Work in Progress - Episode 1
Hello my loves and welcome to this new project of mine!š«¶š»
Here I will be giving you some insights on finished stories: how I came up with certain ideas, the meanings behind song recs and titles etc.
I hope my train of thought is interesting for you :)
Episode 1: "The Line" Series - Logan Sargeant
Title:
The title was the last thing I added when the story was already finished and I knew I was going to split it into 3 parts. Since I suck at coming up with titles I wanted to do something creative where the 3 titles have a continuous theme kind of like the āYouā series with Dennis Hauger.Ā
Now I was on the search for a connecting theme and the only thing I could come up with was a line since I kept thinking about a finish line bc Logan and y/n are both racing drivers.Ā
So what can you do with a line? Cross it.
Whether itās the finish line in a race or the line between being friends and lovers/ the line between a friendship and a relationship.
But before you cross that line, it usually gets a bit blurry until you donāt know what side youāre on anymore. Thatās what happens in Part 1 (blur the line): the line between them gets increasingly blurry as they grow closer.
Ultimately in Part 2 (across the line), Ā the inevitable happens and they cross the line: The morning after their drunk night, they are across the line, but they have not made it yet. It is not: When you're across the line the race is over. No, it is: When you're across the line, everything gets harder (bc I'm a dramatic writer lol)
Once youāve crossed the line thereās no turning back. You can't exactly go back to just being friends, and the future is very fucking scary, especially when you're two young, up and coming F2 drivers.
Itās all or nothing so Logan puts it all on the line (Part 3) when he finally confronts y/n in Spa.Ā
Storyline / Plot ideas / Process of Writing:
At first you must know that I primarily started writing this fic bc someone requested a Logan fic. It was literally never my plan to write such a huge Logan story but it kind of evolved on its own š
āKeep talking, y/n. Iām listening.ā // āAt least he listens to me when I talk.ā
Ā I started with a āpromptā I saw on TikTok where a girl was counting down things guys do that are attractive and this was one of them: Listening to you when you think nobody's listening.
Originally this fic was supposed to be way shorter than it turned out to be and I thought Iād only be writing that one scene (of them in the restaurant) + maybe a scene before and after that.Ā
Idk if you noticed but I like adding little things like taglines and callbacks, so I added the "See you when I overtake you" in the beginning and wanted to kind of make it Logan and y/n's thing.
They also make 2 deals in the story:
The first deal is made in part 2, where they kiss for the first time to determine Logan's drunk talent. It sparks their relationship/ makes them cross the line and kicks off their relationship as lovers.
The second deal is made at the very end of part 3, where they decide to forgive each other for their wrong doings. This deal also sort of kicks off their relationship, but in a healthy, communicative way. It resolves the last issues between them.
Then there are little things like the special coffee blend, the champagne scene, drunk Dennis etc. I can't really explain where they came from. They only came along as I was writing and I went with the flow and my imagination :)
Onto the crash in part 3. I feel like I have to explain it a bit further bc I feel like I cannot for the life of me describe/ come up with realistic crashes. This crash was 100% inspired by/ copied from the collision of Hamilton and Alonso at Spa I think it was, where Hamilton's whole rear end of the car went up in the air. Maybe this helps your imagination a little bit š
Song recs:
Song recs, my favorite part of writing stories lol
To be honest with you, I wrote almost the whole thing listening to "The Monster" over and over again, but the other songs fit the vibe of the parts better.
Part 1: blur the line
Electric Love - BĆRNS
This song is the definition of young, easy love for me. It's so upbeat and makes you feel like nothing can go wrong. It's the excitement of falling in love, the feeling of your heart beating faster whenever you see that one specific person. This is exactly what Part 1 is all about: pure fluff and crushing on each other š„°
Part 2: across the line
High For This - The Weeknd
Who writes better songs to set the mood for smut than The Weeknd??? The build of tension, the chorus, the lyrics, everything just fits so well ugh š« No further explanation needed tbh
The Monster - Eminem feat. Rihanna
Literally none of the message of the song has anything to do with this story I guess, I just like the way it makes me think of a couple kind of singing to each other. Crisis, drama, tension, uneasiness.
Also look at this phrase in the song: "Well that's not fair."
- Both Y/n and Logan have a moment where they've probably thought: That's not fair.
For y/n it was directly after their night together where Logan asks her to forget about it. For Logan it was at breakfast when y/n tells Dennis that Logan's not her type. They're both disappointed in the other and don't think it's fair that they're being treated that way but they don't realize how much they've hurt the other.
