walk on the pier, and the sound of pebbles under your feet is a must.
Lunch in the vegan cafe. So good. Pea and kale burger 💯 winner.
Chalk. The understated lost venue. Squint and you’ll find it in Brighton.
Only a short time queuing due to the extreme temperature outside. But always meaningful.
Passer by group number
1. Is this a strip club? Who you waiting for?
Passer by number 2. Who you waiting for ….. is he the comedian?
Met an amazing lady, visiting Brighton in memory and in spirit of her late daughter. I’ll say no more, but we’re thinking of you. And she would have loved every second of the show. Her spirit lives on. Xx #forever
Show time TBC on the tickets. 8pm ish on the email. 8.35pm in real time. Packed crowd. At the front was the photographer that has always been around Sussex, shaved head and impressive hipster beard. Many times I’ve seen him. Always remember seeing him at the Lewes stopover covered in chalk dust head to toe post colour chalk battle. I found the photo!! Look out for his pictures.
General summary. Soaking it all in as this is the last one. 🥹. MM Outfit change. Long black trousers and black boots. Gone are the white socks and pumps. Well it is 2 degrees outside. Wise choice.
We got 50 mins of Musial joy. Mixed in with good banter.
:Still operating as an elite squad since the band left them in Dublin.
:What day of the week is it. We were very quiet for a Saturday night in Brighton was it because the poppers hadn’t kicked in yet.
:Tour strap lines, “do you want a line”. As in Liverpool at the tour bus a Liverpudlian came up and asked them!!! Later during the show, you know who you are, a Liverpudlian shouted “do you want a line” sing I’m in fire… you don’t ask you don’t yet. To much hilarity for Marcus who said it made his evening!!
:Some crowd feedback that they couldn’t hear him. “Well you should have come earlier”.
:MFT: roadie talk for my first tour. Rookie error . The way the guitar was tuned for The Cave, (tuned by MM) was way too high, but once you’re in you’re in right??? :You still nailed it.
:C*nt chat
:Reincarnation…. ❤️
:I will wait , Mixing it up by asking if he could stand on the bar so that the back could hear him off mic. Only to find that the ceiling wasn’t that high so opting for sitting on the bar. Always a winner.
:Marcus catching a flight to New York today.
:Signing off with see you soon. We hope so.
:lady at end asking for the mug that MM had been drinking from…. Confirmation that it was Green Tea.
A joyful evening of course over too soon. Leaving the crowd wanting more. Back out into the chilly winter winds. Anyone for a five guys? 👋. Post Tour diet starts today.
Set list:
Only Child
Dangerous Game
Awake my soul
Go in light
Better off high
The Cave
Cowboy
Reincarnation
Grace
How
I will wait

Pryzm residency 2.12.22. Vol 2.
Fog, what fog?!? Flippin cold thou!
Fond memories of the 2019 Mumford shows. Kingston doesn’t seem to have changed too much. Wilco has gone self service checkout, the iconic Red Telephone boxes are still around the corner from the venue, the car parking is still over priced, The Wetherspoons was still there and as busy as ever. (£7.95 meal deals) with Lunch in the belly we watched the men put up the set of Christmas trees. 4 understated flat trees with lights. 5/10.
Whilst queuing just the one car prang incident, and funny community police officer support lady moment. I think she thought we were all homeless! Once we established we were waiting for doors, her parting comment in a very sweet Irish accent “you enjoy your rock and roll” funny.
Pryzm, very organised doors, Through the airport security scanner and up those two flights of marble stairs. It felt smaller inside than the previous visit.
We did have a gate crasher, spotted pre show a small moving animal with a tail, let’s call it the house mouse. It was bold as well as strong and according to all reports A massive Mumford fan.
Excellent banter from the start. All three shows award winning chat. I’m going to keep the banter general as the brain is foggy as to which show!!
Highlights:
Oceania - being 16 and scoping the place from the balcony. Minesweeping the place. Wearing moccasin. Fond memories.
19 shows back to back. Having a great hardworking crew. First day off for them in 2 1/2 weeks today. All 6 of them now existing like an #elitesurvivalsquad. Only surviving on Freddos, (underrated chocolate) fifa, and tea. The longest sober stag party! Still feeling like being on his holibobs. End of term bash!
A homecoming residency. Around America for 12 weeks only touching the surface, and ending up in Kingston! Anti residency strategy.
Set two: imagine Only Child sung beautifully, with added bar staff glass chinking’ “that’s the glass recycling done for the evening” efficient use of time! His father does the recycling at home and sometimes doesn’t get it quite right, as highlighted by his wife!! They moved in during the pandemic, hence why he lives in LA!
No one was to mention the football score as they had paused the game. He would get very moody if they did.
Turns out later in the evening Germany were out the World Cup. He was delighted! Who is German in here tonight!!! Gives them the V’s laughs and night made! German karma later as the guitar was tuned badly making for an awkward tuning session.
The Cave. Played so “quietly” that he broke his first string on this tour!!! Happy days! Another win.
Two joyful crowd pleasing outings of Reincarnation, his favourite song, the family album for children was only just around the corner.
Many uses of the C*nt word. But being a good c*nt.
Three great sets containing
Only child x 3
Dangerous game x 3
Go in light x 3
The cave x 2
Awake my soul x 2
Better off high x3
Cowboy x 2
Re-incarnation x2
Grace x 2
How x 2
I will wait x 3
I’m on fire - finale only.
