Age: 32/1000+ ...Elijah's appearance is that of a human who is somewhere between the ages of 28-32. He is, however, well over 1000 years old.

Where did they come from: Mystic Falls technically, which was considered The New World when he was born and raised. He recently lived in New Orleans with his family but has since been forced to relocate once more.
How do they usually dress: With an air of sophistication, always. Generally Elijah will be seen dressed in a sharp looking suit, but otherwise he keeps things clean and casual while still dressing to impress. Greys and black, and muted shades of blue are his most often chosen colors.
What do they wear to sleep: Generally, either nothing or a pair of casual grey slacks and occasionally a shirt.
Do they wear jewelry: Yes, Elijah wears his daylight ring on his left middle finger.
Is there anything about their appearance they wish they could change: No, I generally don't believe Elijah would change anything superficial about himself.
What do they smell like: Like a faint woodsy blend of vetiver, benzoin, sandalwood, and cedar... and a fresh hint of mint on occasion.
Why (do they wear the scent or does it occur naturally): Elijah generally enjoys keeping a well manicured appearance, and oftentimes spritzes on Hugo Dark Blue cologne.
Do they have an accurate mental picture of their appearance (how they see themselves versus how the world sees them): Physically, I do believe Elijah has a good grasp of what he actually appears like outwardly... however emotionally, and mentally, his image is often not quite as stellar as everyone else's. He oftentimes feels as though he's failed, or as though he doesn't deserve happiness... as if somehow, underneath it all, he's not good enough... that his existence in someone else's life will only lead to pain and suffering for all involved.
I do believe the world generally tends to view Elijah more favorably as a person than Elijah has ever viewed himself... after all, he's never really forgiven himself for the horrible things that'd happened in his past.

[Elijah stood in the darkness of the compound's gathering room, his mind racing in an uncharacteristic fashion while he attempted to mull over the details of what'd just occurred earlier in the day. Hayley had been hurt, that much he knew for certain... but what he couldn't quite pin down was what he was even remotely capable of doing to banish it. He hated to see Hayley in pain, especially when it was due to his own negligence or missteps. She didn't deserve to be caught up in the middle of his family's petty quarrels, but she was caught up in it all the same. The least he figured he could do was look after her to be certain she'd be alright. He found it odd that he hadn't heard her come down from upstairs like she'd said she would before he left.
Wandering over toward the staircase, Elijah thought momentarily about going back up to check on her... to be sure nothing had happened to her in the wake of that morning's disaster. That's when he heard the strange noise coming from the kitchen.
Cereal. Hayley was the only one in the compound who'd possibly be pouring cereal. She must have snuck past him somehow while he was lost in his thoughts, he imagined.
Not wanting to invade her privacy but needing to be sure of her safety all the same, Elijah started off toward the kitchen and froze in his tracks as she came into view.
Were those tears streaming down from her eyes?
With the distance between them, he couldn't be absolutely sure, but he decided he'd speak up to try and test the waters between them a bit.]
Hayley... are you alright?
[He couldn't stand it when they were fighting, if what'd occurred between them earlier in the day could even be qualified as such. It was the one time he felt woefully inadequate in his protection of her, and just the thought of it shook him up more than he cared to admit.
After all, what good was he to her if he couldn't even protect her from himself?]

[ Hayley walked into the kitchen, she’d been reading in Klaus’ study for about an hour, avoiding Elijah at all costs. Typical Hayley, fucking up what little relationships she had. She always did this. Elijah was perfectly kind to her, he cared for her and she ruined it.
She’d hid it out long enough, but now her stomach was growling with hunger so she huffed, closing the book and leaving Klaus’ study. She was mad with herself, upset that she’d potentially ruined whatever it was she had with Elijah. He just wanted to look out for her, and she couldn’t just leave it at that. She reached the kitchen without being seen by any of the Original siblings and opened the fridge, pulling out the milk and then going to the cupboard, pulling out the cereal box. ]
Hayley, get your shit together
[ She whispered to herself, but her voice broke mid-sentence. She began tipping the cereal into the bowl, trying to distract herself. But tears found their way out of her eyes, falling down her cheeks and ridiculous speed. What the hell was wrong with her? How did he have this hold on her? ]

