Maybe you, I and the fish only exist in the memory of a person who is long gone. Maybe no one really exists and it’s only raining outside.

(I'm not criticizing, just baffled? To be fair I've only finished the book, maybe the drama adds something there??)

Both Lan Wangji and Wen Ning read as very autistic to me, with a lot of reasons for both of them (although Wen Ning's is... aquired through soul-snatching, so maybe an autistic cousin?) and I think they're really interesting examples of what people talk about when it comes to the environment being what disables you.
LWJ was born somewhere pretty perfect for an autistic kid. He's the ideal Lan disciple for a long time. He adheres rigidly to the rules -- great! There are thousands! He's very strict about his routine -- well, that's exactly what Cloud Recesses is all about! He doesn't talk very much but that's okay; there's probably a rule somewhere about too much speech. He speaks much more formally than most people -- just shows how respectful he is. He's smart and follows directions well; he gives textbook-perfect answers to the questions he's asked. He knows exactly what he's supposed to do, and he does it, because it's the right thing to do. Yes he plays the guqin all the time, but that's diligence. No, he doesn't let people touch him or touch anyone in return, but there will at least be no concerns about his purity. He has almost no facial expressions, but excessive displays of emotion are also prohibited.
Sure, he doesn't have any friends, and Lan Xichen worries about that, but he's such a model of discipline and respect! If he had friends they'd probably interfere with his duties. And sure, there was that thing with his mother's house -- it would have been nice if he had listened, but grief makes everyone strange. There are worse things to do when grieving, besides sit perfectly still outside an empty house every month. It's a little worrying, how stubborn he is about not listening to people telling him he should go home, but he's so perfect in every other way. It's not a problem. It won't be a problem.
Then of course he decides to only follow the rules he thinks are just and righteous, and he is very, very sure of himself, and that stubbornness becomes much less appealing. But that's later. For quite a while, almost two decades, Lan Wangji is the perfect Lan disciple because he's autistic.
Wen Ning, on the other hand, was not born in an accommodating environment.
People around him are loud, and mean, which frightens him. He has skills, but he can never perform them adequately in front of other people, because they are loud, and mean. He speaks softly, and stutters a bit -- most Wens, even his sister, yell or at the very least speak fiercely.
He's not good at standing up for himself. People see him as weak. He doesn't have any friends besides his sister, and that makes him weaker -- alliances are important, you know! He's not a warrior, he's kind and gentle and nobody can beat that out of him. He just doesn't fit.
And then he dies and comes back and he's still the same person. He's still kind and gentle, and conversations are difficult, but also -- he's a fierce corpse now. He's going to win most fights he gets into, but most importantly -- Wei Wuxian is there, and Wei Wuxian loves him very much, and is his friend, and Wen Ning has a very convenient override -- if it's to protect someone he loves, he CAN do things in front of an audience. He CAN be competent in public. In a way becoming visibly physically different from most people seems almost freeing to him.
They're both very different flavors of autistic, definitely, but also the way the environment they grew up in reacted to that autism is I think equally important to varying reactions to it.
