Yang bringing up Tai in this conversation was great for two reasons. The first being that it ties into why they are even there having the conversation in the first place. It highlights Yang's responsibility as a sister as well, as Ruby's struggle with not knowing how to ask for help. And both of these things can be traced back to their childhoods; where they lost one parent to an unknown fate, and the other to his grief. Tai was right in front of them, but his feelings at the time were so big that they took priority over his kids needs. And that sort of complex trauma sticks with a person. For Yang, it became the responsibility to look after her baby sister (something she prioritized and wanted distance from at the same time), and for Ruby, it became an instilled belief that asking for help makes her a burden. That it was better to carry it all alone than risk stressing any of her caretakers with more than they were already dealing with. The second thing, is it pretty much confirms where the Relic of Choice is? Yang, when speaking of Tai's absence, asks: "what's more important than here"? And that's the only loose thread left, isn't it?
Atlas is gone, Vale suffered a second attack, and the refugees of both fled to Vacuo. Mistral is the only other kingdom still standing, but Salem already has their relic. So she doesn't have any need to go back and bother them. But Tai is still in Patch, he's not joining the fight, because there is only one thing more important than protecting the Sword of Destruction... and that's protecting the Crown of Choice.
Not to mention Patch, by definition, is:
(noun) a piece of cloth or other material used to mend or strengthen a torn or weak point.
(verb) mend or strengthen (fabric or an item of clothing) by putting a piece of material over a hole or weak point in it.
And while Vale specifically references a valley, the name is a homophone. It shares the same sound as words with different spellings and meanings. Namely with Vail: a verb meaning to take off or lower (one's hat or crown) as a token of respect or submission; and Veil: a cloth headpiece specifically designed to conceal, cover, or disguise.
Which is just one of those multilayered poetries that RWBY really loves. A valley (or veil) that conceals the crown of choice beneath a Patch.

I agree. People give Tai way to much flack. I mean, yes he didn't go with Yang to find Ruby and yes he isn't in Vacuo right now with the rest, but in basically every scene Tai HAS been in the CRWBY have made it clear how much he DOES care for his family.
Well, being a terrible parent *is* a flaw right?
It's not like anyone is giving Raven a pass for sucking but she apparently is making some kind of effort.
Well kinda... There is some nuance in this and give me a bit while I try to articulate my thoughts. I'm gonna assume that you mean this in good faith... Do you think that Tai hasn't made any effort at all in being a parent to his kids? Because I think he's made a lot despite everything that's happened. I don't think he's a terrible father that some people like to believe. Most of the ire is coming from Yang's recovery I think. A lot of people with projection issues in my opinion like to turn Tai into more of a villain that he actually is.
Raven has even admitted herself that she isn't a good parent. And she only ever made an effort after she got bitched out Yang and ran away to Tai after vol 5. No she's not perfect either, she's very flawed and interesting... just like Tai.
(also a conversation to be had about the hostility towards male characters in rwby in general but I don't wanna unpack that today lol)

Well it could be a few factors. 1 - Team RWBY and Jaune were thought lost, so during that time their close friends would be hurting yet trying to carry on. 2 - Team RWBY and Jaune miraculously return, so give them time to catch up with their friends and not drop the weights back on them. 3 - If RWBY, especially Ruby and Yang, were informed that their Dad was safe guarding one of the 4 keys to doomsday....how do you think they'd react? 4 - Theodore hasn't been with our main cast so he hasn't gone through the character growth of "Stop Doing Secrets". In short, while yes it is dumb for more secrets, it does make sense for the older generation to still be doing it as both "old habits die hard" and excusing it as trying to keep pressure off RWBY and the others, the fact of the matter is exactly as Ruby said in Boba. We don't have the full picture.
i kinda agree with the popular theory of Tai guarding the Crown but, if that's the case, nothing has changed, has it?
like, it's sort of implied Qrow knows the mission Tai is in charge of. if it's relic related and he didn't disclose it...? still half truths in Oz' circle?
even if Qrow doesn't know more than "Tai is doing his own thing", Oz WOULD have that knowledge. yeah?

I think I remember seeing an article once about Damien at some point scribbling possible names in a notebook at school or something. "Krow" I think.
Wait, if Batman's picking up a new Robin, does that mean Damian's going to need a new identity?
Or is he just going to steal Tim's "Red Robin" identity and force him to go back to "The Drake"?
Or is Damian going to become "The Drake" while Tim stays Red Robin.
Or is "Robin" just a term we're using to refer to Batman's sidekicks, regardless of whether or not they actually call themselves "Robin"? Would that make Barbara a Robin?
Babara wouldn't be a Robin, she never wore the pixie boots.
And Damian would be fine with sharing Robin with Maps... Even if he won't admit it for a while, and Dick is gonna tease him.
It's like how several people use the Spider-Man and Captain America names now. If the others give you permission, it's fine!

why? because Jaune almost had green pants??
And of course the Oscar haters are running with the Jaune concept art.
"SEE SEE! He was never meant to be in the story!" Oh shut up!

RWBY's future
So we all know RT itself is shutting down on Weiss' birthday in a few weeks, right? Well with today's news of hope for RWBY not only continuing but that the CRWBY will remain part of it...I think I have a new way to look at this. If this change is and remains positive, if things work out well with these new partners....then we can think of this a an....emancipation of both the crew and the show. And since RT ends on Weiss' birthday and all of that.... Someone play "This Life Is Mine" and turn it up full blast!

I feel everyone here should be made aware that the fine folks over at r/fnki have taken to photoshopping Foghorn Leghorn into scenes and captioning them accordingly.

So like... is the casual moviegoer aware of Gigan? What with the Monsterverse movies being a thing Ghidorah, Rodan and Mothra aren't as obscure as they used to be but I just... I need people to understand that one of Godzilla's most iconic and recurring enemies is a cyborg chicken from space with laser eyes and quadruple chainsaw hands.

we don't know anything about the big bad yet, because they are still building to that. we are only like 12 episodes in to a roughly 50 episode show. these things take time.
So this is supposed to be a season about animals and the “big bad” of the series is a wolf? Not a poacher or an animal trafficker?
