Madara: Yep, that’s the situation right there! I hope everyone can come together to help Sora-san achieve his wish, somehow ☆

Tetora: No, wait. Even if you say “That’s the situation right there”, I haven’t the foggiest clue what the situation is at all… …

Chiaki: I'm in the same boat too. However, it’s the duty of a hero to help those in need. If Harukawa wishes to train with me, I’ll be his training partner for however long it takes!

Kuro: Hmm. I don’t mind either, but can we at least know why you want to train with us?

One can’t really train without knowing what the goal is, after all.

Sora: Urgh. It’s not a dance, okay~. It’s a Finishing Move!

Madara: Whoops! Sorry, my bad! You’re absolutely right. Anyway, that’s the reason why I invited you here after seeing you so worked up about it after all.

Tetora: Now, Sora-kun, try loosening your fists a little. Don’t rely solely on your fists to strike—try twisting your hips to inject more power into your punch!

Chiaki: Whoa, you're looking good! Those punches of yours have some serious power behind them ♪

Sora: HiHi~! Punching rhythmically like this makes it feel like Sora’s playing a fun music game! It’s almost as if Sora can see the notes coming in from the front, huh~?

TAKE! THAT! And THAT! Sora will be trying his best to aim for a Full Combo now ♪

Kuro: Oi, oi. You shouldn’t be losin’ yer focus and thinkin' of other games during warmup, should you?

If you get too carried away, you’ll run outta steam and bonk before achievin’ yer goal, Harukawa.

However, it’s true that I can give some advice based on my experience to you.

The key idea to remember is—to contract when needed, and to extend when needed.

For instance, right before jumping, you should fully contract to gather as much power as you possibly can—

—and then unleash all that power at the moment of the jump, extending fully into the punch as you connect with your opponent’s chin.

If you do that, you’ll have an impressively flashy uppercut!

Sora: Hm~mm? Um… … So, contracting fully before extending—?

Tetora: Ahaha. Morisawa-senpai just dumped a bunch of unexpected theory on you, huh. It’s detailed, but then, it might be hard to understand this advice just by listening.

Kuro: In that case, why don’t I demonstrate what that means for ya? Pay close attention, Harukawa—

Kuro: HERE GOES—!

Tetora: WOW! As expected of you, Taishou! That was incredibly powerful just now!

Sora: Yes! It felt like the character from the game was right in front of our eyes!

Kuro: Haha, thanks fer the compliment. But more importantly, did you understand how the move works from what you saw just now, Harukawa?

More specifically, we were able to increase the turnover after the stall owner and I divided the work among ourselves. We managed to clear the long line that had formed before I arrived in just thirty minutes―

And now that stall owner’s acquaintance has rushed over to help, I’m relieved of my duties now! All’s well that ends well! ☆

And as a token of appreciation for my assistance, the stall owner has given me some taiyaki too.

Madara: (... … Oh myyy? It’s Tsumugi-san.

It looks like he’s deep in discussion with someone, but who’s the other party?

Oh, it’s Anzu-san. They seem to be engrossed in their conversation, so I’ll hold off greeting them for now―

―and without them noticing, head towards the Meeting Room―)

Tsumugi: Oh, is that you, Mikejima-kun? Good morning~♪

Madara: Whoops. Mission failed, huh?

Tsumugi: Hmm? What mission would that be?

Madara: Hahaha! It’s just an inside joke of mine, so please, don’t mind me.

Tsumugi-san, Anzu-san, what strange turn of fate brings both of you together! Are you having a face-to-face meeting to discuss work?

Tsumugi: Oh, it's more of a consultation, if anything. Anzu-chan was seeking my advice as Vice-President on some matters.

February means Valentine’s Day to practically everyone out there. The tradition of giving chocolates is well established in Japan, to the point where it’s become a major market that attracts global attention.

The demand is so high that renowned chocolatiers from around the world flock to Japan.

Madara: Furthermore, ES is holding a “ChocolateFes” this year as well, so if it’s taking place nearby, customers will probably attend that instead.

It seems the conditions are absolutely terrible, indeed.