The crowd super respectful throughout and you could hear a pin drop.
And then it was over….. a bit of a testing drive home, I’d like to thank the large guiding light freight lorry for 10 miles of heavy fog. And the two deers that opted to eat grass vs run out across the new forest and meet their maker.
X

30.11.22
Vinilo deux Southampton
As I sit here tucked up safely in my own house nursing a red bush tea. Possibly a bit tired. What a fun day that was.
The closest Mumford (no Sons) gig ever to my hometown. What joy.
The Brook. Very much the student area of Southampton city, Portswood. Not much to entertain, just the McDonalds a plant burger and worst hot chocolate in years. Unless you are a fan of Machine Mart then this is the place for you. Car parked FOC in the roadside. Winner. And yes I had two wing mirrors and all 4 wheels post show.
The Brook was special as a student of Southampton and as a fan of the band #delays #ripgreggilbert I had high hopes and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
Inside two floors, one stage and a really great venue. Well done Vinilo for hosting. Great car park announcements. “I wonder if the owner of the white Toyota could move allowing the Tyre fitters next door to lock their gates?” If it was YOU…..
Round 1
All acoustic. Possible set list?!? Got a bit lost not necessarily in this order?!
Only Child
Dangerous game
Better off high
The Cave
Dinks song
Go in light
Cowboy
How
I will wait
So much banter I can’t remember from which set…
Set times today had be been tailored around the footy start and 1/2 times
Marcus Stopped during Better off high as he saw someone on the balcony mimicking his head “tick” and pulled them up said he can’t help it! Blew a kiss to them later! 😂
Forgetting the words in the cave, Only child was a long song, and after each verse, there’s another one. Why did he write it so long?
Loves doing this tour being back in the room with everyone. 20 gigs in 16 days. Last night was Nottingham, and he got away singing a Disney song “not in Nottingham”. Which basically is a song which isn’t a fan of Nottingham, but they seem to love it, not that bright there!! Lols. With a cheeky wink.
Really good form and lovely set.
Round two. Out the venue and in again.
Very similar set list but with added Grace and Reincarnation. Which was super cute. No dinks.
*A* star rating banter.
Ryan had won a game of fifa in the break.
Loving this tour, been feeling like he has been on his holi bobs, fucking around. His hate of silence between songs. The thoughts that run through the head whilst singing. PLAY THE LOUDEST YOU CAN ON THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR….. play the quietest. Those sort of thoughts!!
It was Ryan’s birthday in the week, (and Chris Polllards) so we sang an impromptu Happy Birthday. Then explained that Alex was previously the guitar tech and was touring with (said in a sarcastic voice) Harry Styles, but now he’s dead to us. “best birthday ever” looks at Ryan. They sent a video previously from Glasgow to Alex slating him!! Gives him the v’s!! Funny
Top right of stage, a glass window viewing pane! “Is that glass”. “You got Covid” waves!! Excited crowd all wave to the seated ladies! They look like pets in a shop window, they’ve got happy lives haven’t they…. Haven’t they?
Liking Southampton, got his haircut, they also wanted to manscape the face, but that was perfect! Had a nice snack in the Woodmill cafe. No one seemed to know this cafe.
Enjoyed the two gigs today, three tomorrow, someone shouts “ka-ching” nah mate!
I found tonight’s “How” especially moving. Too short an evening but a really special evening. Same time tomorrow?
More bands need to play The Brooks it’s ace! Go if you can.
Zzzzz’ds

Brizzle innit 22.11.22
“By any means possible” A train taking the strain today. Across two counties. Wiltshire into Avon. Bristol. Love Brizzle.
After the storms of yesterday today we got lucky with the skies, they were blue again. Whilst waiting for the train at Salisbury on a cold but sunny platform I got the step count up for the day to 3,500 before boarding. Result. And didn’t buy a hot chocolate to compensate for the cold. Joe Wicks would be proud of me.
An easy 78 mins on the train. A short walk from the station to the des res Ho e clearly the Ibis budget doesn’t stretch to T’s and L’s.
I needed chips. What better way to enjoy them than in a Wetherspoons! Living the dream. Now I had a real fan girl moment, I got right up close and personal with …….. a real life pair of Gromit and Shaun the sheep sculptures. Trip already made! #suchafan Bristol been the home of Aardman animations.
Right let’s cut to the chase. The venue. Google maps did show me what to expect. And it didn’t disappoint. WOW. An idiot could have walked past quite easily and thought it was a disused warehouse….. I mean idiot. 😉
The marble factory. ((Stone cut marble not the glass ball variety.)) Back in the day I bet this place was amazing? But right now it was opposite a building site which was once an industrial estate and even the ATS Tyre shop google maps had promised me had closed!! The only location highlight was a Vegan Cafe called Future in the railway arches which sold the best donuts in town. £10 for 3 well spent.
#homersimpsoneatyourheartout
Met the very lovely Evie in the queue. from Wales…… saw Marcus at Cardiff last night so was still buzzing. Queue time passed quickly.
Motion as I’m going to give it its proper name (the marble factory) is a night club and hanger warehouse. It was pretty cool inside capacity around 1200. All standing but some balcony standing. A real hidden gem.
