there's something really poetic about Alexander the Great conquering the Persian empire and deliberately burning Persepolis (the symbol of Persian kingship) to the ground, trying to erase the empire only for it to actually preserve loads of clay tablets which are some of the only sources that can tell us about daily Persian life that aren't biased sources from the conquering Greeks. something about perseverance no matter how hard you try stamp down the resistance...

so I'm holding a Greek symposium inspired party for my 18th birthday and here's some of my ideas:
- everyone wearing togas ofccc
- I'm setting up my sofas opposite each other and having a 'philosophy corner' where people can recline and debate. I've told everyone to bring a controversial/philosophical topic
- in another corner I'm going to have an area for dice/ cards/ games/ betting etc.
-foods like pomegranate, grapes, passion fruit, also houmous and pita bread. BUT ALSO my mums side is cypriot so I have some traditional Greek cypriot recipes from my aunty so I'm homemaking eliopita, spanakopita, patata salada.
-you can have a symposium without wine so I'm making a big pot of mulled wine for everyone
-I don't have intricately decorated pottery Kraters to drink from BUT I'm gonna get some air drying clay and have a pottery corner so people can MAKE the intricate pottery themselves
-it was a social networking event in ancient times and many people would drink out of cups with eyes on so when they lifted it up to drink from the person talking to them would be reminded that eyes are on them at all times. I'm thinking of sticking some goggly eyes to the paper cups
- I'm friends with some very arty people so I've made it an option if anyone has poetry they want to read out of an instrument they want to play they can
- greek mythology inspired playist ofc ofc and u know fo sho Cult of Dionysus is on there
- I've taught a couple of my close friends how to do some simple greek circle dancing so hopefully I can get everyone to join in on it when we start doing it.
- the orgy has been made optional
can't wait :) any other ideas you think I should do let me know :)))

so do u guys remember 'a sudden rainfall forces them under a canopy'? and how that was crowleys whole plan to make the lesbians fall in love which is funny beacuse when they first met he took shelter under aziraphales wing in eden?
I was reading Virgils Aeneid book 4 where the gods come up with a plan to force the queen Dido and Aeneas together on a hunting trip. They cause a rainstorm which causes them to shelter in a cave where Juno comes down and marries them together, and they consecrate there marriage. Nice right? Well, the whole symbolism of Dido is that she is the embodiment of lust/passion - to the romans 'furor' (basically the ultimate sin of Augustan Rome) - and she is a mechanism for the machinations of Juno to stall Aeneas from completing his duty and founding Troy. And it's fate that he has to do this, its his destiny. Dido is stopping him from fulfilling his duty.
do you guys think crowley just a sin that Aziraphale thought stopped him from carrying out his duty to the destiny god layed out - the ineffable plan. so he left him just like Aeneas left Dido when he acknowledged his fate.