Tsumugi: Those are my thoughts, too. In addition, when I asked Anzu-chan about how the timing of our “ChocolateFes” came to overlap with their event―

It turns out the reservations for the Exhibition Hall were made well in advance before ES even began planning for “ChocolateFes”, so―

Even though the types of foods served at both places are different, ES has created a competitive situation with the introduction of our event.

If we fail to address the issue, our image might be tarnished with the perception that “ES is a saboteur of other companies’ projects”―

Madara: Hahaha! There’s the smell of so many delicious things lingering in the airrr! As Tsumugi-san said, it seems like cuisines from all over the world are being showcased here!

According to this pamphlet we received on entering the place, aside from the main venue, they've also organised a Japanese food fair in partnership with a shrine.

That’s likely a strategy aimed at attracting foreign visitors. With such a large-scale event, the maintenance costs must be quite high, huh!

Hmmm? What’s that, Anzu-san? "Do you have any dishes to recommend"―you ask?

Haha! I see. You must have thought I’d be knowledgeable about this since I travel abroad a lot! Indeed, I’m quite well-informed about this.

I tend to stick to safe foods during the days leading up to work to ensure my health isn't affected. However, once work ends or on my days off, I often roam around indulging in street food.

Sampling the local cuisine allows me to immerse myself in different cultures, and the festive atmosphere reeeally makes my heart soar!

Well, moving on. Regarding my recommended dishes, hmmm? With so many stalls lined up, I'd suggest trying a variety of dishes instead of limiting yourself to just one.

How about tacos for starters? While you can occasionally find taco specialty shops in Japan, authentic Mexican tacos are second to none, you knowww?

You'll have to taste it for yourself to truly appreciate the difference ☆

縁と宴 (えんとえん): The title of Madara’s FS2 story. It’s pronounced as “En To En” which is a really cool palindrome-sounding title. I just wanted you to appreciate it, lol. Also this scout started on 30th March, which is 303. Also a strong relationship with the number 3. His outfit name is ‘bud’ which, other than tying in with Madara’s flower theme, is such a symmetric word.

Kuro: Congrats to all the Little Misses for your amazing work. I can’t wait to find out what the prompt for our improv scene turned out to be ♪

Madara: Then, without further ado, let’s begin! The Triangle Kyun-Scene Kuro-san and I will be performing in is—

“After the Wedding Ceremony’, “On the Terrace” “with Prince Kuro-san and Madara” “Competing for Your Affections”!

We’ll give our all to deliver the most heart-pounding Kyun-Scene EVER! ARE YOU READY, KURO-SAN ☆

Kuro: Absolutely. We’ll be givin’ our best to meet all your expectations, so be sure to keep yer eyes peeled.

Kuro: Hey there. What’re you doing all the way out here?

Madara: LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THIS IS THE MOMENT YOU’VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR! THE INTERIM ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SECOND ROUND OF THE TRI-COLOR FESTIVAL BATTLE IS FINALLY HEEEERE ☆

Fufu! A clash of titans! What an intense battle it was! Kuro-san and I were on the edge of our seats with excitement as we watched over everyone!

Kuro: Yep. I even found myself clenchin’ my fists as I cheered on all the Little Misses. You've all done exceptionally well.

However, the battle is far from over. The next theme is goin’ to be “Who are we to each other?”

Madara: Exactly! Please pick a favourite from among “Kuro and Madara as Childhood Friends”, “Kuro and Madara as Seniors in your School Club’ and “With Prince Kuro and Madara”.

Kuro: Uhhh~ How should I put it… These are some pretty unique choices, aren’t they? I mean, whether it’s Mikejima or myself, we aren’t exactly suited to playing the role of a Prince, are we?

Madara: No, no. There’s no need to put yourself down so harshly, Kuro-san. I do recall you playing the role of a Prince before, didn’t you?

Arashi: [ Once upon a time, there lived a Princess with a very beautiful heart.

Of course, she was not only beautiful on the inside, but in her outward appearance too,… … and the name of this Princess was Narukami Arashi. ]

Arashi: [ However, there was someone who did not like the Princess at all. That person was the Queen of the country, who had a beautiful appearance but possessed an ugly and twisted heart.

