The Sims 2 Inspired UI for The Sims 4
After making my own UI override, I've been itching to look back in time and try to recreate The Sims 2 UI in TS4, and here it is!
I tried to capture the look & feel as best as possible, so I hope you can enjoy this mod and reminisce a bit c:

General Info
PC: 1.105.345.1020 / Mac: 1.105.345.1220 Older game versions will not work with this mod.
UI overhaul in the style of The Sims 2's UI.
Over 500+ additional icons recolored for CAS & BuildBuy!
Sims 2 style cursor recolors.
Most text are kept in their original color, though they might get changed/updated down the line.

To install:
// Main mod
Download & extract the zip file within your Mods folder.
Install the latest UI Cheats Extension mod and make sure it loads after the Sims 2 UI mod. Current version needed: v1.40
// Extras
Loading screen: download only one loading screen file. Available in: 4:3 - 16:9 - 16:10 aspect ratio.
Opening screen: file to replace the intro TS4 screen. Choose the file that pertains to your game language.
TS2 Cursor: recolored TS4 cursor to match with TS2's cursor. Unfortunately, some cursors are missing their recolors (rotate cam & grab+arrows in CAS).
EA Notif: optional file if you prefer to keep the notification in its original color scheme.

Fully compatible w/ UI Cheats Extension v1.40. To avoid any issues, keep the original mod in your mods folder (both .package and .ts4script) and have it load after the Sims 2 UI mod.

Do you have any tips on how to make some rooms based on Star Trek set designs? Really, the more I explore this your Enterprise, the more I am *amazed* at the level of detail and accuracy!
hello and tank you for the compliment <3. hm, when i made mine, i was just trying to make something similar to what i remembered from the show, and then i improved it after looking closely at screenshots of the series. i took a long time to browse available items in the game to find somewhat matching arrangements, and then i downloaded or made own things when those weren't satisfactory. it was just something i had fun with, building and improving and changing, and it took quite some time. i guess one tip can be to have bb.moveobjects on cheat on, and move objects around in all sorts of ways to try to combine them into a fitting structure. also resizing objects with the keybinds is useful. just try things until it works.

@obscurus-sims had some great questions so I decided to take the HQ Lady out into play mode to demonstrate the differences. Check out the read more for the specifics!

Where this new method of upscaling shines is in face/body details, as well as clothing that have complicated normal maps, such as the pants.

In terms of file size, items that just have the diffuse map seem to be a bit smaller:

CC Items with normal maps are of a larger size -- but that's because the old HQConverter did not upscale normal maps. Normal maps are usually 1024x1024. In the TS4k upscaled version, they're 2048x2048. Hence the larger file size.

One last note is about compression. I don't know a ton about how TS4 compresses things, but something happens somewhere after what I see in photoshop, and what I see in game. The TS4k Upscale won't fix the artifacts you see because of compression. This is best demonstrated on dark clothing.

So to clarify, the TS4k Upscale mod would only work on upscaling textures (.png and .dds images). The limitations of compression in-game would unfortunately still exist.

Looking for collaborators!!!
Here's a project I've been noodling on for some time now -- using ERSGANs to upscale Sims textures! I'm quite excited about the results so far. It's bittersweet to post about this though. I was hoping to collaborate with CmarNYC's on updating the HQConverter to use new techniques for upscaling. Without CmarNYC's HQ Converter, the current HQ mod would not even have been possible. Her contributions to the Sims community were so helpful and ubiquitous and she will be remembered. So right now the TS4k Upscale mod is a semi-manual process, of exporting textures using Sims 4 Studio, then upscaling those using chaiNNer, and importing those upscaled textures back into the package. So these screenshots are just a proof-of-concept. The program I'm imagining would be a blend of S4pi or S4TK, and using pytorch to upscale extracted images.
I can handle the Python portion, but I unfortunately do not know C# or JS. Admittedly I started this project last year and looked into the HQConverter source and S4pi and and then got overwhelmed. So... if anybody who is a little more savvy with C#/S4pi (or JS/S4TK) want to collaborate on creating the program together, please let me know. I would love to make this project a reality some day!

This is so sad. I actually reached out to her like two weeks ago to see if she wanted to collab on the HQModConverter. She was so helpful the times I had interacted with her, and I was really hopeful that she would be interested in the project. Feels strange to grieve an internet stranger, but she touched my life in a little way.
RIP, CmarNYC
I’m very sad to report that Sims 3 and 4 creator CmarNYC passed away in October 2023. For 15 years, Simmers benefited from Cmar’s long-honed computing skills as she created much-loved modders’ and players’ tools, including the Sims 3 and 4 MorphMakers and Skininators, the TS4 SimRipper, the Sims 3 XCAS core mod, and many CAS sliders. She was also a contributor to S4PE, which likely was used by creators you rely on. Without Cmar’s work, the Sims franchise would have had a much less rich array of mods and custom content. She will be greatly missed.
As well as Sims, Cmar loved cats, and donations are suggested to the ASPCA, the TinyKittens Society, or an animal-related charity near you.
