Tumblr’s tagging system got a bit wonky. As a result, our new site tag is #rpmagica. All of our posts have been changed to reflect that, and all future content will have the updated tag.
Thank you for your understanding.

Our next round of site previews are going to be plot-focused. There will be other previews for the graphics and coding and dimensions as well as introductions in later previews, but I thought it would be best to do plot so that you can get a feel for the world of Magica.
The circus arrives without warning, without announcement. It arrives without invitation, simply appearing in a splendor of black and white and grey and red tents fluttering in the wind like strange flowers that suddenly erupted out of an empty city square or town field. Nobody knows how the circus arrives, and that’s part of the hook and lure.
Dusk takes over for the day, torches are lit, and spectators of all ages line up to purchase that single black ticket tinged with red lettering that provides them admission to the spectacle.
The gates open as soon as the last sliver of daylight slips under the horizon, and everyone is too busy trying to clamber in to notice that nobody pulled the heavy wrought iron gate open to begin with. Nobody lit the various lanterns hanging from trees and posts, or pressed any switches to cause the overhead strings of lights to pop on with a hiss of buzzing white phosphorous.
Such tiny mysteries are trivial compared to the draw of what hides behind tent flap number one, or the scent of caramel and cocoa and popcorn drifting among the wind. There are smaller performances in the walkways between tents: a man in a beret plucks a rose seemingly from midair and tucks it behind the ear of a pretty passerby, a woman folds a sheaf of paper into a crane and throws it into the air only to have it turn to a dove in flight, groups of jugglers and tumblers wander through the pathways with all manner of items to catch…
Sometimes even blue fire with no torch.
Each tent -- some black, some white, some tinged in red -- offers another spectacle. The tent of futures has oracles who can read things to be from cards or from lines on hands or from the mist of a mirrored ball. The hall of illusions boasts a small troupe of smart-dressed individuals with nary a sleeve to hide a rabbit who produce entire scenes of wonder and fancy to take up the tent. Some say that peering into one of the Hall of Reflections’ many mirrors results in doorways to other worlds more fantastic and exotic than the next.
Every now and then someone peers into the distance of the carnival and stares longer than most. Perhaps it's a ripple of something on the distance, or a shadow of a chateau on the ground for an instant, or some blurring between the lines of reality and the fantasy that the mind so desperately wants to believe.
After all, magic is nothing more than a fairy tale -- a sweet story to tell a child with dreams as large as their own shadow. The magic of the illusion is nothing more than a case of clever misdirection, the diviners of the future just cunning charlatans who know what to say and when. Magic is nothing more than a beguilement of the mind, and nothing more.
And yet, when the carnival vanishes days later, leaving nothing more than memories and an old admissions ticket, one can’t help but suspect true magic.

The Art of Matthias Jung
We have featured the amazing collages by Matthias Jung before, but could not resist sharing these new pieces in the series of surreal architecture with everyone.