Part 3: all on the line
The Heart Wants What It Wants - Selena Gomez
Logan and y/n in this story are the DEFINITION of "the heart wants what it wants"! This is also almost all part 3 is about: That they're trying to go against their hearts, trying to do the rational thing and move on.... but their hearts won't stop beating for the other ;)
Also this is a very modern fairytale... at least kind of... these two kids get a happy ending lol š¤
Pictures of You - The Last Goodnight
Again, the message of this song doesn't technically fit with the story but I like this song a lot and it's just such an "ending the story" kind of song for me? Like, good vibes, everything has turned out good?
This song is also talking about pictures a lot (I know, in a different sense but still, pictures are pictures), and I can only imagine how many pictures were made when Logan and y/n kissed on the track in the end :)
Also just imagine them staring at each other, then they crash into each other as the chorus starts, oml
-------------------
I guess in the end this whole story was simply all about letting yourself fall in love. About taking the risk of following your heart. š«¶š»
I hope you liked the story and this very first episode of Work in Progress :)
Episode 2 will hopefully be all about how the "You" series (Dennis Hauger) was created, I'll see you guys soon and stay healthyā¤ļø

all on the line - Logan Sargeant
I can't believe I am actually finishing a multiple part story right here ahhhhš«£
Hope you enjoyed this story as much as I struggled writing it š«¶š»
Side note: This is the part I hate the most out of the three parts lol
Part 1, Part 2
Song recs:
The Heart Wants What It Wants - Selena Gomez
Pictures of You - The Last Goodnight (for the part where they're in Spa)
Warnings: crash, idk what else
Logan Sargeant x reader; A crash makes him realize where his priorities lie
The French Grand Prix came by way too fast.Ā
You spent the weeks in-between burying yourself in work and sim racing to take your mind off that night with Logan.Ā
How could he have been so caring and loving and then a few hours later be a completely different person?Ā
Then again youād basically wanted to flee his room the second youād woken up.Ā
Maybe youād sent the wrong signal.Ā
Maybe you should have just stayed in his arms and given in to the comforting feeling he evoked inside of you. But you knew that you couldnāt.Ā
A relationship with another driver would be under constant scrutiny and criticism by the public.
Even though you felt Loganās gaze on you on multiple occasions while walking through the paddock and giving interviews, you did your best to ignore and avoid him.Ā
Thankfully Dennis had understood pretty fast that Logan was not a fun topic for you to talk about so the Norwegian didnāt bring him up anymore and even shielded you off from Logan whenever you needed to hide from the Carlin driver behind Dennisā back.Ā
Only at the race start did it get tricky to avoid Logan: you were starting in the same row as him on the grid.Ā
Naturally you were nervous when you walked to your car on the grid, already spotting Loganās blue race suit in the crowd of mechanics and engineers.Ā
When you reached your car, you turned your back to Logan, hoping he hadnāt noticed you yet.Ā
Slowly you pulled your race suit up all the way, forcing yourself to put your whole focus on the race lying ahead of you.
While waiting for the race to start, you engaged into conversations with your engineer and manager to seem as busy as possible, but your tactic didnāt work for long.Ā
āY/n!ā, he called out and you could hear his steps behind you.Ā
You took a deep breath, bracing yourself for the interaction with Logan before you turned around, trying to smile like you werenāt still thinking about his fingers inside of you.Ā
āHey.ā, he smiled at you, and you hated your heart for liking his stupid smile so much.
āHey.ā, you replied, not necessarily wanting to engage in a conversation with him.Ā
āSo uhā¦you nervous?ā, he looked at you so innocentlyā¦ the complete opposite of how heād stared at you when heād towered above you.Ā
Get your thoughts straight!
You shook your head slightly, cursing yourself for still thinking of that night.
āListenā¦. I canāt do this. Not now, not here, not ever.ā, you suddenly burst out, avoiding looking into his eyes.Ā
āWhat do you mean?ā, he furrowed his brows.Ā
āThis!ā, you gestured between the two of you, a trace of desperation in your voice.Ā
āYouāve made it pretty clear that this was a one time thing and Iām totally okay with that, butā¦I canāt pretend like that night meant nothing to me either. Soā¦ I think itās best if we put some distance between us for a while.ā, you poured out your heart, being careful not to draw the attention of the cameras to you and Logan.Ā
āBut y/n, I-ā
āLogan! We need you here, mate!ā, someone called behind him, interrupting him.Ā
He checked over his shoulder to see that his race engineer was calling him.
