ღ Ramadan with... Lyney!
Note(s)/Warning(s): None in particular. Modern world setting. Reader is gender neutral and celebrates Ramadan. Inspired by my non-muslim friends who tried to practice fasting for a day, and just how they behave around me during Ramadan in general. Much love!! 🫶🩷
Lyney is the one asking you about what Ramadan is, his curiosity spiking when he heard bits about about it here and there. He gets a gist of it from the media, but he wants to learn more about it from you who celebrates. He will listen to you attentively, leaning forward in his seat. He doesn't want to miss a single detail!
You bet that he will ask you about your own Ramadan experience as well － whether you started from when you were a kid, if you had any struggles, and your favourite thing about it all. Just go all out sharing with him, he loves it, really.
The more he listens, the more eager he is to try! He asks you if it's alright for him to try fasting with you during Ramadan, and when you say that there is no problem with it, you will be blessed with his beaming grin! Oh yes, Lyney is excited. Very much so. He can't wait to experience his very first day of fasting all the way with you. He'll ask for your guidance along the way, wanting to respect the practices of the holy month. He is determined to do his very best.
Mentally prepared! Pumped up!! He's ready to go!!! 💪 He will get to bed early, but ends up taking awhile to fall asleep... he can't help it.
He's not a morning person, but he trusts himself to wake up for suhoor (Lyney can do anything he puts his mind to!). Even so, he still will ask for your help to wake him up, just in case.
He doesn't usually have so much appetite early in the morning. He never imagined himself to wake up, let alone eat, before the break of dawn. But voilà! Here he is: groggily cheerful as he munches, the sun nowhere in sight. Although you have reassured him that he can take it easy, he insists that he wants to fast properly like you do.
Morning passes quickly. Mostly because he sleeps again after finishing suhoor, but let's not mention that. Anyway. When morning passes, that's when the struggle begins － and that's also when his admiration for you grows stronger. How do you manage to go through your day, normally, all while fasting?! And you do this for a whole month! He is impressed. His admiration and respect for you is what drives him to be more dedicated to give his all. You can keep telling him to go easy, but he refuses to give in! Go, Lyney, go!! 👏📣
He can feel the hunger and thirst slowly settling in as more time passes. While he may not be a big eater, he is used to his timely diets － so it is no surprise that when noon comes, his stomach lets out a low rumble. You ask him if he wants a small break and then continue, but he reassures you that he's fine, a warm smile on his face.
He finally understands what you mean when you warned: "Be careful scrolling through TikTok while fasting", because oh boy, where in the world do all the aesthetic food videos suddenly come from? And so he decides it is best to stay away from TikTok altogether.
He will look after you. In other words (as per used by the generation of these days－ ahem), he will try keeping you in 'halal mode'.
Tuts at you when you say a curse word. Steals your attention when he catches sight of, what we would call, an eye candy.
Unfortunately for you, he, too, is an eye candy. What with that charming smile and that alluring voice. Curse you, Lyney!
"Why don't you settle those lovely eyes on me instead, my dear?" Says he, as he attempts to lower your gaze from such people. He's so helpful, is he not? Be sure to thank him!
No, he's not flirting. Totally not! What do you mean he is???
Now now, beautiful reader of mine, let's return to the right path. 🩷
One of the thing that he looks forward to the most is going to the Ramadan bazaar, or just preparing the meal for breaking fast together. He has always been one to cherish quality time with his loved ones. He definitely invites his beloved siblings along. The more, the merrier!
Gets the food that you, Lynette, and Freminet want. You three are before him because your happiness is his.
He has never been more grateful for the food served on his plate. Once sunset comes and the time for iftar arrives, it feels as though he has stepped into paradise. Don't get me wrong, he always is grateful for the food he gets to eat － but it's different after a whole day of being so patient, holding back from eating and drinking. Oh, what a heavenly meal it is!
Aside from fasting, he is enthusiastic to try other activities, too. He's heard that there are plenty of charity programmes held during the month: donations, giving out free meals in the neighbourhood, visiting orphanages.
Coming from one himself, the orphanage visit in particular sparks his interest the most. He imagines getting to see the children, to spend time with them, and also putting a little show to bring a smile to their faces － things that him as a child would have been beyond thankful for. He'll prepare some gifts before participating the visit!
His first Ramadan experience is one that he enjoys, and would love to repeat. That said, he certainly will fast with you again on other days. It may not be a full month, but on days when he doesn't join fasting with you, Lyney will be sure to avoid eating and drinking in front of you. That, and he still would enjoy doing the charity events throughout the holy month. 🤗