Monica was back. She gave a very honest set against all the odds. She was so funny. I think one too many strepsils, lemsips, paracetamols may have been taken! There was so much rambling it was fun to watch. Great work Monica. You pulled it off.
To the show.
Ooooooooh new shirt. Tweed shirt and are they called “baggies” where is seeing bees 🐝 Patrick Grant when you need him!
Opening with Awake my soul, the cave.
Banter:
Came in the form of Football.
Last nights gig in Wales not being able to announce the score as 2 blokes had “saved” the game to watch later!!
I would appear that we had “Miss Wales” in the audience as at various times ramblings were shouted! And Marcus joked at the end that for “I will wait “ Miss Wales needed to keep quiet.
Every song is about footy…
From the balcony gods came a very sweet “shout” of “it’s coming home”!!
Marcus even joked that
“Exeter being a shit show” quiet literally!! He recapped how he got a stripping down about his use of bad potty mouth language from a friends dad. Who questioned the need of the word FUCK? It’s only a good job he didn’t get carried away with “c*nt”.
Post shows, Taylor Mackall ace musician, comments about the performance of Only Child most nights and critiques the 50% of cords Marcus gets right during the average performance of only child! Harsh.
Sadly we didn’t get to see the wonderful Monica onstage for Go in Light, as he insisted she gets well for her main performance. As she isn’t in TIP TOP form!!
After the fake end of show, and encore, another fab rendition of Cowboy, with added burp slurp! Apparently within the tea cup was tonic water most nights, but tonight it’s tea but has the same effect.
Then off piste from the set list we were in for a treat. 6 mins of bliss. Marcus’s favourite song “not dark yet” by the one and only Bob Dylan. Loved this. What a real treat. At the end the slight boast that the next one was written with Bob, although he wasn’t actually there!! WIGMHOY.
Too soon it was off mic I will wait. The crowd very respectful. Miss Wales did wales proud.
I waved a sad goodbye to band as they won’t be with Marcus for leg 3 in stores next week. Going to miss them they are so tight. Marcus’s voice just gets better and better each night. Vs mine which can barely speak atm without coughing!!! What a total joy these dates have been. Over too soon.
Today. Enjoying life with a walking tour of Banksy street art and a trip on the S S Great Britain in the dry dock. Well worth a trip, fascinating engineering and fantastic recreation of sea travels circa 1840s. What a visionary Isambard Kingdom Brundel was. And a great Ambassador of the top hat.

Exeter GREAT Hall 20.11.22
Midnight ramblings are probably not the best, but I’ll give it a go. Still buzzing.
The local gig. So local that an off piste trip to the seaside was on the cards before I got to Exeter. Sidmouth. Very sweet little South Devon seaside town. Surprisingly busy for a Sunday in November. £2 an 1 hrs to park. I know!!!! The weather was glorious. I do love to be beside the seaside. The roads from Dorset to Devon are drop dead gorgeous on a clear crisp winters day. Spectacular views across the two counties. ((Not so good driving back with 3 dimmed bulbs gone!!)) trip to the garage later today.
Anyway, Exeter Great Hall by goggle Maps? Surely that can’t have been the ONLY route in?!!! I mean I’m fond of a wee scenic route but blimey, I saw /felt all the 20mph speed humps Exeter has on offer!
Exeter Great Hall is within the university complex. A very smart set up. Took me right back to using the my Uni’s library’s PC with a floppy disc!! ((Ask your parents))
You see, this is the joy of queuing, I met three lovely Mumford fans, Holly, Adam and Renee. It was Renee’s first ever gig what a way to start and Adams’s first time seeing Mumford. The excitement was palpable. As were the tins of cider. 🙃.
The news broke that Monica was poorly and would be unable to open for Marcus tonight, and that #tsnsotck would be in the building. The question on my mind was where do you get wig in Exeter on a Sunday evening?
Clearly the answer was you can’t!!
Marcus came onstage as his own support just after 2032hrs.
Treated us to a bit more banter and some classic M&S.
Main tales;
Marcus said Monica was not feeling very well and sent him all our love, she’s not dead.
Exeter this morning he was on his skateboard heading to a coffee shop meeting his Mum and dad, when he got bitten on the leg by a greyhound! He was angry at first and then found it funny.
He had toured 10 weeks in the states, saying to was too soon into is solo career to do a residency in Vegas…. And was delighted to be home. He had insisted that Exeter was in the schedule to please his mum, and that this venue sold out first! Go Exeter.
What can you say about the music. The more you see and hear the more you want. So loud tonight great acoustics in the room. It was quite a deep room, 1700 capacity I think. Often used as a lecture theatre or graduation ceremony venue.
Lots of bounce in the room, lots of love. Really loving better off high and dangerous games tonight, really great vibes . A shame Monica wasn’t around for go in light but still beautiful. Get well soon Monica.
Lovers eyes, awake my soul, guiding light, the cave, fare thee well. Full self titled and ending on the basement tapes - with a finale of off mic I will wait.
More chat about the dog bite but the Exeter crowd was worth it! Even if he woke up with rabies tomorrow.
He has bought the band all England football T-shirts as a thank you. But the footie is going to be a shit show!
And then it was all over.
Wiggled the car out of Exeter, drove home on full beam mostly. The roads were blissfully quiet.
