alright, s o- finals ended last Friday for me, so I guess I gotta get back to work.

About that conversation where Ranpo said the anti ability item cancels Jouno’s hearing-

I had always assumed Jouno’s sharp senses were his ability, but alas that was not the case. I won’t be correcting that conversation yet though because I’d rather wait to learn what his ability actually is first, otherwise I might have to go back and edit it again. I’ll post an update here whenever I change that conversation. 

Also also, chapter 5- I have somewhat of an idea of what to do for the first part, but the Black Lizard part still has me stumped. How does one comically beat up Q...? Their ability activates the moment they get hurt-

I like how Jouno redeemed himself to the fandom by slicing Fukuchi.

Chapter 3: Preludes to Danger

Ranpo claps his hands over Fyodor’s shoulders, “Good luck on your case! Don’t trip over your own feet!” And then, before he has the chance to speak, Ranpo’s voice drops an octave and he whispers, “Something’s wrong.”

He tenses.

He’s right then- there’s something strange about this, about the case and the client—

Ranpo lowers his hands, pretending to pull away, but his movements are slowed. He rushes out his last words, “There’s a shotgun in my desk, bottom drawer.”

Chapter 4: The Room and the Open World

“-then I believe this warehouse, perhaps this whole company, may be owned or in collusion with the Port Mafia. There may be more in hiding, we should che-”

BANG.

Some force of astronomical pressure stabs through his ankle- numb at first with the feeling of warm fluid splattering against his skin the most prominent sensation.

And then it burns.

“Dostoevsky!”

“That was a good deduction!” he hears the assailant singsong, followed by the clap of hard soles on concrete, “A shame you didn’t make it sooner. Good morning everyone- hope you’ve all had a great day, because it’s all downhill from here~!”

Writing this Role Shuffle is fun but very difficult. Like- I want to follow the canon storyline as closely as possible so that the differences stand out more, but how am I supposed to get anything close to that dramatic scene where Naomi sacrifices herself for Tanizaki and Tanizaki goes all murder-mode, when rather than Higuchi (who’s only seen using guns) and Naomi (who doesn’t have an ability), I’ve got bombs extraordinaire and dollar store Cthulhu to work with?

The Atsushi Vs Akutagawa is doable but still very different because while they have very flashy and powerful physical abilities, Gogol’s and Fyodor’s aren’t even remotely physical.

After much deliberation, I DID manage to come up with a plan for how to make this work (I’m almost done with my first draft), but then I realized what the next chapter is about...

Atsushi tries to leave the ADA because he doesn’t want to endanger him, the Black Lizard attack, but they all get beaten up pretty easily. This isn’t even remotely possible with the Role Shuffle because 1. Fyodor is not selfless enough to leave for their sake and 2. the new agency can’t beat up the Black Lizard that easily, because said Black Lizard now includes Q.

...what do I even do for that chapter?

"At the Airport - the First Part"

I don't speak Japanese nor English as my native language so I may make mistakes here and there. Please let me know if you find any.

SPOILERS AHEAD

- Aya is at the airport trying to pick up something her father forgot. (She is pretty angry about it she says she will mix his soumen noodle with toothpicks next time he forgets something xD). When she is walking around, she hears the news about ADA being the terrorists. She remembers Kunikida and thinks to herself that there is no way the ADA would be terrorists, but she is still confused after hearing all the news about them.

- Aya bumps into Jouno, who ignores her and keeps going to meet up with Teruko and Tecchou. Fukuchi has told the Hunting Dogs that ADA will appear at the airport to steal One Order. Tecchou has some doubts about how ADA could find out that One Order will be transported to that airport, because the European governments have arranged many "fake" shipments to confuse those who want to steal it. But Fukuchi told them that as long as Ranpo is with them, he would definitely figure out.

- Jouno says that will be a problem, and suggests taking someone close to the ADA as hostages to threaten them. He turns to Aya who is standing nearby because he can tell she knows the ADA by listening to her heartbeats. He starts to threaten Aya, saying he would use her to set a trap against ADA, and that he doesn't care if ADA is evil or not. All he wants is to hear someone crying in agony. He wants to use the name of law to hurt and hunt down people, and hear the sound of their destruction. He is a social evil, but no matter how many criminals he executes, the society just keep admiring him and promoting him more.

