A concept for an ancestor of the t'au, considered an important step in their evolution similar to the first apes to humans. A social ruminant about the size of a bulky deer that eats a wide variety of tree-like plants and fruits on a savannah/forest edge.
The younglings are very bipedal, the adults bi-quad. They will return to bipedalism to graze, to display and importantly to look for predators. They have a ranking order in the herd, and the adults take turns watching for predators.
The heavy thorns on the trees they feed on give their hooved hands an advantage: they can delicately and safely 'pluck' leaves, fruit, and buds to bring them to their mouth.
Their crests are useful for intraspecies communication through scent and pheromones. It also allows for loud, low honks that spread well over long distances. They are also part of the mating display.
In time, the clade becomes less relient on leafy greens and more omnivorous. As the clade becomes more derived and you come closer to t'au, they become more lithe and fully bipedal, with dextrous grasping hands and a strict social order. The young are born live and suckle milk-like sweat on 'suckling patches' near the wrists of adults. They mature away from suckling quickly.

A little sketch.
Two singular tieflings have a conversation: One with orcish parents, and one with halfling parents. The orcish tiefling has a horizontal bipedal bauplan rather than the sloping, upright bauplan of their parents, and has a huge tail. The hobbitish tiefling is winged and hooved, with a thin rat-like tail.
In Lanjari, fiendish influence is not limited to the humanoid sophonts. The bauplan of novime tieflings is stabilized into a human or elf-like shape with a muscular tail, four limbs and horns, and continues to produce that shape. It is a consistent clade.
New cases of fiendish influence into a bloodline more heavily resemble their parents' species. They can have different bauplans or even new numbers of limbs.
Singular tieflings are very rare. They are also often considered ill omens, especially for the non-humanoid species who are in contact with novime tieflings. There is also often a feeling that tieflings are limited to novime, and that fiendish influence has no grip on non-humanoid species.

Bensi encounters some technical issues after a mission.
Wanted to reveal a bit more of Bensi's body. They have bionic legs, quite a few organs and chest/arm muscles, a huge 'backpack shell' for mechadendrites and extensive brain editing. Most of these modifications were added long ago and have lovingly been maintained and added to. Their legs are extendable and can change height. Seems they are stuck at the tallest shin setting.

Here's Basalts semi-auto pistol, Pax. A custom handgun of an Ursa type. It was commissioned specifically for her by H'med when she became an inquisitor. One of the Mechanicus' finest and sleekest.