āLook, I know we had fun together, but I can forget about this if you can.ā, you offered, shrugging at his helpless look.Ā
He opened his mouth to say something, but then his shoulders slumped in defeat.Ā
āOkay, whatever..ā, he turned around and walked away without looking at you again.
What the hell was that?Ā
Was Logan seriously pissed at you for not wanting to get your feelings hurt?Ā
You rolled your eyes: You definitely had to forget about him. Quick!
When you sat in your car, waiting to push down on the throttle, you allowed yourself a short glance over to where Logan sat in the car next to you.Ā
His gaze was set on the lights ahead of you, completely focussed on the race now.
You closed your eyes, gathering your thoughts.Ā
If he could move on like that, you could, too.Ā
āIāll see you when I overtake you..ā, you whispered to yourself, not wanting to break Loganās and your tradition.Ā
As soon as the lights turned off, adrenaline rushed through your body, heightening your senses.Ā
You pushed into the first corner, keeping an eye out for your opponents behind and in front of you, and managed to slip in front of Logan.
āPourchaire point 4 seconds in front, keep pushing. Pace is good.ā, you got the information from your race engineer and banned Logan from your mind, but that didnāt last for long, because soon enough the blue Carlin car was back in your mirrors.Ā
āSargeant gaining: gap now point 2 seconds, go defend.ā
You didnāt have to be told twice: There was no way in hell you would let him pass.Ā
So you defended your position, shutting the door on him more than once in the first few laps. Somehow you managed to stay ahead of him on the DRS straight, but soon enough he was attacking again: this time more aggressive, leaving less space between the two of your cars.Ā
It annoyed you to say the least.Ā
When he finally got past you, you cursed into the radio.Ā
āKeep your head down, still a long way to go.ā, your race engineer instructed, directing your focus on Doohan, who now crept up behind you.
A few laps later you got the chance to overtake Logan again, because youād managed your tyres better than Logan had and he was losing pace.Ā
You knew the move would be risky, going around on the outside in a particularly steep corner, but you only had one more lap of the race left to overtake.Ā
Your heart beat fast when you pulled out behind him and pushed down on the throttle, watching him through your mirrors.Ā
It almost worked perfectly: you went for the overtake and were about to cheer about gaining the position.Ā
And thatās when it happened: Logan steered towards the outside line, wanting to shut the door on you.Ā
But heād miscalculated.Ā
Your car was already too far in front, so your inner rear tyre got catapulted over his front tyre.
You couldnāt fathom the situation as you felt the rear end of the car lift off the ground.Ā
Time seemed to have stopped.Ā
It appeared to you as if the accident was happening in slow-motion: you saw that Logan somehow managed to keep his car on the track, then you realized you had to let go of your steering wheel to prevent any hand injuries.Ā
And suddenly everything happened within the blink of an eye: time resumed.Ā
Your car landed back down on the ground, sliding sideways over the track and directly towards a barrier.Ā
With fear in your eyes, you prayed youād be okay when you saw the barrier coming closer at a sickening speed.Ā
You closed your eyes, bracing yourself for whatever was about to come.
Then came the impact: Your head got flung to the left and right, hitting your chassis harshly.Ā
When you opened your eyes again, all you could see was dust and a piece of the broken barrier youād crashed into on top of your halo.Ā
You groaned, trying to comprehend what had happened.Ā
Your head felt like a hoard of elephants had trampled all over it.Ā
āY/n? Are you ok?ā, only then did you realize someone was speaking to you.Ā
āPlease confirm, are you ok?ā, the worried voice repeated.Ā
It was your race engineer.Ā
āYeahā¦.Iām ok. Hit.ā¦my headā¦ā, you replied, breathing heavily.Ā
Then suddenly the barrier was lifted off of your halo, letting in some sunlight into your cockpit again.
āY/n!ā, someone screamed at you, the voice sounded familiar.Ā
āY/n! Are you okay? Please say something! Y/n!ā, panic filled the voice.Ā
Slowly you managed to tilt your head slightly upwards to look at the person standing in front of your car. Ā
āLoganā¦ā, you groaned lowly, your voice weak.
He reached down into your cockpit to free you of your seatbelts.Ā
āY/n!ā, he shouted again, but it sounded blurry, like he was far, far away.Ā
Your eyes fell closed again from the exhaustion.
