The Alliance between the Galra and Altea kingdoms comes to an end during the beginning of Zarkon's empire. A strange disease that affects only the alteans and humans residing in the empire further complicates the situation until drastic measures are required.
Fearing that the disease spreads among the dominant population (Galra), the infected are exiled to Daibazaal, the dead planet. Daibazaal was mostly destroyed by natural explosions of quintessence. Toxic gases, little vegetation and earthquakes in a short period of time make Daibazaal an inhospitable place with few chances of life