Okay, honestly? Rebekah? I love you bby, but SHUT THE HELL UP >.< You're starting to border on Caroline levels of dickishness with the stuff that's flying out of your mouth, ugh.
I've seen people saying all over the place that they loved that Rebekah put Elijah in his place for being a hypocrite but honestly? He's not a fucking hypocrite. What exactly has he done lately to forsake his family? Where has he given in and chosen what HE'S wanted over what he knew was right by Klaus?

Like... I'm sorry. I want Rebekah to be happy. I do. I really really do. But for the love of all things sacred PLEASE STOP MAKING HER BE SUCH A WHINY ENTITLED BITCH. That's so beneath her character that it's sickening to even see at this point.
How is her harassing Elijah about his feelings for Hayley any different than Klaus harassing her for her feelings for Marcel? Just... UGH. I get Rebekah's frustrated. I get that she's pissed off. I get that she wants to be happy. BUT SHE IS NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO'S BEEN MISERABLE FOR COUNTLESS YEARS. She is NOT the only person who's been daggered and shoved in a box. She is NOT the only person who's been affected by Klaus' bullshit, and she is NOT the only person sacrificing shit to keep the family together.
Pretty sure it's canon at this point that Elijah LOVES Hayley. He didn't deny it, and the other episode all but spelled it out anyway. I certainly don't see him being HAPPY about it. I certainly don't see him kissing her the way he obviously WANTED to all the times we've seen them THIS FUCKING CLOSE. I see a man who's fucking MISERABLE. Who, despite EVERYTHING IN HIM obviously wanting to do otherwise, keeps turning away someone he loves for the benefit of his family (or what he perceives to be to the benefit of his family).
I SEE A MAN WHO IS choosing his family over love, so I don't know what fucking Elijah Rebekah has been looking at lately... but it's not the same one I know.
Just... UGH.
Let's not even get into the plot holes or the things that continue to make no sense (like "we're vampires, we can't practice magic" and "LOL THE BABY'S 25% WITCH BUT ALSO 25% VAMPIRE!") because honestly I drank too much and it'll just make my head hurt.

I'm not saying she doesn't have reason, but quite honestly... who's the bigger hypocrite there?
Pretty sure bitching about someone backstabbing you and then turning around to backstab them back is more hypocritical than anything Elijah's been doing... ooops.

[Elijah watched as Hayley moved to sit up, a renewed sense of guilt washing over him. The way she was feeling was his fault, and he knew it. He could already see the look of hurt and disappointment in her eyes before she'd turned away from him... could practically feel the awkward sense of tension building between them in a manner that was completely out of his control.
Was he not doing the right thing by her after all? As he looked upon her, her back turned to him as if to shut him out, he found himself questioning his original answer. There was no denying that he felt something toward Hayley... something that extended far beyond the scope of her involvement with his family, and what Andrea meant to them. What had once been little more than an arrangement made to benefit her child had soon become a deep and meaningful bond that Elijah himself didn't fully understand or know how to control.
The one thing he knew for certain was that he'd never meant to hurt Hayley, or to push her away with his lack of answers. If he even knew the truth of where his feelings lay himself, he was far too fearful to even dwell on it for more than a second. Somewhere along the line he'd convinced himself that whatever he was feeling, Hayley would be safer if he didn't pursue it. Now that he saw how broken she'd seemed by his proposed indifference toward her, he couldn't help but wonder if he'd gotten it all wrong.]
Of course, forgive me.
Hayley, I...
[He paused for a moment, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at the sheets where she once lay. He thought momentarily about explaining himself... about taking what he'd said back, and for once being completely honest with her instead of pushing her away. But in the end, he couldn't bear the thought of something happening to her because of his negligence. He decided to soldier on instead.]
I will meet you downstairs when you are finished.