—Hmm? The Queen’s name? Well, for now, let’s call her Madara ♪

And although the Queen was the stepmother of the beautiful Princess, there was no familial love between them—

—because the black-hearted Queen was wildly jealous of her step-daughter’s great beauty.

Today, as she always did, the Queen asked of her magic mirror which only reflects the truth—

Tsumugi: What an interesting story! It’s full of openings for a straight man (2) to interact with!

Natsume: SeriousLY? How can you lie to the children like thIS? What’s this about the Princess’ name being Narukami Arashi?

Arashi: Hmph! That’s fine, isn’t it! Fairy tales are for living your dreams, aren’t they! I want to be a Princess too!

Natsume: WeLL, I do understand how you feEL, but won’t the children be confused to hear you’re playing the Princess roLE?

Arashi: Hold on! Why would that result in any confusion, is there a law that says a Princess must be female?! What does it matter anyway; fairy tales are fantasies, after all!

Madara: Urm. By the way, why am I laughing like that humongous character in One P*ece (1)? That’s a reeeally strange character to be portraying me as, isn’t it?

Arashi: Fufu! While I was reading the manga, the thought, “Ah, this person is just like Mama” went through my mind!

Madara: All the same, I’m not that huge either, am I?

Arashi: Ohh seriously, that’s enough. Stop interrupting and watch quietly!

Arashi: Erm, actually... One of the reasons I’m showing you guys this segment of the video was because I wanted to showcase how especially charming I was as I read the picture book to the children. However—

—There’s another reason as to why I want you to see this.

Somehow, as I was reading the picture book to the children, some of them had very strange reactions to the story… …

Madara: Huh? Strange reactions—?

Arashi: Yes. I mentioned encountering an “unusual incident” earlier, didn’t I?

By the way, you might have already guessed it by now, but the title of the fairy tale I was reading to the children was “Snow White”.

There were a few pages missing in the picture book for some reason, so I improvised by doing up a few sketches and adding them in.

Look, this scene in particular is my favourite—

The scene where Narukami Arashi, with the seven cute dwarves—Sorry, I mean the four foolish Knights—repel the assassins dispatched by the evil Queen together ♪

Natsume: That’s amaziNG. You’re casually altering the plot of the story as you pleaSE.

Madara: Er, how can you just get rid of the assassins sooo easily? The story would just end there, wouldn't it?

Arashi: That doesn’t matter~, the ending’s the only part that needs to make sense in the end—No, in fact all will be well as long as the story ends well.

Most people will be satisfied as long as the story ends with—”And they all lived happily ever after.”

Tsumugi: Indeed. That much is true.

Madara: But then, what about the strange reactions you mentioned the children having earlier? Right now, the only thing I find odd is how they’re able to listen to this story so attentively to the very end, though?

Arashi: That’s what’s coming up next. See, it’s the last scene of the most beautiful Princess in the world, Narukami Arashi’s—or rather Snow White’s—story now. It seems this picture book is pretty faithful to the original, truly scary “dark fairy tales” because—

The Princess made the Queen dance on a scorching hot iron plate as revenge for all the terrible things she had done.

It’s meant to be a satisfying scene where good triumphs over evil, and the evil villain gets their just desserts, right?

Arashi: However, as I was enthusiastically reading that scene out loud, several of the children started crying—

—and they definitely weren't tears of joy.

Arashi: They weren’t quietly sobbing either. They started shrieking loudly all of a sudden, as if possessed by demons, or evil spirits—

Some of the children even started throwing up uncontrollably.

I was at a total loss for what to do—I almost started crying myself.

Fortunately, one of the staff came hurrying over right away and soothed the agitated children, calming them down.

Natsume: OhHH? How impressiVE. I guess that’s a genuine professional childcare worker for yOU.

Tsumugi: Hmm~. Getting children to stop crying once they start is no easy task, though… …

Arashi: No. The children’s crying stopped instantly. It seemed as if a magic spell had been cast on them.

Natsume: … … Could it be the children were administered an inhalant sedatiVE?

Arashi: No, it didn’t seem like that at all.

Looking back on it now, the method of it was really baffling, though… …

That staff worker simply went around whispering something into the children’s ears, but they recovered and stopped crying immediately.

