when i was reading the books i always imagined hermione looking like me - kind of short, medium dark skin, freckles, unruly bushy hair, big teeth. and, since i imagined her as myself, i imagined her as black and latina. i’ve always related to her and her social awkwardness, intelligence, know it all personality, stubbornness, the works
i didn’t realize that projecting yourself onto a fictional character was apparently controversial. hermione granger is one of the most racially ambiguous characters i’ve ever read, and she can be white, black, latina, asian, anything you want. go for it! hermione, for me, will always be a reflection of who i am.