[ He was hesitant to look up at her, but when he did, she saw the usual look. It was like desperation mixed with something else, maybe a wordless apology, she couldn’t tell, but it was the look he always gave her. He asked his question but she didn’t bother to answer because more or less straight after, realisation sunk in and he sighed. Of course he knew what she was talking about, but that didn’t necessary meant he felt the same that she felt for him.
He began to speak again and this time she didn’t want to listen, she sat up straight and shuffled her legs out to the side. He continued to speak but watched her as she did, the blanket dropped and she looked down at her stomach as her feet touched the cold wooden floor of the bedroom. Her baby was the only reason she was in this mess with Elijah, she would never have feelings for him if he wasn’t so kind to her and if he didn’t care so much for her, but she was a part of this fucked up family now, there was no way out. ]
I’d like some privacy to get dressed, please. I’ll be downstairs soon.

Character Meta || Kalijah Headcanon
Alright... I've always held a certain headcanon about Elijah and Katherine in my mind, and if you guys have read through my nav page I'm sure you've probably found my headcanons section and read a little bit about that. But now that I've watched this week's episode of both The Originals and The Vampire Diaries, I just feel the need to expand upon that and run with it.
Note - I am not saying this is absolutely positively how it is in canon. I'm also not saying I hate the ship because in all honesty I don't. I actually ship it myself to some degree. This is just my headcanon and my meta pertaining to what I saw this week along with what I'd already believed in my head. You guys are totally free to agree with me, disagree with me, or not even care at all. Just throwing that out there!
Also I hope meta posts about our characters are okay... I'm sure they are since it's our blog and all, but you never know. I wouldn't want to clutter people's dash with stuff they don't want to see that shouldn't even be there!
Anyway, the meta is under a "read more" simply because some of what's in here could be considered pretty recent spoilers (although very minor ones) if you haven't seen the recent episode of TVD/TO this week. Also I have a really bad tendency of rambling on and on (like right now) and you all don't want a mile long meta on your page I'm sure.
It's always kind of been my belief (as some of you may already know) that Elijah's connection to Katherine has almost always been one of convenience rather than choice. Mind you I'm not saying that he never had feelings of any kind for her... I'm simply saying that what feelings he did have likely stem from one unavoidable fact.
Elijah knew Katherine of all people would likely be safe from his brother Klaus, simply because she already had other circumstances in place that required her to be on the run from him 24/7. This was not an option for her. Klaus was attempting to hunt her down to kill her... and Katherine, being a survivor, fled.
Now Elijah has always appeared to be hesitant to love... not as some kind of a character flaw on his own part necessarily, mind you, but rather due to his brother's tyrannical reign on the family and the curse that followed them thanks to his father. Klaus killed Celeste. Who knows how many other people Elijah may have cared about that were killed by his brother in his time? It was clear when he allowed Hayley into his mind at the end of River in Reverse that he still carries that with him... still believes that he (rather than only his brother) was guilty in Celeste's death. He still fears love on some level, or shuts it out because deep down he's afraid that Klaus will just take that away from him again like he always has... or worse, that someone he loves will suffer on his behalf.
That brings me to my headcanon. Yes, Elijah met Katherine before any of that happened with Celeste... but I have two points to make in relation to that.
When Elijah and Katherine are seen in flashback, Elijah tells Katherine he doesn't believe in love. True, he could be lying at that point as Katherine surmises... but perhaps what he was saying was true at that point in time. Perhaps he did believe in love at one time, but no longer did because of things that'd happened in his life? Or perhaps Elijah (being the mostly kindhearted person he is) cared for Katherine but not necessarily in the way she was projecting... and so that was his attempt to let her down easily.
Again, perhaps Celeste wasn't the first person Elijah had lost and felt responsible for in his life... maybe his love affair with Tatia on some level brought him guilt, and he never again chose to love up until present day.