Quite the Sunday, well worth missing the antiques roadshow. 😉

Fare thee well 16.11.22
As I’ve quoted before and I think I will roll it out for a wee while, where do I begin.
No hardcore CAAMP fans in tents outside early queuing for tomorrows show! I mean absolute shocker.
We’d like to thank the local catering company for leaving their cardboard boxes outside for making the stone marble steps so much more hospitable to sit on!! I mean what’s not to love about 3 layers OF padding to put some bounce into the day.
Night two at Shepherd’s Bush empire. Still soaking it all in from last night. Here we are again. Another international line up of queuers, Uk, the states, fresh from Florida and Denmark. A colder day perhaps or is that #tiredness
A very causal day, I can highly recommend the cheese and tomato sour dough toastie from the green cafe KAVE next to the venue, and the black bean beef rice dish from the Noodle bar. Both very tasty. 9/10 for sure.
Some rain and a bit chilly but all good.
Monica Martin and Jake Sherman opened again, Monica in outfit number two tonight and hair down. Looked amazing loved the white cowboy boots. Boot envy.
She complimented the crowd on being quiet 🤫 and then I thought the mumbling got louder! Bugger. She did well. Another get set.
Showtime. Personally feeling more looser and relaxed about what was to come, I also felt Marcus felt a little less pressure than night 1. Said he loved this venue and loved being H.O.M.E
Never sure what a London crowd will bring on a Wednesday night but they were very appreciative and respectful… full of love.
You could have knocked us all down with a feather when the opener was Lovers Eyes 👀. What a treat. Second time playing on this tour. Evening made already!
Solo The cave and then the band joined Marcus on stage.
Let the album begin:
Banter:
Marcus stated he didn’t like silence between song changes so does some “chat”. Recalls a time from the US tour when he used the C*nt word 13 times at a show and then realised a 6 year old was in the audience. You can use the C*nt word much easier in the Uk apparently. It’s like f*ck was 20 years ago!! Much more open to it.
Mixing it up from the set list after Better off High the band leaves and we get Dinks Song. This went down very well. What a treat.
Marcus said the band were delighted to be experiencing all London had to offer…. Rain cold dark grey days etc but Mason, stage left was embracing the real heart of London and went to the Savoy!! A quick straw poll of how many of the audience had been there and Marcus proved his point!!
What a joy Go in light is with Monica. There vocals are so angelic together. You just want it to go on longer.
Little bit of banter with a lady down the front, Marcus thinking there as another medical emergency, however her fiend only wanted to embarrass her and she only wanted to say hello as he met her in 2015 or something!!
A lot of friends and family in the house tonight as it was a coming home London show. #jasonSudeikis
There are no words still for the beauty of Stonecatcher and How. Just beautiful.
Back on with Cowboy and who doesn’t love a Taylor Swift song, he has a great cowboy twang.
Ending with
WIGMHOY - epic
Kansas City - epic
Timshel dropped
I will wait unplugged. Always #special
Post show wanderings in the rain, we didn’t chance the Chicken 126 a second time. Golden Arches all the way. On a wet and windy Wednesday night it’s mad to see how busy it was. 007 all the way. Cold McPlant has always been a favourite.
It’s over too soon goodbyes to our American buddies. Safe travels home. Always a pleasure. Until #lemons.

Where do I begin….London 15.11.22
It’s been over three years! I know three years since I was last able to bore you, sorry able to blog to you, about the beloved Mumford & Sons.
So much has changed in the world and this tour to me will be a good scientific experiment as to how the rest of life continues. No pressure Mr Marcus. Let the science begin of how many shows can you go to before you catch Covid? I do like a good test. Answers by 3rd December.
Day 1. #Austeritytour
I’ve gone all budget budget budget. What with the cost of trains and the never ending strikes the decision was made to keep it all things slow and steady. Coach for the win! Yes, it did get me here, but (possibly) never again !!! In the dark pissing rain at 0530 I left home. And after another 5 nauseous green face 🤢 mind numbing hours I made it to London. Felt like I could have walked it faster!! But then again….. maybe not.
London in the rain. Such a romantic idea….. except when dragging a wheelie suitcase.
The venue. Shepherds Bush Empire. Fond memories of seeing the lads back in 2010 here for their 2 night residency. Happy days. When cruising past the venue towards the hotel I spotted the visual feast of a pop up red tent and duvets. Saying hello as I passed there was no response. It turns out that Louis Tomlinson #youdontthinkyourebeautful and other hits was playing on Friday night, 4 days away, and these girls had been queuing since Sunday, day and night, only for the concert to be rescheduled!!! Can you imagine the heart ache. Poor girls. They apparently left in tears along with their duvets.
Joined for the day by the America legends, the day passed by very quickly. The rain had stopped and thank goodness for the overhang of the building a complete lifesaver. We met Andy the best dad. His daughter is the Mumford fan and she had been struck down by flu, but being a gig goer he decided to go it alone. Waves to Andy! 207 Hays -by - pass all the way!! Where was Hays and why are there so many buses going that way?!?! It’s amazing how much music history you can share with someone!
Doors to green, and goodness me how I missed this venue. What a room. It felt smaller or have I just got bigger? Don’t answer that.
Monica Martin and Jake Shearman were the opening act. Monica has an amazing voice and entertained us with a laid back jazzy blues set full of heart ache… but in a good way!!
Showtime.
