Your art is awesome! What do you recommend for reference when drawing your goopy/fleshy creatures? I've been wanting to draw horror art myself but I struggle with painting texture.
Thank you very much! ^^ For reference, pics of eyes and mouths (animal and human), slimy beasties like snails and deep sea creatures, and translucent materials like slime or jelly are good entry level subjects that don't need a high constitution score too look at :P Falling further down the rabbit hole - raw meat isn't too bad, and yes I do have a folder of medical images, wet specimens and general grossness but it isn't 100% necessary. It also contains random stuff like fruit, because the inside of this fig looks like some eldritch horror shit -
Human skin is pretty useful to know how to paint, and there are a lot of tutorials out there - it's surprisingly translucent, and the way light moves through it (sub surface scattering) is VERY useful in getting depth in your fleshy materials.
Learning to make something look wet and reflective in general is also very helpful, and the basic principles of how light acts on reflective objects will transfer over to whatever horrible, slimy gore you want to paint.
Rambled a lil bit there, but hopefully that gives you some ideas XD Oh also I found a rough and janky breakdown of how I do eyes, it's really old but it gives you an idea of how I make the thing shiny.
