So I still don’t really get how to properly use Tumblr, but to all of you that sent kind comments/asks/critiques/signal boosted/whatever- thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Everything that I wrote on Twitter is true here as well.
My day of rest was pretty solid, so I’ll probably be back on my bullshit tomorrow. First on the adjustment list- make sure the muscle definition on the legs actually shows up instead of getting washed out by the toon shader.

I heard that the internet likes seeing Yang with abs, so I challenged myself a little while ago to create a 3D model and go from 0 to "finished" before RTX. (I’m cutting it a little close here, aren’t I?) I say finished, but there are still some things I plan on changing/fixing, as well as creating an actual outfit and rigging it all. Soooo... I’m not even close to actually being finished.
I’m gonna start to ramble a bit here, so if that’s not your thing, feel free to skip the text wall.
-The goal was to make sure it still looked like Yang, and to give the people what they want without changing the silhouette too much.
-The model originally had finger nails as well, but I’m rendering at a lower resolution (and overall quality) so they just kind of looked like weird blobs and had to go away.
-I think the only other thing that I really wanted to change were the shoulders. The shoulders on many RWBY character have always (well, since v4) looked odd and I’m not sure if they’re a stylistic choice, a byproduct of toon shader weirdness or something else entirely. Have I succeeded in creating not weird shoulders? I dunno. I’ve been staring at this thing for way too long and have lost the ability to be objective.
-The hair and figuring out Arnold’s toon shader were the worst parts of building this. The hair because there’s just so much of it, it’s all one piece, and it’s really hard to tell what it’s doing, and the aiToon because there’s not a ton of documentation on it so I was mostly flying blind. There was plenty of trial and error involved here- I was saving it as a new file every time I did something “scary”, this model is from file 77.
-I’ve got a turnaround that I’ll probably post soon-ish whenever I get the render sequence tossed into a video editor and rendered out again.
-The eyes can turn red, I just forgot to make a render with the switch flipped.
-I might do other RWBY characters since it’s a good challenge. If I do, Blake will be next.
-The volume 6 soundtrack dropped at the perfect time. Indomitable really helped push me into finishing this.
