Gale Dekarios is a character who has undergone so much development, both behind the scenes, and within the game. I remember not being too fond of him when the game first launched, because a bug (that is hilarious in hindsight) made it so he started hitting on you after essentially a single conversation. However, as per usual, Larian listened to the fans and calmed him down. Once I gave a Gale romance a chance I could confidentially say. I get it. I get it Gale Girlies. This man is so sweet and although his confidence in his craft is through the roof, when it comes to true self worth his self esteem is below the Hells. All he wants is to be loved for who he is, and who can't relate to that?

I hope more people give him a chance in the future.

Also, it's Taaaaaara!

I keep seeing people say that Karlach is the only character who doesn't get a happy ending, but after playing through every character's entire questline I strongly disagree. I think some of them get to take out their abusers, and some get to at least have some semblance of a future, but not necessarily a "happy" end. Take Astarion here. Even if he defeats Cazador he is eternally branded by him. Every time he notices his scars in any capacity he will remember what happened to him. Every night when he trances he has a chance of reliving the tortures. If he is a spawn after defeating Cazador he will be doomed to be a nomad in the darkness for eternity, because vampires will always be hunted down. Cazador, dead or not, will always be looming over him.

Same can go for characters like Gale. He is always going to be branded by Mystra and she will always be a part of him, so there is no avoiding her.

Just thoughts!

I need to take a moment to gush over the "Happy" buff that he gets when you offer to let him bite you. Yes, it is great that he's better when he fights, but I want to talk about the fact that they easily could have just not used the Bloodlust potion and named this ability Bloodlust instead. Rather than doing that they chose to call it Happy and make the icon a joyful vampire smile. He isn't happy because he is fighting better. He is happy because he has proof that you trust him fully. You trust him enough to allow yourself to be put into a position where he could easily overpower and kill you if he wanted to. He has never experienced anyone who trusted him this this extent. Especially not after his 200 years of enslavement. He is happy because as the game goes on and he realizes how safe You are and how much he trusts YOU. For the first time he knows he is truly safe and for the first time in 200 years he really is happy. <3

When writers craft a truly amazing character they take on a life that makes them more than just a fictional being. They help people heal, they help them see their own faults and mistakes, they help them love themselves better. I have been in absolute shock at how Astarion has helped me understand some of my own traumas.
