Shinki

@seitosokusha ‘s character Shinki using magic to fight. Included a close-up so you can check out her cool nails. I’m just oddly pleased with her make-up in general. (And I’d totally rock her shirt and tie.) I’ve been sitting on this sketch for literally years (and the original sketch is still interesting enough to share). Thankfully Seito’s lovely. I’ve always enjoyed drawing her characters. :3

Windowseat (Teo & Fen)

Today is my friend Min’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Min! <3

This is their character Teo sitting in a windowseat and playing with his bio-kinetic superpowers. My character Fen is the little cat made of smoke playing with Teo’s tail.

My first time trying out animated illustrations! It is made up of 9 looping animation sets (4 for Teo and 5 for Fen) contained in 24 frames. I used Clip Studio Paint to both draw and animate this. I’ll probably try it again sometime soon - though it was frustrating to wrap my head around, it was actually a whole lot easier than I expected!

Messy Yun (Concept Doodle)

Messy Yun (my friend Min’s character in our Ryuutama rpg) doodle of an alternate costume from the one I usually draw him in. The final outfit wouldn’t be this colorful - he’s more of a “nature palette” kind of person. I was just working with a particular set of digital pencils and wanted to distinguish the different parts of his outfit. Or maybe that’s why he looks so annoyed.

Messy Mikan (Design Sketch)

Messy design sketch for my Crimson Ryuujin, Mikan, who has a bit of a Chinese wuxia flavor to him. Mikan is one of the four five ryuujin I have for the Ryuutama game I GMed before Covid ruined everyone’s fun. :B I look forward to drawing him properly someday. (Hopefully soon?) I also hope that Covid stops being an obstacle to us picking up our Ryuutama game...

Posting this basically because I haven’t done any posts in about a year and I’ve finished very few pieces of art since the last time I posted. (And the art I did finish I can’t really post yet because they’re either time-sensitive or attached to projects that aren’t ready for prime time.)

Basic update on me:  I got Covid and though it was thankfully very mild, it messed up my creative side for something like 8 or 9 months at minimum. I can make no promises about how active I will be with sharing art either since a lot of my creative energy is getting poured into those projects I mentioned.

Anyway, here’s Wonderwall.

Marginals - Rebelle Practice

Had been looking at a lot of marginals/medieval manuscript artwork and wanted to both practice Rebelle (in preparation for Min’s birthday picture) and the art style. The picture above was “inspired by” a marginal of a crowned angel I saw. I can’t quite call it a ‘study’ because I didn’t try to replicate it exactly. (The original is honestly much better than mine - my focus was really more in having nice areas to color rather than truly study the style.) Left to right are the different attempts I made at coloring. Not pictured: the dozens of times I started over from the beginning because I messed up too badly by forgetting the canvas was still wet before I tried adding another layer of color. If you look closely at the pink one, you can see areas I didn’t erase from when I used the blow tool and splattered purple paint all over the canvas... Hopefully my next attempt will be after I follow a Rebelle tutorial. ---- Also - I am not really in an ‘art phase’ at the moment... I don’t think. Soon, maybe. But I’ll be dormant again for a bit longer before more activity.

Together We Ride

It’s that time of the year again - Min’s birthday! Huzzah! This year is another picture of their Ryuutama characters, Yun (the Hunter) and Vo (the pretty beastie). Sketched, inked, and finalized in Clip Studio Paint. The coloring was done in Rebelle to get the watercolor effects....... which you can’t really see at the share-size, so I’ve included a basically full-size detail crop so you can see it. Also a WIP of the sketch and ink because I’m a dork who always thinks it’s cool.

Nebakey (Ironsworn)

Another Youtuber/Twitch-talent’s solo Ironsworn rpg character. This time it’s Adam “skinnyghost” Koebel’s delightful trashfire - Nebakey Half-Elven. Some of the best hair I’ve ever inked. It’s a shame I can’t show it to you without the color, though. I was super tired and accidentally resized and flatted the image... and saved it. ...sigh. It’s been days now and I’m still absolutely gutted over it.

Fantasyverse Bakugo & Kirishima (Sketch)

The fantasy altverse for My Hero Academia has got to be my favorite alts. I kind of want to draw all of the group already, but particularly their fantasy alts.

Going to be honest with you here - this is probably as far as I’ll ever take this. It’s been sitting in my WIP folder for over a year and every time I open it up I stare for a bit and then close it. I figured I’d go ahead and share this because maybe it’ll give me motivation to try again some day.

Papercut Pikachu!

One of the papercut originals I’ll be bringing with me to my upcoming local convention. It’s about the size of a postcard (~3.5x5.5 inches, not counting the frame). Haven’t yet decided what I’ll be pricing it at. Hmm. Included two of the WIP shots. Bottom left = me testing the layers to make sure I’ve got the pieces in the correct spot. Bottom right = I just liked the color scheme when I took a shot showing the “lineart” layer completed. Learned a good bit from this piece. For example - I’m not nearly dope enough at it yet to work with lines this thin. Should work up to that. The use of the markers for shading was an absolute yes. The black glittery gel pen for pikachu’s eyelashes looks amazing in person, but I don’t think photographed well. (It’s pretty cute for the cheek markings too - I just like it particularly for the lashes.)

Becawyn (Ironsworn)

Sherlock Hulmes (Mark Hulmes) is doing a solo run of the trpg Ironsworn using Twitch chat for help in making decisions. Since I am warming up for finishing up art for my convention at the end of February, I decided to draw some fanart of his character, Becawyn. (I’m kind of on an Ironsworn kick right now.)

Soup for Marcille (Dungeon Meshi)

A quick coloring of my Inktober piece of Marcille! I really want to draw her again - as well as some of the other characters.

I’m keeping up with the story now based on what’s officially released, so I know I’m behind where Japan is, but the last volume released last month left off at such a place that I keep wanting to reread it... even though I reread everything in October. D:

Laha and Crowe Laha is our Minstrel in our Ryuutama game. He has a pet cat named Crowe who likes to pick up unattended items. It’s not really stealing, right? For my friend Beeps’s birthday - which I only found out about about a week after it happened.... ._.;

Arimis and Sigrun Arimis - pictured left - is from our Ryuutama game. Sigrun - pictured right - is from our Monsterhearts game. Terrible things would happen if it were possible for them to ever met... so thank goodness they can’t. Sig would (lovingly) harass the stuffing out of Ari. For my friend Sami’s birthday! <3

Inktober: Marcille (Tasty) Dungeon Meshi is one of my top favorite manga right now so when I saw the Inktober prompt “Tasty” I knew I had to draw at least one of the characters from the series... and Marcille is one that fits neatly into the strike zone of what I like to draw. The texture/color effect is temporary. I’ll color her properly later!

Inktober:  Tom Nook (Husky) He’s a bit of a husky boy that Tom Nook, yes? Bells bells bells.

Inktober: Isabelle and Magikarp (Catch) Isabelle from Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros illustrating the Inktober prompt “Catch”! I actually had this one nearly ready before I left on vacation, but literally had to walk out the door before I could upload it. Back now, though, so hopefully I can catch up to the missed days!

Inktober: Sylveon (Ornament) With all the pretty colors and pretty bows and sparkly eyes, how could sylveon not work for the Inktober prompt “ornament”?
