Weird how this post popped up in my timeline when I was needing encouragement to go full obsessed weirdo with my own ocs 👍

I had so many ocs. I used to draw them all the time. I wrote about them. It made me proud. But I stopped because no one ever wanted to see them or hear about them and when I posted art of them or chatted about them with my friends no one ever seemed to notice or care. It felt empty. So I stopped and then I stopped thinking about them and I can barely remember them now. I don't know if I still have ocs.

yo listen listen………make ocs for yourself. make self-inserts and mary sues and create the stupidest stories for them. if your friends dont care about them: a) they’re shitty friends find new ones b) your ocs’ worth doesn’t rely on whether people seem interested or not. make endless content about them, make it dramatic and silly and funny and a top 10 anime betrayals youtube music video in the 2009s with angel of darkness playing in the background. i guarantee you if you keep creating content for them and posting it (either online or in the general vicinity of your friends or BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) people will start getting curious and want to interact

I feel like I’m starting from square one when I paint something personal. For a long time now I’ve just been doing portrait studies, but I want to try and stretch myself a little bit more and this is that first step! I’m going to be doing some really self-indulgent stuff with my two original characters Izzy and Jasper, from my own story. I do have trouble finishing big pieces but I really want to start doing more Snapshot style drawings- get a bit looser with things, not take it quite so seriously when I mess up.... not everything has to be perfect 🖤
