Here we are. Finally. The legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon! What is there really even to say here about a card so famous even non Yugioh fans have heard of it? You just gotta love this giant, all-powerful dragon. Sporting an iconic White Lightning charge up pose, there's just so much good composition happening here. I love how the watery energy spirals coalescing into the concentrated energy ball match the flow of BEWD's body, from the bent wings to the hunched over body and even the lifted up tail. They really help draw your eye across the whole art! Not to mention, it definitely emphasizes just how powerful this dragon is, when combined with that instantly recognizable fearsome expression.

Rating: 10/10, -Kaiba voice- My Blue-Eyes is better than any other monster!

Skyscraper

I never had this card as a kid (despite owing several Elemental Heroes), but I absolutely watched enough GX that this card is an immediately recognizable staple card from Jaden's deck. I mean, just look at it! Strong perspective work from the buildings along the sides, dark colors without being so dark as to be an imperceptible mess, one spotlight for each original EH, and the (presumably full) moon being ultra prominent to indicate nighttime (as most stars would absolutely not be visible in this scenario). For some reason the immediate comparison I wanted to make to an existing superhero base was the Fantastic 4 headquarters, but what also popped into my head was Gargoyles (the tv show) and how they also live in a giant skyscraper in the middle of New York City. Guess this just means that if you fight evil in New York you have to live in a skyscraper, no matter what. How else are you going to see those spotlights with all the other tall buildings around???

Rating: 10/10, What can I say? It's iconic

Berserker Crush

Oh no, this time, Kuriboh's fucking pissed. While I love Kuriboh (and by extension, Winged Kuriboh), I must admit that the name of this card had me pretty confused until I learned that "Berserker Crush" is Winged Kuriboh LV9's attack name and not the one belonging to regular ol Winged Kuriboh. I was definitely expecting a much different image to appear when I searched this card (a much different monster, at the very least). So, it would've been much more fitting to depict the LV9 version here instead of the base version, but Winged Kuriboh being here instead did make for kind of an adorable little surprise, even if he does look like he's angry and going to crush you. It's definitely fun to see some dynamic motion from a Kuriboh card for once, rather than just cute little puffball pose. I also think it's fun that the motion line from his fist looks like it connects with the white swirls from the background, implying that Winged Kuriboh did a little twirl to power up his attack.

Dark Magician Girl the Dragon Knight

Is it awful of me to say that I genuinely like this Dark Magician Girl Timaeus fusion more than either of the Dark Magician ones? Because I really, really do. Like, they gave her a whole ass sword and armor (that is questionable, admittedly) modeled after her normal outfit. The way they transformed her iconic hat into a knight's helmet is so fucking cool honestly. And of course, let's not forget how cool Timaeus looks here as well. Sure, he's much less of a focal point than Dark Magician Girl is, but once you notice that glare he's giving the camera, you just can't forget it. Definitely the best Timaeus has looked across all his cards; the texture work used to imply the presence of scales across his body alone is amazing. The light reflections off Dark Magician Girl's sword and helmet are wonderful as well. It looks like the air itself is being sliced up.

Rating: 10/10, If you're going to say she must be having an awful time riding this dragon, I already know and I don't want to think about it

Curse of Dragon

Curse of Dragon definitely seems to be cursed in that it never seems to get new art ever. The classic Curse of Dragon look (you know the one)? That's how it looks 90% of the time. Thankfully, this is one of those times when it actually looks different. The choice to make the majority of its body facing dead on is really unique for this guy, even if it was probably done just to keep most of its body in frame. Another fun thing about these video game artworks that I haven't mentioned yet is that monster art often overlaps with the black and white border around it, creating a sense of depth. I think Curse of Dragon here showcases it really well, combined with its tail trailing in the background. Maybe it would be a little more exciting if the wings popped out more, but it's still very good. They really managed to make the red parts of this dragon pop in this art, which is aided by that extra, double mouth looking fin added onto the bottom of Curse of Dragon's neck, which isn't present in any other art of it. Its addition is a little weird if you notice it, but it honestly doesn't look out of place. Like I said, it definitely adds more color to an otherwise dull toned monster.

The fact back in the day Raidraptor (from the Arc-V era) was more playable than Battlin Boxer... makes me despise Zexal even more.
