No Shampoo - Green Tea
Recipe:
- 2 cups of warm water.
- 1 green tea bag (I used Tesco green tea bags)
- I used the apple cider vinegar rinse from before.
Results:
Due to starting this blog I did this method for about 4 weeks. I really wanted to give it a chance and I really wanted it to work considering how easy and cheap it is. I've only selected a few dates though as it's all pretty repetitive.
Saturday 20th September - I gave my hair a quick blow with the hair dryer and then left it damp so I wasn't over exposing it to the heat. The next day it was still greasy and looked flat and horrible around my face.
Tuesday 23rd September - I added a small splash of lemon juice to the mix today just to see if it would help. I dried my hair thoroughly with a hair dryer this morning to see if letting my hair air dry had much effect on it. It still ended up greasy and feeling coated but not as bad.
Friday 26th September - I'd left my hair for almost a week without washing it this week as I read that this would be better during the transition period so my hair was really greasy when it finally came to washing it. The next day the front parts of my hair felt greasy but the back didn't. Maybe it's starting to work?
Saturday 27th September - Once again my hair came out feeling greasy and coated. I was starting to feel a little bit hopeful that it may have finally started working but apparently I was wrong.
Conclusion:
I really wanted this method to work! Sadly, it has been rather disappointing and I am ready to move on to a new method. I am tired of looking greasy all the time. I'm finding it really difficult to find easy and cheap alternatives to shampoo now.
Thank you for reading! :)

No Shampoo - Honey, Green tea & Apple Cider Vinegar
I tried this method before the blog so I can't provide a picture sorry!
Recipe:
- 3 cups of warm water (in a measuring jug preferably so all the ingredients can be mixed together)
- 1 green tea bag (soaked in the hot water for 3 minutes before removing.)
- 1 dessert spoon of honey.
- 2 dessert spoons of apple cider vinegar.
Results:
I was looking forward to trying this one because I thought the green tea would be interesting. I'd heard of using different types of tea before depending upon what outcome you wanted, also the recipe is really easy.
Applying it to my hair was as easy as all the other shampoo alternatives I had tried, overall it was quicker though as the apple cider vinegar conditioner was in with the shampoo.
The next day my hair was exactly the same as when I used the honey 'shampoo'. I wasn't sure whether this was due to the 'transition period' or whether it was the honey doing this to my hair.
Conclusion:
I wasn't enjoying the flat, greasy look. Obviously I'm still going to stick to a natural shampoo but I'm going to try just green tea with an apple cider vinegar rinse so that I can eliminate the chance that the honey may be causing the greasy outcome.
This blog will bring me up to date with my routine meaning next time I will be able to provide you with a picture of what the 'shampoo' has done to my hair.
Thank you for reading! :)

No Shampoo - Honey
I tried this method before the blog so once again I won't be able to provide a picture, sorry!
Recipe:
- 1 Tablespoon of natural honey
- 1 Cup of warm water
My Results:
I put the jar of honey in a jug of warm water to make it runny and easy to use. Then I mixed the tablespoon of honey with a cup of warm water, if it looks like all the honey hasn't mix just top up the water until it has. It went onto my hair really easily and I massaged my scalp to help remove the grease. After washing it out I used the apple cider vinegar conditioner from the other blogs. I've kept to the apple cider vinegar conditioner as this is a widely popular conditioner and doesn't seem to be having any negative effects on my hair. The next morning after it had dried my hair seemed greasy. Completely opposite to the last two attempts. I feel like this is the 'transition period' people have been talking about so I decided to carry on with the honey for some more washes.
After a few more washes my hair was still coming out the same. I wasn't impressed with the waxy type finish it was leaving on my hair. The only positive outcome to this method so far is that the ends of my hair are soft and feel healthy. This could be due to the apple cider vinegar conditioner as I increased the amount of apple cider vinegar to 3 tablespoons to 2 cups of water. Due to the greasy look of my hair I may look into trying out some homemade dry shampoo's whilst I'm at it.
Conclusion:
Whilst reading about honey I found that it isn't really classed as a cleanser and more of a soother for the scalp therefore making it good for people with dandruff and scalp conditions. This is making me think that maybe it isn't removing the grease from my hair. It could also be the 'transition period' though so I may come back to this method as honey is really easy to get and cheap!
Thanks for reading! :)

