Here’s another image from the Liber Azoth (1613), its title ‘Opus Universum Philosophorum’ (Universal Work of the Philosophers).
We see a large circle containing a seven-pointed star, all inside a triangle. In the triangle’s corners we see the Sun labelled as Anima (Soul), the Moon as Spiritus (Spirit) and a Cube labelled Corpus (Body), respectively relating to Sulphur, Mercury, and Salt. We see the face of an old man in the center of the circle, his feet at the bottom, and his hands stretched out to the side.
The hand on the left is holding a burning candle, linked with the Sun, Sulphur, and Fire. This message is emphasized by the Salamander in flames at the top left of the picture and the King with a fiery Solar halo, sitting on a Lion, with a fire-breathing dragon beneath him, emerging from a cave.
The old man’s other hand holds a vial of liquid, relating to Moon, Mercury, and Water. At the top we see an eagle, most likely a white eagle, which is often connected with Mercury. There is also a Lunar Queen, holding a bow, so clearly intended to represent the goddess Diana, sitting on either a whale or a dolphin, in lots of water.
Looking a the 7-pointed star, we see that each ray is numbered starting from a black ray at the bottom, which has the sign for the planet Saturn/metal Lead. The little square there means Salt, like the Cube below. From Saturn we move to 2. Jupiter, 3. Mars (which also has an alchemical symbol for Sulphur), 4. Sun, 5. Venus, 6. Mercury (which also shows the alchemical symbol for Quicksilver), and 7. Moon. So there we have all the planets/metals, in the sequence of the Ptolemaic cosmos, from the outermost planet to the one closest to the earth.
Around the circumference of the circle we read ‘Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem,’ i.e. the VITROL acrostic: ‘Visit the Interior of the Earth, by Rectification [repeat Distillation] you will find the hidden Stone.’
Here’s some of what the accompanying text says: ‘That Old Man is the first principle revealed by the hermetic art. He’s Sulphur, Salt, Mercury, the below like the above [an allusion to the Emerald Tablet], the star of the Sun, abounding in colors, fire, air, water, and earth, descended from the lineage of Diana and Apollo. It denotes virile fire and air, feminine earth and water, light and heavy in weight, stable, constant, and ‘fugitive’ [volatile].’
Here’s what it says about the seven small images in circles in the large circle:
‘The first bird is a black raven [perched on a skull, so a nigredo image]
it flies to a [bird’s] corpse
from which a white dove comes forth and
subsequently a red bird. Therefore first spiritually extinguish the raven, so that
all the colors emerge
The unicorn rests, the Moon existing in a bodily state, prepares the way to the King, a whitish silver emerges
The King follows this, red, solitary, so far, but most pure, which if you lead it with its mother through all the kingdoms [animal, vegetable, and mineral], its value will multiply tenfold, and with its siblings it will provide riches and infinite rewards’

This is the third of four large engravings from Stephen Michelspacher’s ‘Cabala. Spiegel der Kunst unnd Natur in Alchymia’ (Cabala, Mirror of Art and Nature in Alchemy, 1615): 3. Middle: Conjunction, the union of opposing principles, sometimes described as the Chemical Wedding.
In the foreground we see two men, one busy sending a ferret or weasel down a rabbit hole. A rabbit dashes past the other more fancily dressed man, who is blindfolded, presumably because he is ignorant of the correct way to proceed in creating the Philosopher’s Stone. There is possibly an implied alchemical pun here, with Lepus (Rabbit/Hare) sound like Lapis (Stone).
Behind is a building carved out of the front of a mountain, its entrance reached by a flight of 8 steps, 7 of which are labelled with the names of alchemical processes - the lowest, Calcination, when the starting substance is burned black (the nigredo stage); the highest of that the successful production of the Tincture, used to ‘color’ metals so that they became gold, but also a medicine for humans. Sitting opposite one another on benches close to the entrance is a naked king with an equally unclothed queen, holding a plant bearing three flowers. Seven lattice windows let in light (presumably of the 7 planets), and an alchemical furnace stands at the very back of the room. On the roof cupola we see the images of the Sun and Moon, corresponding to the king and queen below. Above them stands a huge, impressive bird with outstretched wings and a crown on its head, most likely a phoenix, symbol of the successful completion of the alchemical Opus.
7 figures stand on the outside of the mountain. These represent the seven planets and their corresponding metals. On the left, moving up, we see Venus-Copper (with a burning heart); Mars - Iron (wielding a sword); Sun - Gold (holding a scepter); on the right, Saturn - Lead (with a wooden leg holds a scythe and contemplates swallowing an infant); Jupiter - Tin (waves around a scepter and wields his thunderbolts); and the Moon - Silver (appears as Diana with her spear and hunting horn). At the summit, the god Mercury - Quicksilver balances on a fountain, a star in one hand, his caduceus in the other. Mercury, the ‘Water that does not we the hands’, represents the primal matter from which all other metals can be made.
The five letters beneath the fountain VWIWV are the initial letters of the phrase ‘Unser Wasser ist Wasser Unser’ (Out Water [Mercury] is our Water). The Zodiac encircling all this is not in its standard sequence, but rather the signs are placed according to which god/planet is standing nearby. Venus on the bottom left is close to the signs Taurus and Libra, both of which she rules. Mars is next to his traditional signs of Scorpio and Aries; the Sun with Leo, and so forth.
As this is a book on alchemy, Michelspacher has linked each sign with a different alchemical substance. Scorpio, for instance, with its nasty sting is suitably connected with Vitrol and acid; while the Ram of the first fire sign Aries is associated with fiery Sulphur. Standing outside this rearranged Zodiac are four circles bearing the names of the four elements: Aquae - Water, Ignis - Fire, Aeris - Air, and Terrae - Earth; the ‘higher’ of the elements of Fire and Air at the top of this engraving.