What was that all about, I wonder? With everything that’s happened, and now, the children’s strange reactions—there’s definitely something odd going on here.

Madara: Hmmm… … Can I just ask—were all the children in the room crying at the same time when the tears started?

Arashi: Why are you asking about that? If I think back on it though, among the children… … I recall it seemed to be the older kids who started crying first—?

Up until that moment, they had been behaving very maturely, in a manner way beyond their years, which was why their reaction came as such a sudden shock to me.

The younger ones must’ve felt the same way too, and started to panic and cry themselves when they saw the older children cry—

—And they were the ones who continued crying for a long time after, for some reason.

Madara: Hmmm. I see. A great deal is starting to fall into place nowww.

Tsumugi: Oh my… …? Do you have any idea about what transpired during that strange event, Mikejima-kun?

Madara: Well, there’re some things which seem reeeally odd to me, which is why I’m just inquiring casually about them.

I’ll start looking into the situation more closely tomorrow, taking into account what I’ve heard from Arashi-san.

Indeed. This is only just a ‘hunch’ of mine, but—

—there’s a possibility an unbelievably tragic incident or accident might have taken place in the history of that Dancing Cranes Home.

It’s been a tumultuous roller-coaster of a year... ... But then again, those days were pretty exciting, too. You’ve been busy every day too, haven't you, Anzu-san? Fufu. I don't know what the new year will bring, but I'd be happy to walk alongside Anzu-san as an idol.

Madara: Wanting to be seen as a Mama is just a personal wish of mine, but ‘MaM’ has always been all about livening up the festivals for everyone. However— Everything about that—every single aspect of MaM’s past track record of activities—feels like it’s been completely ignored.

Scenario Writer: Akira Season: Winter Characters: Mikejima Madara, Narukami Arashi, Sakasaki Natsume, Aoba Tsumugi

Tsumugi: You've worked really hard today, everyone~ ♪

So, how did it go? Does anyone have any feedback to give after our first day?

Madara: Errr… Even if you ask how it went, I can only say that it’s been reeeally challenging!

Natsume: I’ll be ordering some food and drinks for everyone to shaRE, alrigHT?

… … By the wAY, the cameras have only been set up at Dancing Cranes Home and nowhere elSE, so feel free to speak your mind here without restraiNT.

Fufu. Let’s enjoy some delicious food as we engage in open conversatiON. Any complaints you may have will be gladly entertainED, tOO.

Madara: That’s a huge relief. It would've been impossible for us to relax if we were constantly monitored 24/7!

Tsumugi: Fufu. We idols often face situations like that in our line of work, don’t we?

During events which last the entire day, like StarFes for example, we could never afford to let our guard down for even a moment!

Madara: We could still grab short breaks in the dressing room during those events, though!

In this job however, we were constantly interacting with those kids throughout their waking hours—

*Sigh* Hours which they spent causing aaall sorts of outrageous trouble, one after the other. As that old saying goes, being a parent is tough!

Natsume: FufufU. It's unexpectedly tough being a "Mama", isn’t iT?

Madara: Good grief. If I had known things would end up like this, I would never have wished for a MaM-like job. And it’s way too late to say this now, but it reeeally feels like an unexpected curveball's been thrown at me.

Madara: Huh? What festival is that? It’s the off-season for temple festivals now, isn't it?

Tsumugi: Fufu! If you’re expecting something as grand as a Summer Festival, you're going to be severely let down.

This is a small event held privately in Dancing Cranes Home; a small ceremony, in other words.

The event is set to take place about a week from now, which happens to coincide with our last day of filming there.

Madara: Hmm, I see. That might serve as a suitable climax and conclusion of our programme. If we play it right, we should be able to capture some excellent scenes.

However, is it really alright for us to record such a private ceremony and make it public, though?

Tsumugi: Oh, it doesn’t seem to be such a grand event as that. It's not a tradition and there's no special meaning to it. In fact, this would only be the third time they’re holding it, so it’s a festival with a very short history.

The specifics of the event are still undecided, and the staff have left the planning and execution of the event to us, saying that they'd like us to come up with the ideas.