My point is, especially after this week's episodes of TVD and TO... I just don't believe Elijah ever truly loved Katherine. Or Tatia, more than likely, which was more than likely an infatuation. To me, it seems like Katherine was somewhere in between.
Elijah would have seen someone relatively guilt free to pursue in Katherine - someone he was attracted to, and could fill a role that most people couldn't. She was safer from Klaus than anyone else could have possibly been because she was always on the run from him... and she was good at it. If she was caught and punished, it would have been because of her own personal association with Klaus and not because of Elijah's influence on her. I honestly do think that played a role in their relationship.
She also fit perfectly alongside Elijah's martyr complex, because she was someone who needed protection on some level... someone who needed fixing. If you haven't noticed, Elijah seems drawn to women who are in a bad way or in need of some sort of protection. I kind of think that this stems from his inability to save the people he's lost in his life prior to meeting them. Because he failed to save them, he feels the need to save others.
Remember when Elijah told Elena that his and Katherine's relationship boiled down to them being of mutual use to one another? Yeah, me too.
Remember when Elijah didn't even really seem fazed when he discovered Katherine hadn't been dead all those years and was locked in a tomb? Yeah, me too.
Now what from recent canon do I feel reinforces my headcanon that Elijah never really loved Katherine?
In The Originals, we know for a fact that Elijah was in love with Celeste... that much is obvious, so I'm not even going to get into why that's 100% canon. It just is.
Also in The Originals, we saw Elijah tell Hayley that he's only found love twice in his thousand years of life... and both times he's honored it. We know one was Celeste. That much is obvious. But I really felt like a part of that conversation was Elijah not-so-subtly hinting that he'd honored his promise to Hayley... almost as in a "I honored what we have here, why didn't you?" Like a mild guilt trip, Elijah Mikaelson style. Also as a mirror to Hayley's "I won't choose the dead over the living, so why are you?"
We also see Elijah telling "Sabine" that when you're in love with someone, they have a unique ability to hurt you more than anyone else can... after what'd just happened between Elijah and Hayley, it's a pretty decent assumption that he was talking about her and what she'd done. This indicates that he has feelings for Hayley, but isn't ready to put them into words regardless of the fact that he's aware of them.
At the end of The Originals, we saw the moment Elijah and Hayley shared and Elijah looked scared shitless. To me, that's obviously him realizing how close he just was to giving in to what he's been feeling... to admitting, on some level, that he does in fact love Hayley... and in doing so, putting her in what he perceives to be danger. Repeating a vicious cycle.
In The Vampire Diaries we see Katherine is dying. My old "maybe Elijah doesn't know about it and that's why he's not coming to her bedside" explanation likely doesn't work anymore because Klaus left to see her... Rebekah left to come to Mystic Falls with him... are you really suggesting to me now that Elijah didn't know? Elijah knew, and he chose not to come. And seeing as how he always honors the love he has for someone... yeah, that to me speaks volumes about what his and Katherine's relationship was prior to then. She'd ceased to be of use to him after what'd happened in TVD prior to that, and so they parted ways.
If it wasn't Katherine, it certainly wasn't Tatia... so that leaves only the present. Unless he's suggesting before now he's only found love twice, and now makes three... in which case I'd actually believe it was Tatia over Katherine. It's a lot like Steferine versus Stelena in my mind, but just a lot more complicated... Elijah was drawn to Katherine initially because she looked like Tatia, just like Stefan was drawn to Elena because of Katherine. Add in the martyr complex of Elijah's and the fact that she was the safest choice for him and you've got yourself one big fat relationship of convenience on your hands.
Now... do I have a problem with people shipping Kalijah? No. I actually ship it on some level myself. But do I truly believe Elijah ever loved Katherine? No. I don't believe his feelings for her ever ran as deep as they ran for Celeste, or even as deep as they appear to run for Hayley.
That's just my personal headcanon though, whether I feel like it was all but spelled out this week or not.
In the RP I'd believe he loved Tatia once, because that's kind of fit into his back story from before I joined and I already played it as such when Kendall and I were writing them... but Katherine, I truly don't believe he loved.
Anyway if anyone made it through this monster of a meta, I applaud you! I swear I'll shut up for a while now xD

