That Doesn’t Count (Gao Shi De x Zhou Shu Yi) wbl: no1 for you ficlet
That was not a first kiss!
The idea that Shi De thought what happened in the pool was worthy of being a first kiss, though flattering and kind of adorable, was more than a little heartbreaking. Shu Yi hadn’t even kissed him back and Shi De was out here thinking that was his first freaking kiss! What?!
Why would he count that? It didn’t count!
He was sad and sorry and worked up and torn apart all at once thinking that Shi De was just fine with that being his first kiss. Shu Yi was offended on his behalf and then the part of himself that Shu Yi was most familiar with, took over. The part that knew rivalry and the urge to do better, try harder, be greater, the part that had been competing with Shi De their whole lives, couldn’t just let this all slide. Not as someone who liked Shi De and definitely not as Gao Shi De’s first kiss! He had standards and if that meant he had to impose them on Gao Shi De in this instance, to change his sweet, simple mind, then so be it.
This was personal now and Zhou Shu Yi knew he could do a lot better than that.
It was a really good thing that Shu Yi was as competitive as he was because that meant he didn’t even consider any other alternative to that idea. He had to prove Shi De wrong.
He couldn’t let him think that was his first kiss. He wasn’t a monster.
I’ll show him.
I’ll give him the best damn first kiss ever and then he’ll see how silly he was being! Yes, okay.
“That doesn’t count,” his voice remained steady even though it wanted to break over the words that threatened to tear his sanity to pieces.
Shi De blinked at him, all confused, gentle innocence, before his eyes bugged as Shu Yi pulled him in to kiss him again.
It was thrilling how easily, how quickly Shi De fell into him, lips moving with his like they’d been doing this for years, and it was awe inspiring how he followed where Shu Yi led him, pulled forward, tipped sideways, kissing him back eagerly.
Shu Yi would admit that it was way better this time than just a few moments ago, it was softer, smoother and more amazing because Shi De was involved. He was kissing him back! This was a first kiss, this was much, much better, he could count this one.
Shu Yi was glad that Shi De admitted his thoughts about that day in the pool because it led to this and this was amazing.
Everything about it was amazing.
Shi De’s hair was so soft, and his skin was so warm, he tasted sort of salty but a little minty too, and his back was so firm and broad, leeching heat into his fingers where Shu Yi had his hand to keep him right where he was. He was confident that Shi De wasn’t going anywhere now though, he wasn’t upset with him, he wasn’t lost or scared or nervous, he was his and he was kissing him back. Because he liked him. Because he wanted to. Because this was what they both wanted.
This was definitely what Shu Yi wanted, his fingertips tracing along the warm shell of Shi De’s ear before brushing back into his hair and down the back of his neck.
This bright, triumphant thing expanded behind his ribs, when Shi De tipped back the tiniest bit, mouth open under his while Shu Yi’s lips closed over his bottom lip, he got to kiss Gao Shi De. Happiness surged inside him at the thought, he got to do this, no one else, just him, Zhou Shu Yi. He sighed as warmth spread out under Shi De’s hand that curled around his shoulder and pulled him closer. His hands were so big and so gentle while they roamed all over his back, along his waist, up his spine to each of shoulders and down again, like he didn’t know where to put them or wanted them everywhere all at once. Shu Yi could understand that, he felt that on a very deep, very personal level because he too wanted Shi De all over him, all at once. He didn’t want this to ever end.
But what other amazing things were waiting for them once they came up for air?
The possibilities were endless, and the thoughts were making him giddy till he smiled into Shi De’s kisses, smiling wider when a strangled noise left the others’ mouth as he pressed even closer.
Shu Yi wasn’t sure how long they stood there under the streetlights, with tear tracks drying on their skin, kissing but he’d admit to wanting to dive right back in when Shi De sighed out through his nose, pulling back a breath to lay their foreheads together. He’d give him a minute though, if he needed it.
A smile stretched across his face as he calmed down, lungs stinging from the lack of oxygen, heart singing in his chest and head buzzing with endorphins and happiness and sparks of light and love and the memory of the breathless laugh Shi De had let out when he realized Shu Yi wasn’t messing with him.
He brushed his fingers down the back of Shi De’s head, other arm curling around his shoulder as both Shi De’s hands settled around his waist.
“Does that count?” Shi De asked quietly, sounding breathless and a little shell-shocked. Shu Yi blinked till he could focus on the other, put enough space between them to see him, saw the most beautiful, honest smile on Shi De’s face, eyes bright with something Shu Yi had never seen in them before.
He laughed, nodding as he nudged closer to him, “that one counts,”
Of course, that one counts, it was so much better!
Shi De pulled back some more to lift one hand between them. Shu Yi sucked in a breath when his fingers brushed across his cheek, under one eye then the other. Shi De stared at him a few moments before clearing his throat, “do you wanna get something to eat?”
“Yeah,” Shu Yi smiled at the way Shi De seemed to deflate, entire being relaxing at his agreement. It made Shu Yi stare after him while he turned to pick up his bag, shifted around him to pick up Shu Yi’s too. He slung them both over his shoulder then stopped, caught him watching him.
When he inclined his head back over his shoulder, in the direction he’d been heading before Shu Yi got his hands on him, Shu Yi took a step to follow him. They walked side by side quietly for a few paces till Shu Yi reached out to take his hand. Because he could and because he wanted to and because he was on cloud nine and didn’t feel right now that he wasn’t connected to Shi De in some way. The move seemed to startle Shi De but not for long before he turned his hand to thread their fingers together.
Shu Yi could get used to this. All of it, kissing and holding hands and having feelings that were shared, yeah, he could definitely get used to this.
~
~ a/n: so I love these two and i love this show so much, i’ve been watching this show since the start and was inspired to contribute to the fandom when I watched it start to take off some more. Yeah, so this is silly and pointless and possibly ooc (i’m still figuring out their characters) and might not make any sense but I loved the way Shu Yi looked after the kiss and was like ‘bwah Shi De are you for serious? you’re lucky you’re cute!’ that was so freaking cute of him!
I have more so if you liked it stay tuned, i got lots of ideas and i can’t sleep anyway so might as well write! <3 ~