This is your area of expertise, isn’t it, Mikejima-kun? You’re the main character of this programme, so it would make sense that you be the one to come up with the festival content, right?

Madara: Hoho~! You’re just unloading the entire responsibility given to you onto me, huh? You've reeeally got some nerve.

Tsumugi: Yes, people often say that to me~ ♪

Natsume: FufU. Here are the drinKS. Let’s pass them arouND, shall we?

… … By the wAY, there’s someone who has been completely silent and listless since we arrived heRE. Is everything alrigHT?

Arashi: *Sigh* Oh~h. Are you referring to me?

Tsumugi: Oh my. What’s the matter, Narukami-kun? You do seem unusually down.

Did anything unpleasant happen?

Arashi: It's nothing like that~, I’m just tired, that’s all. It's embarrassing to admit it, but I’m just not accustomed to spending the whole day in a typical family gathering setting at all.

Interacting with the children all day has got me feeling like I’ve overworked muscles I never even knew I had, and now, I'm totally exhausted

I don't think I’ll ever get used to it, at this rate.

Madara: Hahaha. Arashi-san grew up in a pretty loveless family after aaall.

Tsumugi: Is that so? You poor thing… …

Arashi: I don’t even have the energy to retort… … But, I really can’t keep moping around like this, can I?

I didn’t encounter anything unpleasant, just so you know. In fact, it was a pretty delightful day, all things considered.

At first, I had my guard up around the children because of their attack on us at the beginning, but as I interacted with them, to my surprise, I realised they were just ordinary children.

Tsumugi: Yes, that’s my observation too. Only a small handful of them are really challenging, but the majority of them—the younger ones especially—are actually pretty normal.

They’re just ordinary children, still innocent about the ways of the world.

Arashi: Indeed so. And with that natural innocent curiosity that children have, they asked me questions which I wasn’t keen on answering at all, and in doing so, really got on my nerves—

—Like, “You are a boy, O-niichan, so why do you talk like you’re a girl?”

Tsumugi: Oh! That’s a question I’ve been wanting to ask too. That character trait doesn’t really go with the image of Knights and their activities, does it?

Arashi: Look here! I can still tolerate those sort of questions from children, but when it's an older person asking the same so bluntly, it’s extremely upsetting, you know~?

Tsumugi: Oh, apologies. I really don’t get things like that at all.

Natsume: A person's behaviour is shaped by the relationships formed in their childhoOD—

—And it is during those interactions with othERS, that one learns manners and common senSE.

Frankly speakiNG, it looks like Senpai is a blank slate in that regaRD.

Tsumugi: I'm ashamed.

Arashi: Ahaha. When you put it that way, it means Aoba-senpai’s the closest to the children living in Dancing Cranes Home, doesn’t it?

Natsume: Why don’t you make use of this opportunity to learn about how to be human with the children heRE, Senpai?

Tsumugi: Well, you know, one can get by without knowing how to be a human in modern society nowadays. In fact, it may even be a hindrance, sometimes!

(Because of the consecutive all-nighters I’ve pulled—or perhaps due to the immense relief I felt at having delivered the final products—I ended up sleeping soundly until well past noon.

Umu. Fortunately, there’s plenty of lead time before the next job is due. I will need to prioritise a proper rest in order to achieve the perfect results.

Perhaps, I could take a stroll and clear my head—)

Madara: PLEASE PARDON THE INTRUSIOOON ☆

Shu: GEH—? Mi—Mikejima… …!? What in the world are you doing here!?

Hmph! Cease this tomfoolery of yours, and get yourself gone this instant! The last thing I’d want is for a barbarian like you to be rampaging around my atelier!

Madara: Hahaha! What a nostalgic exchange of words!

I recall having a similar conversation with you back in the day when we were both in Yumenosaki Academy! It was about the Museum (1), if I remember correctly—

Shu: NON! I have no intention of reminiscing about Yumenosaki with you!

Actually, I’m here because Leo-san asked me for a favour.

And what about you? Did you really come all this way to Paris just for Tsukinaga’s forgotten items?

Madara: Nope. It just so happened I had some business in Europe, so I just dropped by.