āHurry! She needs help!ā, Logan turned his head away from you to scream at someone else.Ā
āHelp her!ā, he exclaimed, fear and desperation in his voice now.Ā
Moments later there were multiple voices around you, all talking nervously, some of them speaking to you, but you couldnāt comprehend what they were saying.Ā
All you could do was try and keep your eyes open, willing yourself to stay strong now.
Then suddenly hands reached into the car to help you climb out.Ā
Still feeling a bit wobbly, you were thankful for the help.Ā
You needed to get out of this car and show your team that you were okay.Ā
When your feet touched the ground, it was the weirdest feeling: like it was your first time standing on solid ground.Ā
The voices around you were still talking frantically, you could hear people clapping somewhere in the distance and the commentator saying something in French.Ā
An arm wrapped around your waist firmly and your arm was slung around someoneās shoulder to support you as you walked to the ambulance that was already waiting for you.Ā
When you turned to look at the person, you frowned.Ā
āLogan?ā
You could still see the fear in his eyes.Ā
āEverythingās going to be okay. I promise.ā, he whispered, slowly guiding you across the track.Ā
āThe race..ā, your voice sounded dry and hoarse.
āIt doesnāt matter. What matters is that you are okay. Iām so sorry, y/n.ā
Later, when everyone knew that you would be okay and that you were on the way to the hospital for some checkups, Logan still had to give his interview for F2, which he wasnāt particularly looking forward to.Ā
Because he knew what their questions were going to be about.Ā
But he didnāt want to relive the crash.
Ā Not now, not ever again.
Ā It had been one of the worst experiences of his life: the fear of losing you, those moments when he saw you sitting in your car, not moving.Ā
āLogan, hi. What a day itās been. The crash with y/n was a close one, but thankfully both of you could walk away without any serious injuries.ā
Logan only nodded, his muscles tensing at your name falling from the interviewerās mouth.Ā
āTell us, Logan, you could have continued the race since your car didnāt take any damage, but you chose to help y/n instead. What was going through your mind at that time?ā
Loganās jaw clenched and he took a deep breath to come off as composed as possible.Ā
āTo be honest, the second I saw her crash into the barrier I didnāt really care about my race anymore. In moments like these where someoneās in danger, scoring points becomes irrelevant. Iām just glad sheās okay and Iām so sorry to my team and to Prema of course.ā, he answered, thankful for the media training heād had.Ā
āAs weāve seen in the past few races of the season, you and y/n have gotten along particularly wellā¦ do you think this crash will have any effects on the relationship the two of you have built?ā
What a shitty question.Ā
Logan wanted to throw his microphone at the interviewerās head.Ā
Somehow he managed to refrain from it, instead gripping the microphone tighter.Ā
āAccidents can happen in motorsport, itās a dangerous sport. But I know this crash was my fault and of course I take full responsibility for what happened. I can only hope y/n can forgive me.ā
āThank you, Logan. We wish y/n a speedy recovery and hope to see her in the paddock again come the next race.ā
Logan put on a fake smile, like heād actually enjoyed the interview, but all he wanted to do was throw up.Ā
He felt sick to his stomach when he returned to the Carlin garage.Ā
The crash was his fault. Solely his fault.Ā
And the worst part about it was that he could have continued the race.Ā
He could have kept racing without even the slightest injury or damage.Ā
But you were in the hospital because of his mistake, his fuck-up.Ā
---
āThere she is, y/n y/l/n, finally returning for her first race after the horrific crash at Paul Ricard! Y/n, how are you feeling today? Excited to get back into the car?ā, the interviewer was standing in front of you on the race track, next to where your car was being set up for the upcoming race in Spa.Ā
Well, how did you feel?Ā
Nervous, hella anxious, but also more than excited to feel the adrenaline rush of racing again.Ā
However, you legs still felt shaky whenever you thought of the crash.Ā
You smiled into the camera and tried to come across as confident as possible.Ā
āIām feeling more than ready to get back into the fight for points. Iāve used this past month to focus on myself entirely, on getting fitter each day to come back stronger than before. So now Iām really looking forward to racing again.ā, even though you knew half of what youād just said was a lie, you still said it with so much conviction that everyone would have to believe you.Ā
āThank you very much, good luck out there!ā, the reporter left you alone again and you felt yourself relaxing as the cameras moved further away from you.Ā
āHey.ā, someone suddenly tapped your shoulder from behind.Ā
Immediately you tensed back up again.Ā
āLoganā¦.hi..ā, you didnāt know what to say.Ā
He hadnāt talked to you since the crash in France and youād been way too busy with recovering to spare him a thought. However, the countless apology cards heād sent you didnāt go unnoticed either.Ā
He looked at you with such an intensity that your stomach filled with butterflies instantly.