[Elijah frowned, his eyes lifting to meet hers once more as he watched her speak.]
You thought what, Hayley?
[He sighed, pausing for a moment as he attempted to process the things that were quickly beginning to spin out of control. It was clear to him now what this was about. It wasn't that Hayley wanted him to stop caring. She wanted some sort of confirmation that what they had meant something to him. She wanted to know that she wasn't going crazy... that there was a spark that passed between them every time they talked, or touched, or so much as smiled at one another.
That was just the thing though - Hayley wasn't crazy. She wasn't imagining things. The spark between them was real, and it'd been growing stronger with each passing day... he'd just been too afraid to dwell on it or put it into words.]
Hayley, what I feel for you...
...we can't. You've seen what happens. I will not let my own selfish ways put you in danger.

[ There it was. There was her answer, just in those two words. She flinched and shuffled back. The blanket dropped into a pool under her stomach and she smiled, shaking her head. No, of course. [ She muttered, feeling the blood rise to her cheeks as she realised what she had just done ]
[ She brushed her hair back before bringing her arms down to cross on her knees, her head barely reaching it to rest on them, damn stomach was in the way. She couldn’t believe that she may have just ruined the only true friendship she’d had with somebody since finding out about her child. His next words made her feel bad, but surely he was just saying it to make her feel better ]
I’m not saying you think of me like that, I just thought… [ She shook her head ] I thought it was something more.

[Elijah's eyes narrowed even further, his brow creasing ever so slightly as he fought to try and find the words to say. Did she truly believe that he'd only cared for her because of the baby? Did she really think that low of him, that he'd actually see her the way his brother had? As a walking incubator for her unborn child and nothing more?
The thought alone made Elijah sick. Hayley was more to him than a mother to his niece... than an object to be disposed of upon the baby's birth. He cared for her like he cared for no other. He'd welcomed her into his life, for better or worse, because he truly wanted her there. The fact that she was doubting him even for a moment caused a sadness to well up in him that he couldn't control.]
Do you really think so low of me that you would actually believe my sole interest lies in Andrea?

[ Hayley huffed, that is not what she meant, but then she’d never really had a way with words when it came to conversations like this. She was scared, but then she couldn’t stop this now, she’d already made this conversation, now she minds well end it. ]

[Elijah narrowed his eyes as he studied the young girl, his head tilting ever so slightly as he watched her. She'd confused him, he'd give her that... but she seemed to be upset with him, which immediately put him on guard.]
I'm sorry, I'm afraid I do not follow...
[He paused ever so slightly, his lips forming a frown as he did so.]

[ He hovered above the bed, doing that thing he always does, checking for reassurance from her. She nodded slightly and he finally sat on the bed, she wondered what words he would come up with and when he spoke she had to stop herself from rolling her eyes, what could possibly happen to her? ]
Elijah, I’m in a house full of vampires with your immortal brother keeping an eye on me, I could never be unsafe in this place.
[ She’d cut off his sentence and she immediately regretted it, now she’d never get the full answer, or the real one if that was the case. She bit her lip as he dropped his gaze to the blanket that hugged her frame. Her patience was wearing thin with this, she had to know whether she was the only person feeling the connection ]

[Elijah made a move to sit on the edge of the bed beside her, being careful to watch her expression to ensure she was alright with his intrusion. When Hayley made no move to stop him, he finally settled down and turned to her again.]
When you failed to come to breakfast this morning, I became worried something may have happened. I...
[He paused, narrowing his eyes as his gaze dropped to the blanket that he'd wrapped around Hayley just moments ago. He was fighting himself, he knew... fighting to keep control, and to keep the thoughts that'd been bubbling up inside of him for the past however many months at bay. The fact of the matter was, Elijah didn't know how much longer he could fight it before something had to give.
That thought frightened him more than most anything else.]
Davina has reversed the spell that the witches had used to control the city... the power has been restored. I thought you would like to know.