Shu: “Just dropped by”—you say? Even though “Europe” can be expressed as a single word, it’s still not a place you can travel about hither and yon on a whim and fancy.

Anyway, Tsukinaga’s belongings aren’t here anymore. The other day, I happened to send some parcels to Seisoukan, so I slipped his forgotten items in as well. That’s where they are now.

For heaven’s sake. Anyone and everyone seems to be carelessly leaving their things behind lately. They’re travelling abroad after all; I’d really wish they’d be more careful!

Madara: I agree. The language and culture are different here, so one shouldn’t assume that things will be the same as back home in Japan. It’s better to be more careful in the end.

However, I believe the reason people always leave their stuff behind in Shu’s atelier is because they feel so much at home here, you knowww ♪

Shu: Hmph. I’m not happy to hear that at all. This place isn’t a playground, you know.

It looks like you've made a wasted trip. Will you be leaving Paris right away?

Madara: Nope. I’ve got some time before my flight, so I’ll relax and enjoy myself till then.

It is said that the name came from the fact that ‘antiques could be found in such sheer numbers, it was likened to a gathering of fleas’.

Besides, there are other theories about the origin of the name.

Personally, I much prefer the idea that the name came about because of "the thrill which comes from the time and effort spent hunting for hidden treasures here, which are as elusive as fleas.”

Madara: The thrill of a long hunt, huh? Indeed, the accomplishment you feel when you locate a hidden treasure is reeeally something special!

Madara: … … Oh, what's this? It seems I have found something good right away!

Yes, yes! This piece of pottery will be perfect to display some plants ☆

Shu: Humu. Is gardening a hobby of yours?

Madara: No, I wouldn’t exactlyyy call it a hobby, but—

I’m not sure who started it, but my dorm room is full~ of plants. I myself add in new ones occasionally too.

Shu: Oh, for heaven’s sake. Stop jumping to weird conclusions. I simply did not wish to have an unpleasant experience.

Madara: Hahaha! Even so, it made me reeeally happy ♪

Madara: (Now then. Things around here have taken a decidedly odd turn, but even so—

I’d reeeally like to give a greeting to the kids in the Kaijuu group that I’m in charge of first.

However, just as you’d expect from truly challenging problem children, it seems that even the staff in this Dancing Cranes Home are unable to keep track of where they actually are.

The kids have been completely ignoring the facility’s schedule of mealtimes, bathtimes, singing lessons and so on, and simply doing whatever the hell they please.

That’s why the first order of the day would be to locate and capture the kids in that so-called Kaijuu group, then ‘asking them nicely’ to be good children and to behave as properly as they can during the filming period, if at all possible.

Ahaha… … Depending on the situation, it might even end up becoming a battle, huh… … Ur~m, isn't this turning out to be more like a job for a Pokémon trainer or Monster Hunter, rather than that of a childcare worker?)

Madara: ——WHOAAA!?

Madara: (What’s this, what’s this? A vase suddenly came flying at me out of nowhere—

And while I’m fine because I managed to knock the vase out of the air with a roundhouse kick, if it had been anyone else, they would have gotten hurt now, wouldn’t they?)

Natsume: HmM…? Oh yeS, you’re rigHT. What is this painting doing heRE, I wondER? HowevER, I don’t believe it’s on displAY, it looks more like it’s been discarded here with the rest of the traSH.

HmM? The paint looks to be somewhat melted in certain placES, tOO. Could it have been caught in a blaZE? No, that’s not iT. If that were the caSE, it would’ve sustained a lot more charring and damage than thIS.

HmM... I can’t find an artist’s signatuRE, and given the qualiTY, it's probably the creation of an unknown amateUR. That would explain why it was discarded as garbaGE.

Madara: Uhhh... that’s probably the case, but still, I can’t help feeling strangely bothered about it.

Madara: Are those kids, like, SCPs or somethiiing?

Scenario Writer: Akira Season: Winter Characters: Mikejima Madara, Sakasaki Natsume, Aoba Tsumugi, Narukami Arashi

Tsumugi: First off, after discussing with the on-site staff, it's been decided that we'll start by helping out with simple tasks around the place, such as tidying the rooms and washing the dishes.