Welcome to our first site preview! I always like it when I can check the site rules in a site buzz just to make sure the atmosphere for the site works with what my expectations are. It usually gives me a good idea whether or not the site and its staff are going to work well for me, and vice-versa. After all, it’s a bummer to get excited about a new roleplay and get all these character ideas, only for things to not… really gel properly. Also, these rules might be altered or edited or expanded before the opening of the site, but generally these are the core rules that we will be sticking to and valuing for the roleplay.
So without further ado, here is our first site preview under the cut! Keep your eyes peeled, because we’ll have more content soon! The plot is coming!
Basics
Magica is Jcink Premium, and we are a mature roleplay. This means that we do require you to be eighteen years or older in order to apply, and we do expect your characters to be of legal age as well.
Mature content is allowed, but please remember to TAG your posts with a [M] if your post contains mature content. If you think there is content in your post that might trigger a fellow member, please put a (TW: TW EXPLANATION) at the beginning of the post in question.
This should go without saying, but respect one another. Just because your characters hate each other in the roleplay, it doesn’t mean that you have to carry that hatred into out of character interactions. Drama will not be tolerated in this roleplay, and anyone starting unnecessary drama intentionally will be dealt with.
It should also go without saying, but don’t powerplay or godmode without specific permission from your roleplaying partners – we’re all about respect here.
Registering
Please register your character’s name in standard format: Firstname Lastname.
We do not allow OOC accounts for members on Magica. We have a “switch account” function that should let you toggle between your characters with ease. Any OOC account you see on the board will belong to a staff member or it will be the Event account.
Face Claims and Graphics
Each character on Magica will have a face claim. Face claims are required to be models, actors, or musicians. Please refrain from using someone who does not want to be used for roleplay, and please also refrain from using someone who is deceased for a face claim.
Your face claim must be within 5 years, give or take, of your character’s age. If your face claim looks exceptionally youthful or aged, then we can make an exception to this rule, but otherwise? 5-/5+ is the way to go.
You are required to have graphics for each section of your mini profile and application. The graphic sizes are: (tbd until the skin is finalized. I’ll post a preview for all user graphics so you can do them in advance).
If you cannot make your own graphics, please contact someone to help you out.
Additionally, while we are a Premium Jcink site with mature themes, please refrain from using avatars and images that have nudity or excessive violence.
We do not allow signatures at this time.
Characters
You are allowed three free characters for Magica. This means that your first three characters can be made without any time in between. After three characters, you are required to reach twenty-five posts with your latest character in order to apply for a new one. Please do not rapidly post twenty-five posts on the latest account and then neglect the character just so that you can have a bunch of characters.
You will be expected to stay active with your characters, and we will limit members who cannot keep up.
Each character is expected to be well-thought out and rounded, but also have some direction for development. We’ll be sure to throw some conflict at them with the plot, but also give them some depth as a standalone character. It’s one thing to want a specific want ad or ship for a character, but please refrain from making a character that ABSOLUTELY needs that want ad or character in order to function.
Also, avoid cookie-cutter characters if possible. The moody and taciturn figure in the bar? The sugary-sweet you-hate-her-because-she’s-so-nice girl who ALWAYS wants to help? These are good foundations, but don’t make this the ONLY thing that your character is. Maybe the taciturn figure in the bar has social anxiety? Perhaps the sugary-sweet help-everyone lady has hidden anger problems so her need to help comes out rather… aggressively. These are things to consider.
Posting
Please use the posting templates provided on the site. You are allowed to use whatever posting templates you want in your development forum, provided the coding does not clash with the site.
Magica makes use of an archiving system for its posts, and to that end we do need things to be tagged correctly. Please use the topic description to write your tags. A template for tags is as follows: Partner’s Character in thread | Date thread takes place | Mature Content (please delete if this is a thread without mature content)
For example, if Jack and Jill were threading together, it would look like this: Jill | May 1, 2018 | [M]
There is no set word count for Magica. Everyone has a different writing style, so it seems unfair to set an arbitrary word count and then have some people easily reach it while saying nothing at all because their writing is that dense while others struggle because their writing style is snappy and concise. The general rule of thumb is to try and answer the content of our partner(s) post(s) and then provide more direction of the thread. Roleplaying is essentially written improv – you do need the “yes, and?"
We also do expect you to stay active with all of your characters. Magica will never have activity checks, but the staff will actively monitor accounts and see who hasn’t been posting or visiting the site in a while. Characters that have been abandoned will be placed in the archives – nothing is ever deleted. If your character is archived, simply message an admin and we’ll take them out of the archive for you. If your character is attached to a specific story element and you disappear, we will have to find a way to explain your character’s absence. You might not receive your position or all of your claims back, but you can still bring the character back.
Changes
The Staff reserve the right to make any changes to the rules. Unfortunately we cannot anticipate every situation, so we might have to make changes or alterations to the rules in response to something in the future, or to make the roleplay fairer and safer to our members. If you have questions, concerns or helpful suggestions, please feel free to contact a member of staff.
