;; I’ve reached 40 followers, and I couldn’t be more thankful, but I should probably give a heads up I will be low activity for a bit. This is due to my interest being on my oc muses. However I AM roleplaying fire emblem verses on them, so I’ll drop em here.

As I was telling @v0nriegan yesterday, Mercedes is very open to other faiths/religions. Although definitely a devout follower and believer in her Goddess, she can perfectly respect other faiths, and doesnt see reason to fight about them. In fact, she encourages and partakes in learning about other types of religion, even if she does not follow them herself!
It helps Mercedes doesn’t inherently believe in the Singular Goddess as she’s depicted, either - Mercedes believes in HER goddess, her faith. the goddess that protects and drives her. But she doesn’t ever think “This is the only goddess everyone shoud follow” but rather “This is the goddess I have chosen , who has chosen me.”
The biggest reasoning behind this HC is how she’s so willing to learn and explore Dedue’s culture and faith in their supports. I don’t believe that was a one-time case, no sort of exception to the rule. I think that’s a regular thing for a character as kind and carefree as her.

“But if it’s not too intrusive - May I hear about your Faith sometime? I don’t believe the world’s religions fall too far from the same tree, after all. And a life without daily prayer sounds most intriguing.”
“ ––what? oh, no, no I don’t. uh;” it’s a rare moment to see them so nervous. as if they’ve been caught in the act. “well, I don’t really pray, I guess. daily prayer isn’t part of the Faith where I’m from… so I… well, I want to pay my respects to your Goddess, as a guest in this land, but I’m not really sure how.”

Mercedes was...surprised that she’d have such a reaction to someone she just met. But it was like the stars aligned - she saw Link and...Her heart began pounding. It felt uncomfortable at first - and it scared her! Was she having a heart attack? Instinctively, she began praying silently, but...
She also felt too confused to pray! So her prayers were jumbled...Oh, the Goddess would never accept such a prayer!
Was this something more...? The blonde lad was handsome, but...Oh, she wouldn’t have time for such things! She shook her head...Time to move away before this got any worse.

Mercedes smiled at Claude as the opened the door. She shook her head, though, at his denial of a crime... “No, Claude, I came to check on you.”
Putting a hand on her cheek and holding out her other arm - it was revealed she held a small, wrapped up box! “It has some Get Well Sweets in it,” She explained, “I made them myself.”

Claude figured, out of all the students, Mercedes was someone he should’ve expected to show concern when someone was sick. He should’ve known she’d come to check on him when he hadn’t shown up outside lately- Word probably got around, after all.
Even so, in his sickly state, his brain wasn’t working at full logic. So, when he heard a knock, he expected one of the professors, or something… Not Mercedes. But when he opened the door, that was just who was there.
“If you’re coming to scold me for something, I’ve been in my room the whole time; Someone framed me. Honest, this time.”

A SMALL LAUGH OF HER OWN IS given at Mercedes’ light teasing, though if Ingrid was being honest – she didn’t mind the pressure. As a knight people counting on her was to be expected. Sure this may have just been training match but in the future it may not be, even if nobody else was – Ingrid was putting an enormous amount of pressure on herself.
“ I won’t let any of you down and then we can have an even more grand celebration… maybe we could have a nice dinner with everyone ?? ”
“I look forward to that! Everyone will be delighted to join us, I’m sure...How could they pass up free celebratory food, right?”
With a light giggle, Mercedes would nod. She knew well how much pressure Ingrid had on herself....So she was always doing her best to try and ligthten that - oh Mercie, too kind for her own good...How can she lighten what the other has put on herself?
“Good luck once more, Ingrid...I’ll be rooting for you!”

Mercedes’ prayers were not interrupted by such noise...For the most part. Then, the cause of the noise - a student almost ten years younger than herself walked past...Stomped, more like it.
“Excuse me...” Her voice was soft as she finished her prayers with convenient timing. She looked to them. “You seem like you’re having some trouble.”
“Was the counselor unable to help? I can try and offer assistance, myself...” Sure, Mercedes frequented the cathedral, and had seen them around...But she had never seen them as upset as they seemed now!

▲ “Whaddya mean I can’t submit another request? I really really want to go on an adventure!” Paige called out angrily to the counselor in the cathedral, having filled the advice box with the same request for weeks now. Paige’s voice echoed away, speaking much louder than what was considered respectful and thus attracting some strange glares from the students and faculty around them.
▲ Maybe it was a silly request, but it meant a lot to Paige. They wanted so badly to fit in, but no one would give them just as much as a glance. Paige was only 13 years old, and they hadn’t earned Lady Rhea’s favor yet. They mulled over the reality of their situation in frustration, storming off and tossing the crumpled-up request to the floor. “No one’s gonna listen to a kid like me, huh…” they groaned, stomping by another student who happened to be praying despite the noise.

“I’m sorry,” Mercedes spoke quietly, “I shouldn’t have compared you to my little brother...It was clearly a topic that made you uncomfortable.”
She knew Felix wasn’t exactly the friendliest type, but despite that..She could’ve guessed he wouldn’t have liked being compared to a younger sibling! He held himself high and proud, yet she had gone ahead and said such a foolish thing...Humiliated him...
“I also know you can take care of yourself,” She added softly, “And I needn’t dote on you so much...” She shook her head gently, holding her hand to her chest. “I just saw nostalgia in you, I suppose...Wanted to feel like my brother was still close to me. But now I know it was silly of me...You’re your own person, after all.”