[ There it was again, she thought, better now. As if she made his day better just by being there, safe, or maybe was just always better because he knew Andrea was safe. She couldn’t place it and she knew it was something she’d have to ask, but she kept putting it off. ]
What do you mean? Better now?
I was sleeping, I haven’t been sleeping very well lately.

[Elijah smiled at Hayley, feeling much more at ease now that he was sure of her safety. He couldn't explain it, but the mere thought that something could have happened to her shook him more than he really wanted to dwell on. He cared for her, sure... everyone saw as much, and it was really no secret to any of them anymore. But what he felt for her went far beyond that and extended into territory that even he was frightened to traverse ever again.]
Better now, I assure you. I was afraid you may have taken ill. Why did you not come down this morning for breakfast?

[ Hayley hadn’t been able to get the Original out of her head. It was strange, obviously, she cared deeply for him and he, her. She was the mother of his unborn niece and the two seemed to get along on certain levels but she couldn’t help but feel there was something more there, but none of them were ready to admit it. Either to themselves or each other. He began tucking the sheets around her body and she couldn’t help but laugh, he was so caring, she’d never had it before but she was enjoying it, although that was also something she’d never admit. ]

[ She looked at his hand as it was placed on her shoulder, such a small and yet comforting gesture and yet again she was brought back to her thoughts, what was this? Genuine care and affection, worry for the woman that carried his family? Or was it something more? She shuffled up the bed, making sure the sheets still kept her warm ]

Of course.
[Upon realizing Hayley wasn't terribly disrupted by his presence, Elijah began to tuck her in more effectively, wrapping the warm blankets around her body before moving to stand at the edge of the bed beside where she lay.]
I brought you some things... I thought you might enjoy them.
[He smiled at her, reaching out to place his hand against her blanket-clothed arm as a form of reassurance. It'd been a while since he'd last seen her looking that peaceful. He had to admit, it was nice.]

[ Hayley was having her first nightmare-less dream in days when she felt a pressure on her feet, she fluttered her eyes, waking up from her peaceful sleep and saw Elijah stood above her, obviously checking up on her, a habit he’d picked up and he was now covering her with blankets.
She looked to the side and was blinded slightly by sunlight, what? No rain? She smiled, bringing her gaze back to Elijah. Her name rolled off his tongue and she smiled again at his apology. Not bothering to sit up, enjoying the warmth of the covers over her body, she murmured sleepily ]

Checking In || Elijah & Hayley
[Elijah walked up the mansion stairs, supplies in hand as he headed toward Hayley's room. Davina had done it. She'd somehow managed to end the blackout that'd been plaguing them for the better part of a month, and the power to the city was finally restored.
Hayley hadn't been downstairs when it'd happened. In fact, she'd been making herself scarce that day which worried Elijah more than he cared to admit. Perhaps she's just tired, he thought as he rounded the corner to where her room was. Still, the thought didn't do much to set his mind at ease. He wanted to check up on the young girl all the same, just in case it was more than a simple lack of rest that was plaguing her and causing her to shy away from gatherings all of a sudden.
Elijah made to knock, his hand coming close to the door before realizing it was slightly ajar. When he peered inside, he'd finally found the answer he'd been looking for - Hayley was fast asleep on her bed, safe.
Smiling softly, he quietly made his way to her and leaned down to place the supplies he'd brought to the nightstand beside her. Without meaning to, however, he managed to stir her awake...]
Hayley...
Forgive me, I didn't mean to wake you.
