The streaming era and binge watching has truly rotted people's brains and people, especially in cartoon/animation spaces, always use Amphibia season 1 as an example of that.

S1 Amphibia gets put in the hot seat when this type of conversation comes up and your opinion on it says a lot about how you watch media at this point. Fillers is a word that comes up a lot and it should have never entered our space because it wasn't meant for it.

This isn't saying you're not allowed to dislike any episodes or whatever but like this streaming era has people convinced that any episode that doesn't end on a cliffhanger or isn't drama or lore filled is a huge waste of time and a "filler". There's so much praise for shows like ATLA for having standalone episodes with an overarching plot yet shows nowadays don't get that same grace for doing the same exact thing.

It's exhausting to see the same tired cold takes from people who can't seem to appreciate shows like Amphibia for being a well constructed show. Having some down time, getting into shenanigans, and all that is a huge plus in my book and I'm always gonna prefer shows making me care for the characters rather than pure angst because that's fucking boring. Amphibia gets praised for episodes like Reunion and True Colors but people forget that what makes those episodes hit hard is the journey and the time we spent with the characters leading up to it. Sure you can skip a lot of episodes to get to the good parts but that feels so empty and less rewarding. Reunion, the episode hits hard especially the part where Sprig stands up for Anne because of the time we spent seeing how much they've grown together as best friends. And I could go on and on but y'all get the point.

My point is, if you can't appreciate Amphibia s1 then you don't deserve the rest of the show. It's incredibly boring to view media this way.

This might be controversial but I have my reasons that I hope people can understand. It's sometimes hard for me to accept Willow from T0H being fat not for fatphobic reasons, far from it.

The only thing that makes her bigger is having a round face but her body wasn't always that different from everyone else, everyone else is just more stick thin. It's sort of a disservice to have a token fat character, especially when the character is just not skinny.

There's also the chat on looking back on actresses from the 90s and early 2000s who were considered fat and the media did not hold back on the insults. If you're as old as me or older, you'd definitely know what I'm talking about. I think something like that leaves a bad taste to see the the character who just so happen to not be as thin is automatically considered fat. Don't get me wrong, I adore the fan art and I'm not stopping anyone from it. That isn't the point I wanna make. My point is, the show did such a terrible job at including body diversity and doing this to a young female character kinda stings. Having grown up to see young actresses be called all sorts of things for not being size 0 or the media saying this female celebrity "let herself go" and she just has a mom bod or doesn't look the same as she did as a teenager.

I remember it was a thing where fans would consider artists fatphobic if they didn't draw Willow fat but the thing is, maybe that is the case but at the same time I don't entirely blame people for drawing Willow as she pretty much is. I blame the show for doing a terrible job to be honest. Not only did it feel kinda performative for people to get upset it just takes me back to how I grew up and how damaging it can be that because if you aren't a size 0 or have some fat on your cheeks that it just simply means fat. Being fat isn't bad or an insult obviously. I just think something like this deserves more nuance and conversation.

Lily Orchard spent so much time dissing Amphibia in favor of The Owl House only to dislike the show's pacing and ending.

I have binged and caught up with The Great North and it is a fantastic series! So many Bob's Burgers fans have taken a liking to The Great North and I can see why. It's a cooky loving family with its own identity, it doesn't feel like a cheap copy. You just naturally fall in love with the Tobins and their sense of humor.

T0H fans have been trying to drag Amphibia through the mud for no reason for a while now and I'm like so over it. Like this is about your bird shack show, not a frog show that has ended a while ago. You can have a preference but there's no need to stomp on it to uplift your show. Otherwise, it's not really that good is it?

Amphibia ending so bold, it's still talked about even though it was another show's chance to shine

I love Avatar the Last Airbender but why do so many fans undermined Katara's abilities? Like she's a powerhouse, she's truly one of the most dedicated and most passionate characters on the show. Her compassion and empathy are her greatest strengths, not her weakness. And no offense but this discussion of "what ifs" with her last battle with Azula has no grounds to stand on considering Katara has beaten her every time they've met. Being evil doesn't automatically mean you're better at the things you do. I love Azula as much as the next person but she's no match to Katara.

This is like when tennis tried to convince the audience there's a rivalry between Serena Williams and Sharapova. There's no rivalry if one person is winning every time.

I need people to turn their shipping brains off for a moment because seeing this image shared as content for shipping is quite uncomfortable to witness

The context is Lunella is feeling insecure about her hair after a white girl's hurtful remarks and she looks to Casey in this moment as "this is the hair I want to make me feel pretty and not get made fun of". In the episode, she learns to embrace har natural hair and take care of it. It's a very touching episode, don't reduce it for shipping nonsense.

Shipping can be fun but please don't do things like this. It's so insulting to the writing and to anyone who have been in Lunella's position.

Stuff like this is why people turn away from things. It's okay to ship for FUN but we kindly ask that it shouldn't be a main priority when consuming media. I say this as someone who enjoys a lot of shipping and I ship these two. Just know where to draw the line.
