Wonderful Widgets
Introducing the all new Legitmix widget
We have rolled-out a new widget that allows you to share previews for:
Remixes/mashups
Compilations
Entire remixer catalogs
Top tracks in a genre
The widget is completely re-sizable and features:
Dynamic paging.  When sharing large lists of tracks, the widget will dynamically load new tracks as you scroll.  Check out the Hood Internet's catalog widget to see this in action.
Mini mode.  When sharing a remix, you can embed a small version of the widget that doesn't show the sources for the remix.  Here is an example of a standard widget and its mini version.
Lights Off.  If you are embedding the widget on a page with a darker theme, you can use our "lights off" mode.

BILLY VAN: ELECTRONIC MUSIC PRODUCER SELLS HIS REMIX OF GOTYE’S “SOMEBODY I USED TO KNOW” WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT SAMPLE CLEARANCE
Like many new electronic artists, Billy Van remixes and samples popular songs to showcase his production skills and build a fan base.  Billy’s latest work, a remix of Gotye’s “Somebody I Used to Know”, brings his unique classy upbeat style and distinct wobble bass to Gotye’s original.  Until now, Billy couldn’t legally sell his remix to his fans due to the cost and difficulty of sample licensing.  Thanks to a new technology called Legitmix, Billy can now sell his remix by simply identifying the original Gotye track he sampled.  The Legitmix technology creates instructions that fans can buy to recreate Billy’s remix on their computers using their copy of the Gotye track.  So Billy can now make money from his work and get the artists he samples credited and paid.  Billy’s remix sells for $1 and consumers have to also purchase the $0.99 Gotye track if they don’t already have it.  Get Billy’s “Somebody I Used to Know” at: http://lgt.mx/+cS
About Billy Van
As a young producer from the Midwest, Billy Van has been producing music since high school.  As his first 8-track recorder evolved into a functional studio, Billy quickly gained popularity via the Internet following his success within the Tiesto Remix Contest.  Ranking within the Top 10 of the world, his remix for “Knock You Out” reached thousands of fans and voters.  As a featured artist on his own Fact Music Group, Billy has previously released a series of monthly mash-ups, remixing, re-recording and combining current pop songs.  Each remix incorporates an electronic edge; further showcasing Billy’s production skills. Billy’s recent release, The Cardigan EP ( http://billyvandubstep.com ) has seen massive success online, with over 7 million free downloads.

Get Your Remix/Re-Edit Featured On A ‘Kon & The Gang’ Compilation powered by Legitmix
World-famous digger Kon (of Kon & Amir), called the “re-edit/rework king of 2012″ by Gilles Peterson, is putting together a 6-track EP, Kon & The Gang, featuring two of his remixes, and four from his favorites amongst those posted to www.legitmix.com, and tagged “Kon & the Gang”.
The EP will be sold using Legitmix, a revolutionary new platform that enables remixers to sell their work without traditional sample-clearances, while still ensuring sampled artists get credited and paid. The EP and contest are being hyped by legendary dance music promoters Giant Step.
Legitmix is sponsoring the contest to introduce their new self-serve submission interface to the disco-edit scene – a community that recognizes the symbiotic relationship between remixers and the artists they sample, a premise Legitmix is built upon. “Bring old classics to a whole new audience,” Kon explains. “Or remix or rework giants to get known. But make sure you sample music you love. This is not about hiding samples. With Legitmix, both remixer and sampled artist get credited and paid, and everything gets worked out with technology, not lawyers and paperwork. That’s what edits and remixes should be about: a partnership between producers and the artists they sample.”
Legitmix frees remixers from traditional music clearance concerns by enabling them to sell a “Legitmix file,” which works like digital instructions to recreate a remixer’s work using the consumer’s copy of the sampled tracks. Consumers who don’t own a sampled track can buy it from Legitmix or iTunes, so both remixers and the artists they sample get credited and paid.
Raised by music loving parents, Kon has been digging in record crates since 76, djing since 85, and spinning in clubs since 91. He’s one half of Kon & Amir, who released the acclaimed “On Track” and “Off Track” series on BBE Records where they introduced forgotten rare grooves to a whole new audience.
And when Kon started flexing his producing muscle, it wasn’t about being secretive about the people he reworked, but paying them tribute and making them relevant to a new audience. This deep respect for digging and mixing prompted Gilles Peterson to name Kon “edit/rework king” of 2012, and feature him prominently and enthusiastically on several of his BBC Radio shows. In the words of Soul Clap: “Kon is the best Disco/Funk/Soul/Boogie DJ in the world.” Kon takes a more modest approach, noting that Kon means “king of nothing,” and seeks to place the love of music in general above his own work.