No Shampoo - Rye Flour
After the disaster with the baking soda I decided to try the rye flour method. Rye flour is super cheap however I could only find it at Asda.
As before, I did this method before I started the blog therefore I won't be able to provide pictures, sorry!
Recipe:
- 3-4 tablespoons of rye flour.
- Mix in a measuring jug with enough water to make it 'resemble the thickness of shampoo'.
- I used the apple cider vinegar recipe used in the previous post for the conditioner.
My Results:
Although it said in the instructions to mix until there are no lumps left, rye flour is actually really bitty making this impossible. I carried on anyway and applied the porridge like mixture to my wet hair. I attempted to massage it in a little bit and then proceeded to wash it out. This is where I started to freak out a little. There were lots of little grainy pieces still in my hair and they were not coming out. After a pretty violent rinsing session I applied the apple cider vinegar rinse and then got out. Thankfully once my hair dried and I brushed it all of the pieces in my hair seemed to have gone. I did find dry flour everywhere afterwards though. It's a rather messy shampoo. Sadly my hair condition seemed to be exactly the same as when I used the baking soda. It was difficult to brush and the ends were like straw.
Conclusion:
Although it says on the sites not to give up with these shampoo alternatives I can't help but think that these outcomes are definitely not right. However, the PH level of rye flour doesn't do any damage to the hair so maybe if I can't find any other alternatives that work I may try to return to this method for a week or so to see if that makes any difference. If I do, I will definitely blog about it. For now though, I am moving on from this method.

No Shampoo - Baking soda
For a reference I have long hair that is medium thickness and a reasonable condition. It isn't dry but it isn't overly greasy either.
So the first thing I tried was baking soda. If you go on any site this is what they will immediately recommend. I did this about a month ago before I started the blog so sadly I won't be able to provide a photo for this method, sorry!
Recipe used: - 1 dessert spoon of baking soda (couldn't find a tablespoon, most do say tablespoon though)
- An empty shampoo bottle full of water. (Although it said 1 part baking soda to 3 parts water is was very grainy and I felt like it was too much so I added more water)
- 1 desert spoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in a shampoo bottle of water.
(For a conditioner)
My Result:
When putting it onto my hair it was very grainy. I massaged it into my scalp as instructed and then washed it out. I then applied the apple cider vinegar rinse and washed this out. I allowed my hair to air dry completely overnight and then looked at the results in the morning. When I started brushing my hair I found it really difficult to get the brush through in one stroke even though there was no visible knots. The ends of my hair looked and felt like straw and when I attempted to put it back into a pony tail it looked like my hair was just a bush. I decided to plait it to tackle the issue instead.
The next night:
I washed my hair again the next night using less baking powder to the bottle of water and more apple cider vinegar to the bottle of water as I read somewhere that if your hair becomes very dry you have probably used too much baking soda. The results were exactly the same.
Conclusion:
Although all sites say that there is a transition period they describe this as your hair becoming greasy easily as it is still over producing grease. There is no explanation for the straw like results I got. I was very upset by this as my hair looked awful and was unmanageable. I decided to do some further research for other alternatives as I didn't want to put my hair through any more of this torture.
* However, I must say as I see it on all of the sites I go on, all hair is different and some people seem to have found the baking soda method to be successful *
Whilst looking for other methods I could use I came across this site that gave a really good explanation as to why baking soda is actually a dreadful thing to use on your hair > http://blog.kanelstrand.com/2014/01/baking-soda-destroyed-my-hair.html

No Shampoo - Intro
First off, let me please get it out there and say this is my first attempt at a blog so please be kind. I've never had anything to blog about and frankly I kind of wish I had something like this to refer to when I first started.   The whole 'No Shampoo' thing is pretty big. It's the idea that shop bought shampoo's screw up your hair meaning it gets greasy really quickly. So to avoid this people change to natural methods of washing their hair which after a transition period will eventually mean you'll be able to go a few days without washing your hair and it wont get greasy. If you want a more detailed description give it a quick Google, I know when I was looking for shampoo alternatives I got bored of reading through the same introduction on every webpage! I'm also trying to keep it short!
I started researching this about a month ago and found a handful of shampoo alternatives, however each site had a different view on these. Some condemned the traditional method of baking soda (which you'll hear loads about if you research it -_-) whilst others offered 'easy' methods that required 20 herbs which frankly, in England I haven't got a clue where to get a hold of cheaply!
So, on here I'm going to try and track my attempts and what it does to my hair so that hopefully someone won't have to waste as much time as I did!  Thanks!
