All this. All of it. Especially the part about the Roman empire.
It's not just that the Romans took over everywhere and left their culture and stuff around. Roman Imperial Theology directly influenced Christian theology. Way before the Catholic church was a glimmer in Constantine's eye, the way people in the Jesus movement talked about him and the epithets they gave him constituted a middle finger aimed directly at Rome. Rome had the last laugh, though, thanks to someone realizing how easy it would be to use the evolving Christian doctrine to control the masses. Thanks to him the version of Christianity that now dominates is based on the shittiest
The Romans perfected the lie that Military Strength + Winning Wars At All Costs = Peace, and Western society is still out here peddling that lie.
The King as God or Divinely Annointed so directly comes from them that multiple European monarchal titles are local derivatives of the name Caesar. This idea was a corruption of the Ancient Egyptian idea of Pharoah as God, which was based on an incomplete understanding of Egyptian culture and spirituality by tourists and colonizers who somehow expected the priesthood to tell them all the deep truths after only being there 5 seconds.
I could go on.
Learn the dead white guy history so you can call it out for the poison it is.
the thing about Dead White Guys History is like. It is in fact important to learn. The way people are venerated is a mistake, and the way that's the only focus of history is a mistake. But for better or for worse, if you want to understand the origins of the way society is, you do in fact need to read about a bunch of dead white guys and the ways they thought about things.

As I watched this again I thought: this is when you really, truly realize that Steve is a super soldier. Everything said above about why this works is spot on, especially the part about the lack of cartoon physics. This feels real, and thus it makes everything Cap is doing so impressive. And the moment Bucky takes that shield off of him? OMG I remember gasping in the theater along with everyone else.
goat fight. non-negotiable.

Tiffany couldn't quite work out how Miss Level got paid. Certainly the basket she carried filled up more than it emptied. They'd walk past a cottage and a woman would come scurrying out with a fresh-baked loaf or a jar of pickles, even though Miss Level hadn't stopped there. But they'd spend an hour somewhere else, stitching up the leg of a farmer who'd been careless with an axe, and get a cup of tea and a stale biscuit.
It didn't seem fair.
“Oh, it evens out,” said Miss Level, as they walked on through the woods.
“You do what you can. People give what they can, when they can. Old Slapwick there, with the leg, he's as mean as a cat, but there'll be a big cut of beef on my doorstep before the week's end, you can bet on it. His wife will see to it. And pretty soon people will be killing their pigs for the winter, and I'll get more brawn, ham, bacon and sausages turning up than a family could eat in a year.”
“You do? What do you do with all that food?”
“Store it,” said Miss Level.
“But you-”
“I store it in other people. It's amazing what you can store in other people.” Miss Level laughed at Tiffany's expression. “I mean, I take what I don't need round to those who don't have a pig, or who're going through a bad patch, or who don't have anyone to remember them.”
“But that means they'll owe you a favour!”
“Right! And so it just keeps on going round. It all works out.”
“I bet some people are too mean to pay-”
“Not pay,” said Miss Level, severely. “A witch never expects payment and never asks for it and just hopes she never needs to. But, sadly, you are right.”
“And then what happens?"
“What do you mean?”
“You stop helping them, do you?”
“Oh, no,” said Miss Level, genuinely shocked. “You can't not help people just because they're stupid or forgetful or unpleasant. Everyone's poor round here. If I don't help them, who will?”

I wish I knew about men like these growing up, I wish I knew that trans men could be successful after a lifetime of never seeing anyone ‘like me’ excelling in life. So here are some trans men - some that you may have heard of, some that you may not - that are successful in a range of careers. There are too many of you who trust Beverly "I abandoned my whole career to have sex with the ghost lover succubus passed down to me by my grandmother" Crusher.
Just out here caping for Doctor Hot For The Man Responsible For My Husband's Death.
Not understanding the lack of judgment on clear display with every romantic relationship we see her in, including that time she slept with Will "STD Factory" Riker just cause he was hosting the parasitic worm of a guy she fell for after 6 minutes.
FOH with all that. Hugh had the good sense to come back from the dead, and M'Benga kept his daughter alive in a transporter buffer long before Montgomery Scott ever had the idea (he probably learned that trick FROM M'Benga). I would trust these two men to keep me alive before I even let Crusher near me. Send nurse Ogowa in, if you must! Keep Bev away.
Which main Starfleet Doctor would you most want/trust to save your life and take care of you?