- Tecchou appears right at that moment and uses his sword to stab in Jouno's butt to stop him (lol). Jouno gets mad at Tecchou, saying that he is only trying to make suspects cooperate. Tecchou tells him to go get a court order first or else it is not right. The two are going to get into a fight when Fukuchi appears. He tells them to stop and get ready for the mission. Then he asks Jouno to follow him because he has something to show him.

- When there are only two of them left, Fukuchi asks Jouno what he thinks about the ADA's terror tricks. Jouno says that it is a well-polished plan. From the explosion coins to the vampires, there is no way to prevent it. It's like the terrorist are ridiculing the world. He says that he even has some interest in these terrorists and can somehow sympathize with that sadism. He jokes that if the Hunting Dogs lose the final battle, he may even consider getting a new job at the ADA.

- Jouno asks Fukuchi what he wants to show him, and to his suprise, Fukuchi takes him to Bram. He then reveals to Jouno that he is the real mastermind and asks Jouno if he wants to join hands with him.

- At the same time, ADA is hiding somewhere inside the airport using Anne's room. Ranpo explains to everyone that when the plane that carries One Order arrives, they will steal it and destroy it before it is handed to Fukuchi. If One Order is stolen, then Decays of Angel's plan will be delayed by about two weeks, and that would give enough time for The Special Division for Unusual Powers to expose Fukuchi's scheme to all the nation. Atsushi is worried that the enemy might have already prepared a counterplan for that. Ranpo then tells Atsushi that they will use the enemy's hand against them.

The chapter ends here. I'm not sure what to comment here so I guess I will wait for the next chapter. Personally thinks Jouno will not join Fukuchi though...

Nonono wait, this definitely works, hear me out.

We’ve got a few options for Oda here.

This first option only works if the collar doesn’t have to be placed on the neck: Dazai stages some sort of murder/assault/whatever in a place Oda’s walking by, and he takes care of it because he’s in the area. The would-be victim is a child (child could be an illusion) and tries to offer Oda a bracelet/metal cuff thing to thank him, and Oda humors the child because she’s like- seven or six and she’s crying and Oda just wants to comfort her in any way he can. The bracelet is really the collar, but made (with Junichirou’s illusions) to look like some cheap plastic cuff with fake plastic jewels (since if the shape doesn’t stay the same, anyone who picks it up will be able to feel something they don’t see or see something they don’t feel) and it’s frankly really tacky looking but Oda puts it on anyway just to soothe the child. Bad move since later, when he’s at the ADA, he can’t get it off.

OR, Dazai tries to sell it to Oda (none of Junichirou’s illusions required here) as an anti-ability item, saying that the crystal in the center cancels out abilities or something. It’s something Oda knows would be useful for their agency, especially with the existence of Chuuya and his corruption, but he’s a bit suspicious and thinks it’s a scam because this offer came out of nowhere and anti-ability items are damn hard to acquire (assuming they exist in this AU). Dazai puts it on himself to show that it’s not a trap- he’s able to take it off easily and it doesn’t inhibit him (because No Longer Human cancels out the collar, but Oda doesn’t know that), so Oda tries it out for himself to confirm and again, m i s t a k e.

As for Yosano- Junichirou disguises the other collar as a choker. Kouyou finds it in a store and buys it for Yosano or Yosano buys it for herself. They both know it’s ability based because they heard what happened to Oda, but Yosano thinks she can handle it because of her ability, and puts it on to draw out the culprit- a fatal mistake.

Obviously there’s more possibilities than this and sorry my English sucks when I don’t edit it 500+ times, but yeah.

btw in roleshuffle one of my fave things is how cannibalism arc can still work

with them both jun can use his ability to deftly collar the two leaders* with ace's ability collars and instadeath can be threatened- if one of ems not killed in the time limit then ace will simply kill them both on command

*I'm pretty sure Ace's collars have to be put on by the wearer but it's cool to imagine Jun doing that 😭😭 still it works just via like. dazai smoothtalking or smth idk hJDNF