To say I’d been looking forward to this moment is the understatement of the year.
Marcus opens up on his own. No band. Stating he made a solo album but with the most help and friends that he has ever made a record with. Good words.
Standing along with just a guitar we basked in the joy of Awake my Soul and The Cave.
Cannibal. Wow. When the drums kicked in by Griff it took the song to another level. The energy was intense. Tense moment in the room there was what we all thought to be some cheering during this song but it turned out to be a medical emergency. The house lights come up, the music stopped and security leapt in.
Possibly a difficult time to continue, if there was ever an appropriate moment to restart a song Marcus bashes out “Help me know how to begin again”. And we were back. The unwell crowd member was being treated out of the room by medics. Hopefully all well.
Highlights:
Amazing vocals and live band.
Hearing Self Titled live in its entirety. The emotion and power. I loved it and basked in all the heart and soul like a sponge soaking it all up.
Three years 3 months had been too long.
Monica joined Marcus on stage for go in light.
Finishing with HOW left me speechless. One of the crowd shouted “well done Marcus” a short but very heartfelt moment.
The encore a musical and visual feast. Loving these basement tapes songs being in the mix. I felt more relaxed looser to enjoy the moments. WIGMHOY was extra special.
Finishing off with the off mic (you could hear a pin drop) moment of I will wait at the front of the stage. Oh happy days.
Post show feast at the Chicken 126 “cash only” premises. First chicken in a bun with fries also in 3 years. Three meals with drinks all for under £15.00 what could go wrong. It’s also worth mentioning that the Green Green Grass, blue blue sky crooner George Ezra casually strolled past us carrying a tote bag whilst we surveyed the menu of Chicken 126 ….. he opted not to risk the set meal. Turns out he was also at the gig….. a man of exquisite taste.
Round two tonight
Love Sister C

I came all the way to Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Cardiff 10.6.19
Summary of events from podworld. Aka the most basic pod hotel room in Cardiff. Everything you need from a hotel apart from space and a window that you can open, and a view! Still it’s #convenient and #cheap
Today’s go to destination was Cardiff Castle. Situated in the heart of the city. A heart beat away from the venue.
The castle is a little bit of a fraud but full of history none the less. Basically it has been redesigned and restored more times than I have had a comfy sofa to sit on this last year. I blame capability brown. Lord Bute is our hero thou.
Today as it’s The Duke of Edinburgh’s birthday there was the added extra treat of a military band with added goat and a pony and 21 gun salute. Good stuff.
To the venue for the last delta queue and my last Vegan sausage roll... 🤣. Around 3.30pm the heavens opened really hard. We had shelter but some poor queuers with no sign of a wet weather coat or even poncho got completely soaked to the skin. That’s dedication isn’t it. I hope you have a nice warm bath as I type. One poor fella I really did feel for him..... but I mean Wales.... in June surely it was a given that it would rain!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cardiff Motorpoint Arena is a small venue around 5,000. The front of stage set up. Only seats circumventing the floor. Which made for many standing GA vibes.
Tumblr media
We are Villagers did another great set. It’s hard when the mumbling of the crowd is quite prolific. But they did well. Fond goodbyes to them.
Showtime. The crowd seemed a little slow to start off with, but then they really got into it. And we had a party. The chaps seemed really up for a party. Marcus has lots of mini banter breaks. Life long ambition to play darts in a pub near the castle fulfilled today! Near the millennium stadium (insert the new name of the stadium here). And a pint of “insert beer name here”. Which made the crowd boooh a little and Marcus said what’s wrong with that beer!
Marcus seemed to drop the “woman” at the start of Woman..... And spoke the word quieter I thought. But it was jolly good.
Rose of Sharon we had a party and a dance. With the crowd giving us ample room to rock out.
Ben is from Wales and Marcus joked that it was all his family sat down in the teared seating! Asking half way though if they were comfy and could he get them anything!
Ben tired to announce that it was the last UK show for a while, But Marcus miss heard whilst phaffing around and joked that it was their last show ever ......and said goodnight. Both had a camp hands on hips stance for this exchange! I missed this in film!
Awake my soul - you’re welsh you can sing louder!
B stage in the mini front stage. Marcus Telling the crowd he believed in the Welsh, and that having done this for a while, he knew they could shut up for the acoustic set, a heckle of “white Blank Page” “were gonna do that love”. Some mumbling but generally good and into the one and only #f💕rever
Marcus thanked the crew “give it up for the crew” for all their hard work and big round of applause. “I mean some of them are real dicks, but it’s like family thou!!”
Some people around lacked bounce but I think we made up for them! Stomping our way through pretty much every song bar the b stage.
Chris came down after the set and handed out two sets of drum sticks to two small girls. Very cute.
As Monday nights go. I’d say it was better than average. Delta tour UK you have been FAB. With a love too deep for words.x

Go APE. 1.6.19
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, what a day! 27 degrees in London Town.
Tumblr media
With the top logistical team on hand to work out how it is physically safe legal and possible to leave DDD on a Friday night and arrive in Liverpool Sunday evening pre show, via London. Car 🚗 was the chosen method of transport for this final delta phase tour leg. Parked (abandoned) in Shepherd’s Bush and a tube ride to the hotel on Friday night. Let the games begin.
Saturday morning. Arrival at the closest tube station Mile End. There was indeed a ‘Mile’ End to walk to the outer entrance of Victoria Park.