āCan we talk?ā, he checked around himself to make sure no camera was pointed at the two of you.Ā
Your gaze went to the track to avoid him.Ā
āLoganā¦now is really not the time, I-ā
āWhen is it then? You never talk to me anymore!ā, he cut you off almost immediately, desperate for answers.Ā
If the two of you werenāt public figures he probably would have raised his voice by now, but years of media training helped him keep his voice low.Ā
āI justā¦..ā, you looked up again and tried to defend yourself, but the words got caught in your throat. Fuck.Ā
If youād thought you were over him, you were just proven wrong.Ā
You still wanted him.Ā
āTalk to me, y/n, pleaseā¦ā, Logan almost whispered, his eyes pleading you to finally open up.Ā
You checked again if any cameras were lurking.Ā
āIt hurtā¦ you know?ā, you got lost in his eyes once again.
Logan pulled his eyebrows together in a frown.Ā
āIt hurt: You asking me to forget thatā¦ that night.. ever happened.ā, you elaborated and watched his eyes go wide.Ā
Then he let his head fall back, facepalming himself.Ā
āIām such a fucking idiot.ā, he groaned, before he looked back down at you.Ā
āY/nā¦.Iā¦What I said back then was complete bullshit.ā
You tilted your head at him in confusion.Ā
āYeahā¦ I doubt that. You were pretty clear on the pretending-this-never-happened part.ā, you closed your eyes at the painful memory, but only until his hand came under your chin to tilt it upwards.Ā
āY/n, listen to me when I tell you that that was the dumbest thing Iāve ever said in my whole life.ā
You gulped, not knowing what to say.Ā
Was this heading in the direction you hoped it would?Ā
āIā¦I know you said you can forget about that night, but Iā¦.canāt.ā, he trailed off, his eyes involuntarily wandering to your lips.Ā
Both of you were now breathing heavy.Ā
āI only said that because I didnāt want to get hurt.ā, you confessed, whispering because you suddenly realized how close his face was to yours.Ā
A voice in the back of your head warned you to check for cameras again, but all you could focus on was the way Logan looked at you.Ā
Like he wanted you just as desperately as you wanted him.
āI want to kiss you so badly right now..ā, he whispered back, swallowing as he realized what heād just said.Ā
You scanned his face: His lips, his dimples, his eyes, his nose, his brows.Ā
This is what you wanted: Him.Ā
So you decided not to think too much about it and finally take action.Ā
Without saying another word your hands pulled him down to connect your lips, taking him by surprise.Ā
It only took him a quick second before he sunk into the kiss though.Ā
He let go of your chin to wrap his arms around your waist tightly while his tongue softly entered your mouth.Ā
You held onto him even tighter if possible and pressed yourself against his chest.Ā
This was it, you were so sure of it: the feeling of letting yourself fall in love.Ā
When you tugged on his hair slightly he groaned and you could feel him smiling against your lips.Ā
It was only until you heard loud cheering noises around you that you realized Logan and you werenāt the only two people on this planet.Ā
As soon as the two of you broke up the kiss, a dozen cameras were swarming you.Ā
āDid everybody see that or am I hallucinating? Y/n Y/l/n and Logan Sargeant have just kissed on the track. I repeat: they have kissed on track, in front of everyone!ā, the reporter almost shouted into her microphone, making sure absolutely everyone knew what had just happened.Ā
You could only laugh in relief as Logan confidently grinned and wrapped an arm around you.Ā
One look to the stands told you you werenāt the only one who was happy about the kiss.Ā
Fans were standing up everywhere and cheering you on.Ā
āWellā¦.looks like weāve just gone public.. on our first day of datingā¦ā, you joked and Logan smirked, squeezing your waist.Ā
He bent down to whisper into your ear.
āDoesnāt mean I havenāt been in love with you for months now..ā, he enjoyed watching your face go red within seconds.Ā
Once again, you completely forgot about the cameras around you.Ā
āSeriously, y/n. Iām so sorry for everything I put you through only because I was too stupid to realize how much you meant to me..ā, he added in a low voice so that nobody else could hear him but you.Ā
āIām sorry, too, Logan. For saying all those things even though they werenāt true.ā, you replied in the same soft voice, causing a smile to creep onto his face.Ā
āIāll forgive you if you forgive me, deal?ā
You began smiling again.Ā
āDeal.ā
