Not exclusive to Aventurine, but I also just came from Astarion posts and this was also a thing. It's not being against criticism, it's the fact that some people go out of their way to insert themselves in a thread of celebrating people to bring attention to how much they don't like their topic when it's far from harmful.

I just want to add that this is neither a "cishet men just fucking suck" post nor do I agree with that view (just felt the need to say that disclaimer because someone reblogged it with that tag).
I do agree with the part that there are unsightly complaints about his orientation, though. The line of him being a "gay bottom stereotype" is based on people complaining that he's either that or is "just labeled pan" even though he's shown to be capable of attraction regardless of the player's sex and gender. He's a romanceable flamboyant dandy.
On the topic of him being a "bottom", I've read some takes that he just tops because of trauma; but there are scenes that suggest that isn't the case (it seems to depend on his lover's body type and his mood), especially the graveyard scene when he's most upfront and honest about his feelings. Don't even get me started on "Astarion isn't romantic" argument.

Many people mistook them for roses due to being red and surrounded by thorns, but upon inspecting the petal shapes, they're poppies. They really suit Princess in various symbolic ways, like death, for instance~
i cant see if youve answered this before, but. the flowers in the thorn route, are they any specific flowers or just random red flowers? asking because they look like poppies but im probably mistaken.

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard
Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.
Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.
Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.
Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.
SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.
SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.
Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.
Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.
Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.
Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.
Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

Hi! Me n some pals have been going through Slay the Princess, and on my own I've been playing through Scarlet Hollow. The writing is insanely gripping and I'm having a super fun time with both!
I was just wondering- how do you feel about other creators, specifically of visual novels, making use of your "Explore" mechanics? I want to create my own visual novels, and really enjoy the Explore feature and how it's utilized, but don't want to be ripping off a unique part of your games. Thanks!
I don't think mechanics like that should be intellectual property. Hell, (Explore) is just a reworked/expanded "Investigate" from the Mass Effect dialogue wheel where the options are made to not feel extraneous to the story and roleplaying.
Characters, settings, actual code and writing and assets, yeah. Those are ours.
But basic structural mechanics? I think studios that aggressively sit on those hold the entire art form back.
The Nemesis System in Shadow of Mordor was a really interesting approach to creating emergent storytelling, but Warner Brothers patented it and now nobody gets to explore other uses of that system. They're not even using the patent. Just introduced an entirely new way to think about game design and then stopped anyone else from ever using it.
I do think that when you borrow a mechanic from something you should put some additional effort into finding a way to make it your own, since otherwise you run the risk of tracing the surface but missing out on the *why.* And when you miss out on the *why,* things tend to fall a little flat.
If you find a way to make something your own, it becomes intertwined with your creative process. It informs and is informed by your writing decisions, instead of sitting as a garnish.

Imagining a No-Sex Option in First Night w/ Astarion Without Dropping His Romance Arc
I'm imagining an option in your first night with Astarion where it's possible to reject sex w/o dropping his romance path altogether. You can as Origin Karlach, but that's due to her infernal heart. Some players aren't into sex so fast either.
Players have their own reasons as well, not only because of Astarion, to say the least. Romancing as Karlach has her and Astarion just talking through the night and, while he was initially frustrated that his routine isn't working, seems relieved after and apologized.
"Just do it, it's just a game." I'm aware. I'm also aware that it's intended that the writers didn't want to treat sex as the "ultimate reward" in companion romance arcs here. It's okay for people to imagine alternate scenarios. Besides, it won't be thematically out-of-place.
Again, this is just in the realm of my imagination since there's no option to do so as Tav/Durge. I'm not banging on Larian's doors to make it happen (plus, there are still bugs to iron out and no official mod support), but I do admit that I would find that very nice. I think it'd be swell talking about embroidery, taste in clothes, hobbies- just stuff to get to know each other a little more, kinda like what you do with Stella in Scarlet Hollow, not only as a start to show the importance of non-sexual intimacy, but just general stuff to get to know your character and Astarion too.

Oh, I've seen those posts being against romantic Astarion (even though he does have a lot of romantic moments in the game).
Here, have some pics of him being romantic:
I also saw people snarkily say his definition of romance is sleeping with you on top of his grave, but they missed the part when he pours his feelings out and confesses how he's been faring. Also, idk if they ever know what "lovemaking" means or ever experienced it, but sexual intimacy can be romantic too, you know? I forgot to mention that a vampire confessing his love to you on top of his grave is very Mary Shelley.
Yeah, he says he hates flowers, but this is said by a gaudy fop who likes making his own perfume and embroidery. He also likes drow aesthetics. He assumed at first that being a "better person" just means "petting bunnies" and stuff like that, but post-Cazador, he realizes that he likes and does sappy things too. Even if he still hates flowers by the end, he's still the type to say that it's cute of you to lay a symbolic flower in front of his tombstone.
There are other moments that I didn't include, but not without going through another round of digging and screenshotting. Idk, maybe go reblog w/ your own screenshots of Astarion being romantic. A lot of it is very sweet and touching.

Long post in coming…
Initially started this with the feeling of spite because some fools on Twitter said he can’t be romantic and proceeded to dog pile on someone’s harmless headcanon of Astarion giving Tav a bouquet, saying that it’s better suited for Wyll.
But along the way, I started processing my own feelings and why I fell for Astarion in the first place. He was relatable for me as a survivor and as such, it’s incredibly limiting to be labeled as “you can’t be this or that”. We are capable of being romantic. We can also be mean and sarcastic and sassy. But we are all also capable of growth and change.
And Wyll is a fantastic character. If Astarion gives you a bouquet, Wyll Ravengard will take you to a field of flowers on top of a hill while serenading you. There’s no need to pit them against each other by shoving one trait to another. It’s not an erasure of Wyll’s charms and personality and neither is it racist (bc they’re accusing others of putting a black guy’s trait to a white guy like,,, that’s too much of a reach but ok)
And the real Wyll Ravengard wouldn’t even hesitate to help Astarion buy a bouquet for Tav. He’d be so excited and he’d give tips and tricks to Astarion about setting up romantic dates. He’s just that much of a nice guy and I’d love to see more of their friendship.