First excitement of the day was purchasing food (McDonalds) from Uber Eats, let’s hope number 354 Old Ford Road didn’t mind me hijacking their address! On the ‘rate my food’ app we gave the five thumbs rating 👍👍👍👍👍 for hotness delivery and all round service. It was indeed the filth on a *plate we needed to survive the day. *plate not included. Nor napkins.
We meet a lovely new couple, Seth and Linda all the way from New Jersey. Flying in for the gig and anniversary weekend! Waves hello to both. A sneaky croissant 🥐 consumed and we were ready to rumble.
The gate time was 1pm the lanes in snaked about 1/2 mile. Tickets scanned body wanded and I was in. Everyone seemed to have a different security experience. Mine was easy others less so.... no outside food allowed inside the park. Security questioned the validity of a tube of factor 50 sunscreen with the need to squeeze some out to validate that it was not food! And I had to pass the sniffer dog twice once on the right side but that was wrong, so had to come in from the left! But the good news was we got the Bourbon biscuits and haribo sweets in. Result. As we walked and not ran towards East Stage there was not a throng of us, just a few trickling through.
Stage set up with the runway style. Barrier spot secured we all set up camp for the day. It was such a relaxed day. Toilet breaks, American Express upgrade wrist bands, 99 Mr Whippy, water from security staff, and Tango all purchased. It was a hot and dusty day. Hay fever aplenty for some. *sneeze*
At 1.45, Mosa Wild opens up the day: great band. And a great 👍 cover of ‘the whole of the moon’.
It was like a flash back to Australia as next was GRETTA RAY and band. Yes, you’ve guessed it, sporting a lacey, off the shoulder red top with cropped flared jeans (newly purchased that day, and Greta commented ‘hard to sit in’! ). Gretta and new band sound great. I should point out that the crowd was still on the light side...... still good access to all amenities!
Tamino Amir brought a different sound to the afternoon. Personally I liked it, others less so. I found the Egyptian style chanting relaxing and rather haunting. The keyboard player borrowed my look for the show.... the problem was the drum was so loud it vibrated down to the field (to the core of the earth in-fact) and even the confetti on the floor was in ear pain.
Post Tamino we had to seek out an emergency round of slush puppies. E numbers and coolness in a plastic cup personified! Lifesavers. Shame about the sturdiness of the paper straw. FYI don’t go for strawberry 🍓! Stick with “raspberry”. Blue is best.
Jade Bird was the up beat kinda gal we needed. Clearly she missed the memo on the weather, wearing a baby blue two piece suit. Belting out some great tunes and loving every minute of it. There was a good crowd for Jade and lots of fans.
Has anyone seen the Vaccines!? They brought it to the park. The party was really warming up. Justin prowling the stage like the true front man he is. They have some anthems. It was during this performance that a chant of ‘ooooh Jeremy Corbynn!’ started behind us, as we turn around there was this 60 something bloke up on the shoulders of someone, virtually crowd surfing! Funny as! His appearance was akin to the Labour Party leader hence the chanting! Funny. Security quickly beckoned him down!
Ok now brace yourself and batten down the hatches. It’s Dizzee Rascal time. By now the pit was 50% fuller of security.... be prepared. Dizzee’s dj was setting up with large screen backdrop for visual effects. Screen number 2.7 clearly giving issues! Well. What a party 🥳 Dizzee knows how to throw it! We did indeed dance and throw some serious moves. It was a little “bonkers” with some serious moshing happening. A few drinks flying around. But security had it all covered. I have to say I loved it. Not really my scene but what a great 60 mins. Never seen so many security staff ‘secretly’ videoing Dizzee during the set!!
The madness ebbed away after Dizzee and normality resumed. All was well.
And we’ve made it to showtime!!!!! Having sneaked a look at a security list we could see Guiding Light was the opener, so no 42, despite the runway.
As the sun set the show starts! A feel-good vibe from the start. Marcus leapt from the amp down along the runway for the end of Guiding light. The chaps soon followed for LLM, straight into the Cave.
Believe had pyro action. And many lights around the crowd quite a spectacle. Ditmas run, Marcus helped out a female member of the audience who either got caught up in the action or felt faint.
Lots of signs, lots of wings, some of them 🦇 bat wings.
Beloved was played with The Staves and sounded particularly emotional. What a sweet sound.
B stage at the end of the runway. Marcus saying they hadn’t done a quiet B stage at a festival before, (memories of Hyde Park?!) Wild Heart, White Blank into Forever, joined by Gretta.
Picture you and Darkness Visible were dropped from the setlist and the pyro! I guess to keep the pace up.
Woman! Seems to be staying in the set. One comment, the red stage lights make it really hard to satisfactorily video!
Rose of Sharon! We loved it. They band looked like they were having a blast playing it. Marcus dancing and spinning and smiling away. It was special.
Marcus saying cover your ears if you don’t want to know the football result.....Liverpool won 2 nil! We have mixed emotions about this news...but that’s so tomorrow.
‘Friends’ popped back into the setlist to round off the night with Gretta, Jade, Leanne Lehavas, The Staves, some vaccines, Dermot Kennedy all joining in the singsong! Such a warm ending to a FAB day!
