So, on my last rewatch of Doctor Who I noticed, that in the first season the credits says "Doctor Who"
But for all other seasons it says "The Doctor"
Why? Did he change his name? Or is Chris Doctor Who and the others are just The Doctor?

i'm new to this fandom and i have a question:
do people in the doctor who fandom say "i have a doctor appointment" as an excuse to not hang out with friends and watch doctor who instead because i would.
or is that a fandom greeting, like:
call: do you have a doctor appointment
response: yes, trouble with the screwdriver