Magnum Opus
The Magnum Opus, or Great Work, is a term used to signify the creation of the philosopher’s stone. Symbolic of personal and spiritual transmutation.
To achieve The Great Work, 12 stages or alchemical processes are described. Traditionally, however, there were only four.
Nigredo - Black: putrefaction or decomposition. In this stage, matter and ego are broken down to their most primal states.
Albedo - White: purification or the washing away of impurities. In order for this stage to be effective, blackness was necessary to reveal each impurity.
Citrinitas - Yellow: “transmutation of silver to gold”; “yellowing of the lunar consciousness”. For the ego, the lunar light is left behind and gives way for the higher, solar light. A spiritual awakening.
Rubedo - Red: This is the end of the process, the completion of the philosopher’s stone, merging of the ego and Self. Oneness.
Through continued research, alchemists elaborated on the four original processes and came up with up to 12 steps in the entire phenomena, sometimes only represented in 7 steps. The extended research includes:
Calcination
Dissolution
Separation
Conjunction
Putrefaction*
Congelation*
Cibation*
Sublimation*
Fermentation
Exaltation*
Multiplication*
Projection*
*In the seven step process, these steps are omitted and fermentation is followed by Distillation and then Coagulation.

The cosmic cycle of Brahma Chakra
It’s the cycle of creation from Purusha and Prakrti to the Maha Gunas and Maha’tattva, Aham’tattva, citta to the Pancha Maha Bhuta then up through the process of evolution until conscientiousness finds expression in the human being who realizes the supreme and ultimately merges back into consciousness (Purusha) again.

Yesterday was the Summer Solstice (Litha) It is the longest day of the year, it won't get dark until very late into the night, there will be at least 15/16 hours of daylight. Litha is a time of light, purification and of healing. Its a time to reflect on the light and dark that are both within each of us and within the world around us. It is a time to appreciate everything we have in our lives and to give thanks for it, to appreciate nature and all that it gives us. Have a Blessed Summer Solstice! The Divine Feminine is the receptive quality of consciousness. She embodies the mystery of creation as someone who can bring life. The Divine Feminine quality, even in men, understands that we are all one, that we are all connected. She is connected to her natural cycles and rhythms instead of the rigid systems imposed upon the Earth. She is an awakening force of good on a planet that needs healing. Massive Solar Flare Cracks Earths Magnetic Field
Tumblr media
The magnetic field that protects Earth from deadly cosmic radiation may be more vulnerable than previously thought.
A crack in the shield caused by a solar flare which exposed the planet to a bombardment of radiation has been detected.
Researchers from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in India made the discovery when analyzing a galactic cosmic ray burst that caused radio blackouts across North and South America and a supercharged aurora borealis in 2015.
The cosmic ray source was a giant solar plasma cloud that traveled 40 hours from our sun to reach Earth, where the researchers believe it caused a transient “weakening of Earth’s magnetic shield”, according to their findings published in the journal Physical Review Letters.
Earth’s magnetosphere extends over a radius of a million kilometers, which acts as the first line of defense, shielding us from the continuous flow of solar and galactic cosmic rays, thus protecting life on our planet from these high intensity energetic radiations.
Solar storms can cause major disruption to human civilization by crippling large electrical power grids, global positioning systems (GPS), satellite operations and communications.
The GRAPES-3 muon telescope, the largest and most sensitive cosmic ray monitor operating on Earth is playing a very significant role in the study of such events. This recent finding has generated widespread excitement in the international scientific community, as well as electronic and print media.