After a long day, what we really needed was a long sit down on a comfy sofa. What we got was a 1 and a half hours walk to the tube station one stop down from Mile End. Mike End was rammed and the queue was epically long. And not a fake merch seller in sight.
We bid a fond farewell to Seth and Linda. Thanks for your company and kindness. See you again sometime somewhere on the road (hopefully soon). What an epic day!

Liverpool 2.6.19. You’ll never walk alone
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyone for a 6.15 am tube from central London to Shepherd’s Bush? On a Sunday! Liverpool bound by 7.15am. The pressure was on. Will we make it to the city prior to the midday traffic curfew due to the LFC winners parade. . . . ? Our in car entertainment was mostly provided by spot the Eddie Stobart lorry *bonkers* we salute you. Funny.
Traffic flowed well: exiting London, spotting one of my favourite restaurant names.... Hoo Hing. And then ‘The Housewives kitchen’ as we enter Liverpool ... closed. One comfort break along the way and our wagon rolls into Albert Dock for 11.48. 12 mins to spare!
The city was already busy. Roads closed off ready for the parade. Some hard core fans already standing along the barricades to get a front row view.
Many knock off flags and fake merch sellers lining the streets. Two flags in the bag, haggled down in price due to multiple purchases! And a Winners t shirt. Fruit of the loom! Quality. Many winners cup helium balloons 🎈🎈 🎈 on sale. £5 to you today! One woman with so many it’s amazing her feet were still on the ground.
We walked around Albert Dock for some lunch. Fond memories of seeing the dock as the back drop of This Morning.... sadly no Fred’s weather map any more!!!! I’m liking Liverpool.
It was a windy day in the city. Alongside the Mersey it was incredibly windy. Yesterday had been so warm and today so cold! It was all we could do to see with the windy conditions and wayward hair!
Unsurprisingly the venue was really quiet as 100 metres away 500,000 people were waiting for the parade!
It was a fine line whether to stand out of the wind in a corner by the venue, but this corner had an air of Liverpool sewage works.....or freeze to death! We mixed and matched!
The security team at the venue were gutted, to say the least, that they couldn’t watch the parade. I know their pain.
No VIP host. We missed Emma from Europe.
As we sat inside the venue slowly defrosting, my heart did go out to the woman outside who was basically dressed in a vest and the mini-est shorts, bare legs and arms waitingfor GA entry!!!! Bonkers.
We are Villagers. I rather liked them. Even though I was hitting the wall of exhaustion, my spirit did not wain. So very different from GOY and Dave. A laid back set. I did feel for the other side of the stage though, as Conor only sang to our side. Perhaps he didn’t get the memo of “in the round”. A very classy sound. And as Cillian Murphy has included Villagers on his 6 music show last week. I felt a bond with them.
Mumford time ! Yay. How would it go.... would exhaustion take over or would the excitement of the weekend rule. WOW! The latter.
What a gig. I loved it. It had everything. Bounce, soul, emotion, tears. The power of music.
Setlist similar to APE. Conor from Villagers joined them for I will wait! I think.
Marcus of course could not resist talking about the football. Although he did manage to get 30 mins into the set before mentioning it!
He took a poll on who was an Everton Fan, who was a Spurs fan and who was a Wimbledon fan!! Saying he had been out to the parade and how Ted’s tech was a lifelong Liverpool supporter and was gutted that he couldn’t watch the game yesterday.
Rose of Sharon, Woman, Slip Away.... some of the highlights. Picture you and Darkness Visible back in with possible new lights and pyros. Awake my soul really touching the emotional spot.
Ditmas run, Marcus made it to the middle tier back of the Arena. With a pint of Wine being spilt on him!
The crowd were really up for a good time. What a weekend for Liverpool, winning the champions league, homecoming parade and Mumford & Sons. What a city. What a time to be alive. Never give up.
As we left the arena “you’ll never walk alone” was blasted out. The entire arena sang it back. It was a real moment. A very special moment. Walk on. Walk on. With hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone. You’ll never walk alone. 😢💕😍. Wipes away tear. Thanks Liverpool x

Sheffield. 4th June 2019. Disco 2000.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wow what a great city Liverpool is. We had much funny exploring. I don’t know if you know but a band called “The Beatles” came from Liverpool. There were many related places of interest. I think we got the main contenders in the bag! Along with many other merch items!
Even managed to squeeze in a ferry cross the Mersey.
The travelling sisterhood made it across from Liverpool safely, with three stow away passengers in the car 🚗. #botr Due to adverse road traffic conditions we managed to avoid main motorways and go across country. Woodhead Pass was really pretty. Many rolling hills, sheep (cows) and little traffic. A beautiful journey.
The Sheffield Fly DS Arena is locate on the outskirts of Sheffield. As per the 2015 tour still next door to (That’s) “Centertainment”. With little else around. (Google’s two-for-one voucher) Dinner sorted.
Gig day we geocached around Centertainment. You haven’t experienced a town without use of a different form of transport.......anyone for a Supertram to Meadowhall? (Sheffield’s premier shopping experience) (Three stops) £3 💰 return - cheap at half the price! All I bought was a Greggs Vegan sausage roll (scientific research) and caramel custard donut (non vegan) (Doooh). Long live the tour diet.