Gosteffects launches Legitmix powered remix competition where contestants own and sell their remixes of his work, with his favorite featured on his official "Kick The Bass Remixes Vol. 2" release
After his latest album “Kick The Bass” reached the Beatport Top 10, Gosteffects started planning a follow-up remix album.  To engage the remix community, his manager, Robyn Mitchell, decided to try out a new music platform called Legitmix:  “What excited me about Legitmix is that it allows remix artists to sell their remixes of Gosteffects tracks to fans who own the originals.  So if a remix becomes popular, the remixer gets the upside and also generates sales of the original Gosteffects tracks.  What’s also cool is that remixers are free to sample from any track available on iTunes so they can get really creative with their Gosteffects remixes.”
Tumblr media
To enter the competition, remixers must upload their work to Legitmix, identify the track(s) they sampled and price their remix at $1.  It's FREE to enter and all contestants get a premium Legitmix release enabling them to collect 70% of the sale of their remix plus a 5% commission on the sale of tracks they sampled.
Gosteffects will pick his favorite remix to be included on the “Kick The Bass Remixes Volume 2” album that will be available for sale later this summer on AFTERLIFE.  All entries will be available for purchase via Legitmix.  The winner will also get a $500 cash prize.
The competition closes on June 30, 2012.  Click here for contest terms.
Grab the original Gosteffects stems here
Kick The Bass Remixes Vol 2. is the companion to Vol 1 out June 19th featuring remixes by Blatta & Inesha (OMGITM, Dim Mak), Monolith (Sex Cult, Ultra), Run DMT (Play Me), Action Adventure, Kreap and Fire For Effect.

Max B raps from Jail on Isaiah Toothtaker/ Hood Internet Collabo
Tumblr media
INCARCERATED HIP-HOP ARTIST WORKS WITH FELOW FELON RAPPER AND CHICAGO PRODUCTION DUO – USING LEGITMIX TECHNOLOGY
Max B’s captivating singing-rapping style and street swagger helped Diplomat Jim Jones’ Hustler’s P.O.M.E. reach #5 on the Billboard charts…and it looked like Max was destined for stardom.  That is, until he was sentenced to 75 years for armed robbery, kidnapping and murder.
This should have been the end of the story.  But not for Max B, who’s been recording raps and hooks through collect calls from jail with fellow felon/rapper Isaiah Toothtaker (sentence served) and Chicago production-duo The Hood Internet.
Their first single "Been Told" provides a glimpse of what this unlikely collaboration has to offer aside from the ultimate gangster rapper jail saga and common criminal history of Max and Isaiah.  The full 5-song Toothy Wavy EP will be available from Mishka Records in May.
On “Been Told,” Max B, Isaiah Toothtaker and the Hood Internet will join artists like Diplo, Dave Nada and El-p to be among the first to release work using a private beta version of Legitmix, technology that seamlessly allows consumers to recreate a sample-based track on their computer using their own copies of the copyrighted source music.  For “Been Told”, The Hood Internet used Sleater-Kinney’s “One Beat,” so it costs 50¢ if fans own the Sleater-Kinney track, and $1.49 if they don’t (with 99¢ cents for “One Beat”, and 50¢ going to Max and Isaiah).
Stream and share “Been Told”: http://lgt.mx/+9Y

You helped us develop a product we believe will change the game for producers and DJs.  The new interface, pictured above, was created with the help of NYC design firm the Cuban Council.

Village Voice Q&A with El-P
Click Village Voice to check out a Q&A where El-P speaks on "Rush Over BKLYN", Mr. Dibbs and Legitmix...here's an excerpt:
For the past month Brad Forste has been in the hospital for cirrhosis of the liver. Because he didn't have any health insurance, he has already racked up more than half a million dollars in medical bills. Dibbs' close friend Jamie Meline, better known as El-P, recently released a song to help Dibbs with his bills; "Rush Over BKLYN" merges his recent "Drones Over BKLYN" with Rush's classic-rock staple "Tom Sawyer." (The mashup was made usingLegitmix, a piece of software that allows producers to create mixes using copyrighted material that they have legally acquired.)
Are you a big Rush fan?
I've just always loved that song. I grew up in Brooklyn, and I wasn't quite old enough to be a big Rush fan, but "Tom Sawyer" is and always has been my shit.
(You can donate to Mr. Dibbs at Facebook or via PayPal (use the email address [email protected]). Checks or money orders (payable to his wife, Kristin Rose) can be sent to 4830 Poplar St, Cincinnati, OH, 45212.)
