I know people are going to make this scene about royai but honestly I need to talk about the reasons I love it (aka how unapologetically bitter winry is)

I like the contrast between this being sort of a “bonding” moment between riza and winry in mangahood mainly because winry related to riza's desire to protect someone they cared about, it was the moment winry decided she would do everything in her power to support Ed and Al. But here, Winry not only questions that choice and tells riza maybe that person (the man who literally murdered her parents) isn't worth protecting but also pretty much goes “girl if you hate it (the military) then why don't you leave?” after riza says she “hates soldiers” and tells her that “sometimes they have to do things they don't want to because,,,you know,, following orders”

Like here Winry genuinely despises the military and everyone involved in it, because they took her parents and killed them and THEN they took Ed and Al and their cruelty changed them and took them away from her. And I just love how upfront she is about this all the time. In later episodes she even confronts roy about it, girl is mad MAD when she says “aren't you going to say anything? You're the one who got them into this in the first place.” and refuses to answer riza's questions about Ed and Al. And honestly? She's so real for that.

#this is also why I hate that they removed that cos scene where shes talking to roy and hes being all condescending with her about ed and #she glares at him and speaks to him in a sharp/passive aggressive way that shows how angry she still actually is #and a huge part of her anger and bitterness for the military is directed at roy specifically #fma 2003 #fma 03 #winry rockbell #rambles #I want to clarify this isn't an invitation to quote me shitting on mangahood's take on the scene I only pointed out the contrast between #the two at the beginning because I find it very interesting how the “same scene” can have such different connotations #I love that scene in the manga too
