DAY 21 - 2:36 pm
Thank you ‘Ole Kirk Christiansen’ for taking us a whole 6328,9 km through the blistering heat of The Upington - Springbok route, all the way through the meanders of the stunning Franshoek mountains, under and over countless bridges and most importantly home safely. What an experience
All rise and shine at 7:00 for an early start to get back into Piet Retief for another tyre change, to a damaged tyre! We spent a while looking for a tyre, to no avail. I went to the family after all this craziness for a quick visit to Wimpy. We then decided to put the tyre in God’s hands. The tyre was not in a great condition, but we set out from Piet Retief to Nelspruit, 300km away.
Devan was a champion, because after not coming right in Badplaas, we pushed through to Nelspruit, where Dev had organised us a tyre! We serve an awesome God! The tyre lasted and we were able to see the special scenery of the Eastern Transvaal. We drove through Barberton, the stunning forests of pine! The view at times was spell-binding.
In Nelspruit, we were helped by Neil and the awesome team at HI-Q Riverside, and in a jiffy we were en route to Pilgrim’s Rest. We spent a while there and did some shopping. It’s good to see that it seems to be thriving. Then onto Graskop to Harrie’s Pancakes! Of course, it was as good as always!
Then onto our base for the night - Merry Pebbles Caravan Park in Sabie. It is a stunning caravan park on the outskirts of Sabie. It’s so peaceful and spacious. The boys swam in the cold and hot water pools, while Jay, Kerynn and I played ”More Trivia” - then it was onto a serious game of ”Munchkin” for Dev, Aidy and Kerynn!
DAY 20 The route travelled from Piet Retief en route to Sabie, with a stop at Pilgrimsrest and Graskop’s famous ‘Harries Pancakes’, with a last stop at Merry Pebbles resort
DAY 20 - 3:45 pm
As always little Pilgrimsrest was an absolute gem. Never fails to be a real ‘miners town’ to this day.
Here the history runs deep - along with the Gold that was once hunted
Again, early to rise in the morning, as I needed to clean the van. After a good wash and shave it was inside to wake the troops and get moving. After a hearty breakfast from Ang, it was all aboard for the next leg to Piet Retief!
We had an amazing drive through Zululand and then in Ulundi we had tyre trouble - another flat tyre! After a detour into Ulundi for repairs, we then continued on through Vryheld and then into Piet Retief!
We arrived at ”Sundowner Lodge and Caravan Park” for our lay over, and the rest for preparation for our adventure into Eastern Transvaal Sabie, God’s Window and Graskop.