Queue life. Easy doors. No queuing til after 3pm by order of Sheffield Fly DSA, result. What time do you think the rain started? 3.01pm. We are Joined by a lovely couple from Huddersfield, Amanda and Rory. Rory being the Mumford fan and Amanda being the ‘ok let’s go’ partner. The original November show was on Rory’s birthday so he was obviously “gutted” by the postponement. But he was very happy today. Emergency Poundland ponchos now being sported we all queued under Rory’s adequate golfing umbrella! Thanks!
Doors! All smooth. Showtime. We are Villagers, no flamingo shirt for Conor, but another relaxing set. Still hasn’t read the memo about playing in the round. . . . .
Mumford! Same set as Liverpool. I thought Marcus was struggling a little vocally during the second half? But still belted them out. Good feel in the room. But a lot of the crowd remaining seated for the majority of the set as far as I could see.
Not much banter, just chat with the lady who shouted “feel the tide” just before they started the acoustic section. Think she also had a banner with Feel the Tide on it, obviously keen!!! Marcus was shocked someone knew that one. And said he couldn’t remember how to play it! Maybe next time. They shouted again! “This is the longest audience chat I’ve had!” He said if you have a drunk friend put your arm on their shoulder to shut them up! After the quiet songs Marcus said “You’ve got some good friends Sheffield”.
I spotted Barney @robinjackson air drumming! He was really going for it during lover of the light! Sadly no 42 played, but we saw Barney’s sign!! We did get Rose of Sharon, Picture you/Darkness Visible and Woman. Rose of Sharon such a choon.
Ditmas run was more of a marathon, with a big climbing effort by Marcus and security to access level one, and a high drop down. Still impressed by Marcus’s level of fitness. How does he regain composure so quickly for Slip away? Another choon.
All too soon it was over. It was a fun night.
Managed to purchased another programme from the merch stall as it had a complimentary black and white A4 Sheffield tour poster..... clearly trying to shift those end of tour programmes!!
A rain free walk back to the hotel, I was very pleased not to be driving anywhere as the queue to get out of the arena car park looked “challenging”.
Until Manchester.....

Melbourne first night....
Melbourne
The seated gigs. No pressure no queues. Most strange!
Having nothing to do in the city we decided to do something that we will remember for life. Anyone for a tattoo?
After researching the options we picked our parlour. They were really helpful and sweet. Ollie was our artist in residence, originally from Auckland but moved to Melbourne for the work. The design has been on the table for a good few months. With a couple of personal adaptations.
A Mumford fridge magnet! 😂😂😂 but a high end designed one.
Two hours later and we had done it!
Today it’s looking good..... full results in two weeks. Something to remember the Delta tour NZ & Oz by!
I’m thinking this is a tour all about how many chemists we can visit. I think it’s been at least one per city. I can’t believe you can purchase a packet of 100 paracetamols off the shelf! This would be unheard of in the uk.
Back to the reason we are all here. Sidney Myer Music Bowl. An outdoor partially covered venue. Located in the heart of the city.
Undercover at the front a seated area for around 2000 and behind the seats on the hill is the lawn area around 10,000 people I guess?
It’s another sunny day. And we join the queue into the bowl. A strange feeling not being there for doors! The knowledge that there is no pressure is great! Water bottle topped up, loo stop in the bag and we find our seats.
Melbourne is Gretta Ray’s home town. She had a different full band from Sydney Enmore. She came on the stage dancing like a new woman from the first time we saw her in Brisbane. FYI tonight sporting a 5th new off the shoulder number and velvet flared trousers. She was a new freer woman, mostly no guitar around her neck and able to bop and dance and throw some moves for her entire set. Really enjoyable and she clearly loved it.
Michael Kiwunaka and band.... another new outfit and different set list.
Showtime!
Strong setlist similar to Sydney Enmore. Opening with Delta! No confetti, I suspect due to park rules.
Holland Road and Babel now seems to have firm slots, and always so good to hear.
Lover of the light back in the mix.
Guiding light into Tompkins dropping If I say. Team chat to drop If I say. Quick banjo guitar changes.
Believe, the pyros were back. The crowd’s phone lights looked pretty special in the open air and lawn.
A smooth segway into white blank page, the slowed down version with added fiddle, mixing into Forever, with Gretta returning for her part.
Ditmas, Marcus made it to the back of the seated area, front of the lawn section. Conquering all the steps at speed on the return.
Pyros for Darkness Visible.
B stage. The chaps all ran past the end aisle to the back of the seated area, small space before the lawn area. Sang three songs around the one mic, Timshel, Cold Arms and an unexpected Awake, with Marcus adding you can join in for Awake. Banter. Marcus asking the crowd if they can hear ok at the back. With his retort of “i don’t know what we would do if you couldn’t hear...you should not have been so late Mother Fuckers!”
They went to the Australian open tennis. Marcus saying it’s no Wimbledon, we can say this because we’re from Wimbledon. Marcus shouting “make them hear this in the Rod Laver arena” during The Cave.
Rocking out from the seats with a different perspective was a good thing and most enjoyable. We could watch a family mum, dad and two daughters have the time of their life. How one of the daughters could bounce so high in bare feet at the barrier still amazes me. They had the best of times, knowing every word.
On exiting the park we stumbled across a bloke selling fake merch t shirts, mixing up the black hoodie back print on the front with Australian tour dates on the back. A snip at just $10! It will make me laugh on a cold grey UK February day. If it lasts more than one wash 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.
A good evening.