Uh, by the way, it seems a little late to bring this up now, but it looks like the position of leader has fallen naturally to me due to my past experience in this line of work. Is everyone okay with that?

This project was originally designed with you in mind, Mikejima-kun, so if you'd like to take on the leader's role, I can step aside and let you have it.

Madara: Nope, it’s fine. I believe in letting those best suited for the job take the lead. Quite frankly, if I were in charge, I wouldn't have the slightest clue about what to do here!

Arashi: I agree. I can only imagine how that would be like pouring gasoline over the raging fires of an already chaotic situation.

Madara: Ohhh, what's this? Aren't you supposed to be halfway home by now, Arashi-san?

Arashi: Seriously? What kind of Onee-chan would I be if I abandoned Anzu-chan here and escaped by myself?

There's no way I could leave Anzu-chan behind in this dangerous nest of demons, especially not when all the men here don't seem like they'll be of any use at all!

Natsume: AhahA. Your opinion of us is truly scraping rock-bottOM, isn't iT?

Tsumugi: Well, NEWDI has always been completely dependent on Knights for its survival up till now~, so it probably can't be helped if we're seen as somewhat unreliable.

Anyway, let's get back to the topic at hand. There are five of us from ES and thirty children here. How about dividing them up into five groups, with each of us taking charge of one?

It would be a lot more manageable than dealing with all of them at once.

In addition, by focusing on smaller groups, we're more likely able to nurture a closer relationship with the children—

—which would make it easier for us to capture the heartwarming moments needed for the show.

Madara: Indeed. The window available for us to get the footage for the show is reeeally small. The best strategy for us would be to focus on building connections with smaller groups of children in that limited time frame since—

—any plan to win over everyone at once would probably take wayyy more time than we have.

Natsume: That's a strategy one might use in a dating sim or a gal gaME (1), wouldn't you sAY?

Tsumugi: Yes, it is~. By the way, I casually asked the staff here for a summary of the children's profiles, and based on that information, grouped those who seem likely to present lower risks together.

In the worst case scenario, we would be able to use the footage from the cameras following those groups of children for the show, right? What do all of you think?

Madara: I agree. The footage from the auditorium incident earlier definitely can't be used for the programme.

It's only because the kids are, well, children, that the incident could be handwaved as a childish prank, but if they had been adults like us, it would've been considered a malicious act.

Natsume: We would have had a major on-set incident on our haNDS.

Back to the topIC; could you give specifics on how the groups are actually dividED?

Tsumugi: To start, I made a rough first cut by gender.

Some of the children are of an age where they can't go to the bathroom alone, and that could become problematic if they got paired with someone of the opposite gender, despite the fact that all of them are children.

For the girls, I've designated the group which poses the higher risk of danger as the 'Rafflesia (2) Group', while the relatively safer group is called the 'Sunflower Group'.

Madara: Ahaha. It’s almost like you're classing dangerous creatures according to the level of threat they pose!

Tsumugi: Fufu. I'm thinking of assigning Narukami-kun and Anzu-chan to be in charge of these two groups. However…, who will be the one to take up the more dangerous group, though?

Arashi: … … I don't want to do it, but I'll be the one to take charge of the riskier group.

Natsume: HeH~. As one would expect of a gallant Knight; you have to protect a lady from danger at all coSTS, don't yOU?

Arashi: That’s part of the reason, of course, but when you come down to it, Anzu-chan isn't an idol.

We can't let the Producer-san, who's helping us out of goodwill, do anything dangerous that could result in an injury, right?

We, as idols, signed a contract that included a hazardous duty clause, and we were briefed on the risks involved when we agreed to take on this job. However, that's not the case for Anzu-chan.

Tsumugi: Yes. That is indeed where we differ, in this matter.

Arashi: Also, although the 'Rafflesia group' might play vicious pranks which might result in totally unusable footage—

According to the staff working here, the girls are generally much more docile than the boys.

