My dad was dealing with some mixed feelings so I told him "In therapy when something is too complicated to do a simple 'pro and contra list' we sometimes do an excercise where you imagine all these mixed feelings around a table in some kind of conference, letting each tell their bit and you leading the debate."
and my dad didn't really respond and just stared ahead so I kept preparing lunch. Until a few minutes later when he suddenly piped up: "I am having a bad time at the conference"

The fake audience in my mind: why do you keep making weak willed characters?
Becuase characters that constantly get bullied by the whole cast (or even just by the fandom or their creators) but know damn well they could rock everybody's shit is one of my favorite tropes in existence.
I'm not talking about the quiet character that everyone reading or watching knows is a badass off the bat
I'm not talking about the character that's unwillingly getting harassed and pushed into a corner till they break,
NO.
I'm talking about those characters that whimper and whine when a friend or family member calls them stupid, that purposefully put themselves at the butt of the joke (esp by the fandom; most of the time it's them) and rolls with it every time. Yet the second the villain or someone not in the core group makes fun of them or another character takes it too far they switch it on a dime and don't play any games, show their worth/strength, and reveal to the audience that they deal with the insults of others so that thEY CAN STAY HUMBLE!!
