Dear science side of Tumblr, can an atom have a broken amount of neutrons? I mean, we are taught in schools that N = P - Z, but a lot of atoms have an atomic mass with broken numbers, so how does that work?
For example, let's say an atom has an atomic mass equal to 420.69 and an atomic number equal to 20, would it just have 400.69 neutrons?
I mean, you can't have one and a half neutrons, so what happens there? Do we just ignore the houses after the point? Do we round it up to the closest number?
