I think along side this on the Jayson being Experimented on. I think his new fire abilities being similar to that of a Fire Genasi is interesting considering his family is, as far as we know, human.

Hey, hi guys. Real quick before I continue, spoilers for JWRI Riptide episode 114, but uhhhhh

IS FUCKING DREY A GOD DAMN DOPPELGANGER?!?

Sorry, sorry, but !!!!

Because let me tell you, when listening to Jay's grandma talk on the shell about the Black Sea project, I was extremely confused why the fuck she mentioned her son.

"The machine is stable. My son is stable..."

I originally thought of Jayson. Made sense to me, the guy was really pissed the last time we saw him and I sometimes forget that Drey is also a Ferin, so stable in my mind was mental health wise. Then I was thinking about it, and realized her son's mental health had nothing to do with the project so why the fuck would she mention it in her log. AND THEN my brother (who recommended JRWI to me) that had the "oh shit it's probably Drey" moment and honestly, he's probably fucking right!

Drey, who has memory problems. Drey, who can't use his arms. Drey, WHO HAS BEEN THERE THE WHOLE TIME!

And with Dopple Gillion, we know that the clone has some of the memories of the other person and the somewhat the same abilities, so it makes sense that we wouldn't know Drey was a fake, if he is a fake.

I still kinda think it might be Jayson. The clones can be somewhat manipulated. If the real Jayson was dead/dying, it would make sense that his mom would just clone her son. The perfect soldier. I mean, the guy had been away from his family for a long time. If he came back weird, no one would notice.

Either which way, Jay's fucking grandma experimented on one of her son's. One of the Ferin boys aren't real.

Imagine loving someone so hard it transcends every ounce of logic you have, every belief that used to be the core of who you are. To love is to be changed etc. etc.

Riptide is about love, plain and simple. It's odd and seems disjointed to some, but what the Riptide Pirates have is a bond that can get them through the worst. Grizzly's campaign, at its core, is about people needing other people. We don't choose the circumstances we are born in, but we can make something of it. We can find those people who will help us weather the storms and fight off the nightmares.

During this 6 month hiatus, I have such big plans around transcribing and theory stuff. As I transcribe the episodes I have a huge spreadsheet that I'm going to fill out with all sorts of counts and notes. I'm going to even try to make a YouTube video that runs down what has happened in the show so far and share my theories as well! Just roll with it riptide theory time, spoilers for episode 115, episode 70, and the black rose pirates oneshot

So. This is a very weird one and probably incorrect because i got like 5 hours of sleep last night BUT. It has also been in my mind for like months at this point and I’ve finally figured out some way for it to make sense so here we go!

I believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that Chip is from the hole in the sea. Like literally born from it. His lack of any biological family or even a name until he met Arlin, and captain Rose knowing that Chip would 1. Survive whatever he believed would kill them all and 2. Knowing that Chip would come back to the black sea, as well as the most obvious “Welcome Home” in his head when they went in the hole? Yeah. He is from there.

However, even more in specifically, i dont believe that hes just from the hole, i believe he is part of it. He is connected to it. And ive thought this to some extent since the “fighting chip’s inner demons very literally” scene in episode 70, and more importantly; Arlin in the scene.

Because he does not act like how you would expect a nightmarish version of your father inside your own subconscious to act. He acts scared. He acts surprised that Chip is there. The evil versions of Jay, Ollie, and Gillion are aggressive, instantly striking out against him, but Arlin? He’s scared of Chip. And scared of hurting Chip. He acts almost the same as Chip himself does, trying to reassure himself that this isn’t real, that this is just a nightmare.

And I think that’s because in some fucked up way it really is him.

That that’s not Chip’s subconscious creating a nightmare version of Arlin for him to fight, instead it’s really just him. Arlin, after being in the hole in the sea for over a decade, succumbing to the corruption.

He looks like someone suffering from the black sea’s corruption might look. Black tendrils coming out of where his arm used to be, black liquid dripping out of his eyes… Chip shouldnt be able to make that up in his mind. He hadn’t seen the corruption yet.

And Arlin is terrified. Of Chip. Confused, like he’s the one seeing things, because he thinks that he is. “Is that really you”, “You can hear me”, “You’re here to kill me again”. Those are the words of someone who’s been stuck seeing visions of his son killing him over and over again for a decade, just like he did in the black rose pirates oneshot. That’s not said like a nightmare trying to harm him. They’re said like a man who’s desperately trying to snap himself out of what he believes to be a nightmare.

“I don’t want to hurt you” isn’t said by a nightmare that is trying to trick a person. It’s said by a man who even for a second wants to believe that his son is really there, speaking to him, and in danger of being hurt by corruption that he can’t control.

And like… I’ve thought this for months. But until episode 115 my theory was that Arlin was somehow stuck inside Chip’s mind, living that nightmare of Chip killing him over and over again, but now? I believe that Arlin is absolutely still inside the hole in the sea. It’s just that Chip’s subconscious is connected to it as well.

And how fucked up would that be? That they finally get into the hole in the sea, they finally find Arlin, and instead of him being happy to see Chip, or even him being just straight up dead, he’s instead convinced that Chip is there to kill him. To harm him. That this is just another nightmare. Another vision sent to hurt him.

Like I said i got 5 hours of sleep last night this might not be anything and someone else could probably put this in words that make way more sense but who cares! I am going insane!

I think a lot about how different drey ferin is from his family and why he is that way, especially now that we have the connection that they get their traits from the sun goddess herself.

I think a lot about Drey Ferin who was born with black hair, who's powers never really seemed to work, who decided to hide his glowing eye.

I think a lot about Drey Ferin who was born differently, who doesn't know what he did to deserve this. Who doesn't know what he did to make aster hate him personally. Who wonders if she saw in his soul that he was a fuckup, or if she just didn't care enough; and which one hurts worse.

I think a lot about Drey Ferin who was abandoned by not only his family but also the goddess of the sun, who never got the light in his life. Black hair, blind in one eye, drowned in the darkness and held in a dark cell for 10 years. Drey Ferin who always got the short end of the stick for no other reason than the way he was born.

I think a lot about Drey Ferin, wondering if the hate of his family or the hate of the sun herself hurts worse; wondering which burning will make him light on fire one day. Wondering whether it will hurt less to hate himself or the goddess that made him this way.