Tsumugi: Yes. And for the boys, who aren't docile at all, I've also grouped them according to the level of danger they pose. From the lowest to the highest risk, we have the 'Rabbit group', the 'Lion group', and the 'Kaijuu (3) group'

Madara: Oh myyy? You've actually resorted to naming some of them after fictional monsters now. Are those kids reeeally so terrible that real-life animals aren't adequate to describe the level of risk they pose?

Tsumugi: That's right. The kids in this 'Kaijuu group' are truly challenging, it seems.

They appear to be problem children in every sense of the word, and the staff have been repeatedly emphasising the numerous precautions one must take when dealing with them.

Madara: Are those kids, like, SCPs (4) or somethiiing?

Tsumugi: I couldn't say… My sensing of the situation is that the staff here are exceptionally apprehensive of the children, which bothers me a little—

Or—rather than saying the staff are fearful of the children, it feels like they're actually treating these difficult children with the utmost caution.

Natsume: WeLL, they’re dealing with childREN, after aLL. In today's world, where any form of corporal punishment can lead to immediate dismissal from one's jOB, I guess they're strictly following the policy of "not inviting trouble if one wishes to avoid iT".

Tsumugi: I guess that must be the case… … Now then, let's decide on the assignation of the boys' groups, shall we?

I can endure any situation as long as it doesn't kill me, so I'll be in charge of the riskiest Kaijuu group, alright?

Madara: Hmmm~… … No, I think you should leave that group to me.

Natsume: OhH? What's with the sudden change of heART? Why are you so motivated all of a suddEN?

Madara: It's not that I'm becoming motivated or anything, but I've been travelling all over the world while letting my idol career slide, and gaining aaall sorts of experiences in the meantime.

As things stand, I'm in great physical shape, and I'm tough too. That's why, when you consider the fact that the kids here hate adults to the point of attacking them, then—

Tsumugi: —You'd probably be a better choice to deal with those dangerous children than I would, right, Mikejima-kun?

Madara: Yep! Even if they were to physically attack me, I should be able to subdue them without causing them harm—

And if they were to set a trap that would kill Tsumugi-san instantly, I believe I should be able to spot it in advance and stay clear of it.

Natsume: Good griEF. Why does this conversation sound like it should be from a party of adventurers planning to tackle a dungeon full of dangerous monstERS, rather than a conversation among nursery school teachERS?

Dating sims are otome games (乙女ゲーム) where there's one female protagonist and multiple male love interests. Gal games (ギャルゲー) are the opposite, where there's one male protagonist and multiple female love interests.

Rafflesia is the world's largest flower, spanning up to 120cm wide. It is a parasitic plant and gives off a smell like rotting flesh. Pretty much a monster flower.

Kaijuu (怪獣) is a Japanese term, referring to giant monsters or creatures, e.g. Godzilla and Mothra which are commonly featured in science fiction and monster movies.

SCP, or Secure, Contain, Protect, is a collaborative creative writing community (Akira is part of it, having written a novel for the fandom.) Subjects of the stories mostly focuses on bizarre humans, monsters, diseases, phenomenon, or artifacts. The SCP Foundation, a fictional organization, detains and researches these entities, assigning them unique case-numbers (which have reached over 7000.)

ES Fireworks Festival: Three Days Before the Festival

Madara: HAHAHAHAHA! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK, EVERYBODYYY ☆ COME, EVERYONE, IT’S A FESTIVAL, A FESTIVAL! WE’RE GOING TO SET OFF SOME MASSIVE FIREWORRRKS!

Tsukasa: U―urm, about that. The main event is still three days away... ... but it seems you’re already incredibly fired up for it, aren’t you, Mikejima-senpai?

Natsume: Good griEF. Your sudden loud outburst made me wonder if my ear-drums had burst just nOW.

Madara: HAHAHA! When it comes to festivals, it’s my turn to take centre stage, after aaall! I’m sure that even you, Tsukasa-san and Natsume-san, can’t help but feel giddy with excitement deep down inside too, riiight?

A 尺玉 (Shaku-dama) or "ball firework", is a specific type of firework (typically known as 10号). It has a diameter of approximately 30cm and weighs 7+kg. The Shaku-dama produces a sizable firework burst of approximately 320 meters in diameter. To ensure the safety of the audience, it must be launched to a minimum height of 330 meters before exploding.