We Probably Don't Need To Worry About A Solar Superflare
Fresh research has revealed that powerful solar storms known as "superflares" are generated via the same process as common solar flares produced by our Sun. These superflares are capable of posing a significant threat to our advanced technology, and seriously harming Earth's protective ozone layer.
Here is the image of a solar prominence captured by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory in 2012 (Credit: NASA/SDO/AIA/Goddard Space Flight Center)
Tumblr media
Earth's atmosphere is bombarded by charged particles from the Sun on a constant basis. Periodically, our star throws off what is known as a solar flare. Most of the time the only visible effect of these solar storms are stunning aurora that manifest around Earth's higher latitudes. However, one event in mankind's recorded history highlighted the significance of the threat posed by powerful solar activity.
On Sept. 2, 1859, Earth's magnetic field was struck with the first particles cast out by a titanic solar storm that had exploded from our Sun the previous day. The interference caused by the event threw the worldwide telegraph network into disarray, and based on ice core samples retrieved from Greenland, caused significant damage to Earth's protective ozone layer. The powerful storm is now referred to as the Carrington Event.
Should such an eruption occur today, its ability to interfere with our electronics and power supplies would cause a far greater amount of damage owing to our complete reliance on technology in almost every facet of our lives.
Solar flares are releases of magnetic energy from the sun's atmosphere. Sometimes — but not always — they bombard Earth with high-energy plasma. Superflares are the same principle, just bigger.
Researchers started cataloguing them with the Kepler space telescope a few years ago. They're easy to spot, even on distant stars, since they crank out about 10,000 times more energy than normal flares.
And in a new study published in Nature, researchers say the sun is capable of emitting a superflare of its own — even if that's unlikely.
Most superflares come from stars that are more magnetically active than our home star, but about 10 percent of the superflare examples researchers analyzed came from stars with similar or even weaker fields.
The closest thing we've ever seen to a superflare from the sun is probably the Carrington Event.
In 1859, the sun launched a flare so energetic it damaged Earth's ozone layer and set telegraph offices on fire.
Experts say a flare that powerful today could do billions of dollars in long-term damage to satellite networks and electrical transformers. Those aren't the sort of things we keep plenty of spares for.
And Carrington was a relatively weak example compared to the energies involved in superflares.
The good news, according to the researchers, is our solar activity records show these events only come along every millennium or so. What's more, we would probably see unprecedented sunspot activity beforehand, so at least we'd know it's coming.
So there's nothing to worry about. even if it strikes earth, the magnetosphere will protect us.

FULL MOON WITH A LUNAR ECLIPSE TONIGHT! MARCH 22-23, 2016.
Right on the heels of the Spring Equinox where we honor new beginnings and birth, comes the full moon with the second eclipse to inspire and energize us with fullness and power. This is a good time to reflect on anything new that has come into your life; relationships, partnerships, good fortune, big choices, business, projects, health, healers, challenges of any kind, or any new environments.  What is it that they need at this time? How can you support them so they have the best possible chance of manifesting in a good way?
The full moon is always a time for gratitude and a time for seeing your life as full. If anything you are doing or experiencing feels less than full of what it needs, this is a good time to ask spirit for help. Whether it is love, support, health, stamina, energy, knowledge, direction, rest, inspiration, intimacy, excitement, trust or peace, ask and you shall receive.
We are also still in the influence of the Equinox. So if you have not yet spent any time in contemplation of new intentions, it is not too late. You may also be in the process of completing something to make room for that new seed you are planting. Remember also that this is a time of collaboration and community support, so always include how others can participate in your dreams.
Full Moon Blessings!
Namaste.

March 23: First Lunar Eclipse of 2016
Observant people in North America and the Pacific will see a very, very subtle partial penumbral eclipse of the moon on the morning of March 23, 2016. The blazing planet Jupiter will be nearby. Western North America and Hawaii have the eclipse taking place in the nighttime sky from start to finish.
Other regions having all or part of the eclipse going on while the moon is above the horizon include much of Asia, Australia, New Zealand, much of South America, the Caribbean, Indian Ocean, the Arctic and Antarctica. If you live in Asia, Australia or New Zealand, the eclipse happens on the evening of March 23.
The moon will look plenty full as it lights up the eastern sky at nightfall March 22, but it’ll actually be a waxing gibbous moon. The moon turns precisely full on March 23 at 12:01Universal Time. At U.S. time zones, that translates to 8:01 a.m. EDT, 7:01 a.m. CDT, 6:01 a.m. MDT and 5:01 a.m. PDT.
If you’re on the nighttime side of the world when the moon turns full, you might notice the very faint penumbral shadow of the Earth falling on the southern portion of the moon’s disk, as illustrated below.
From all time zones in contiguous North America, you’ll want to look for the eclipse shortly before dawn breaks.
Tumblr media
You may not detect any shadow on the moon, even if you’re viewing it at the moment of its deepest eclipse on March 23 at 11:47 Universal Time (4:47 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time).
That’s because a penumbral eclipse is a very subtle kind of eclipse.
Observant people will notice the shadow!
Others will stand looking at it and say they can’t see it at all.
