NYX Goodies
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Disclaimer: This post was transferred from my old blog, and was written in March 2016, so the date shall remain as such.
So glad we are finally in March!  I have a soft spot for March because it's my birthday month, but more importantly, it's Daylight Saving Time!!!!  My favorite part of the day is between the hours of 4pm-8pm, when it's nice and dusky outside.  The air feels cool, and you can take a little stroll when it's not quite dark yet.  Also, the countdown for my move-out date is getting closer!  C'mon May!  Trying to patiently wait until the day when my dream vanity can finally be set up.  In the meantime, I'll just be over here stockpiling excessive amounts of makeup because my self control is really still developing....
My most recent purchases were some NYX goodies.  NYX is an awesome, affordable drugstore brand, that's got a great rep.  They have a lot of wonderful products that dupe high end or luxury products that a peasant like me can't afford.  They are also stocked at Ulta and CVS, aka two places I frequent.  So if ya wanna hear my thoughts (I know you read these blog posts in my voice) and see my opinions, keep reading!
Micellar water - I've heard good things about this ish, but needed to confirm for myself.  To start off with, this is a big ole bottle.  I really appreciate that for $7, I can get a bottle this large of micellar water.  It seems like a good deal, and the cap has a little spout in it, so it's relatively easy to control.  An added bonus is that NYX is cruelty free, unlike some of the other brands on the market.  One of my fav places to shop is TJMAXX (or Marshall's), and they always have random, off-brand makeup wipes.  Sometimes, these wipes aren't as good as others, but I don't want to waste them.  I like to put some of this micellar water into the wipes to give them a leg up.  It has seriously helped with my off brand wipes, and I've gotten way better use out of them. #protip
Honey Dew Me Up primer - This thing makes me feel like I should be riding around on a gilded litter carried by gorgeous, strong men while eating caviar and listening to Prince. There are little gold flakes in it, and it's a serum.  C'mon, people, how could this not be a good thing!?  On top of it's amazing appearance, it also works. I found that it kept my makeup on, even though it doesn't feel like a traditional primer.  It's not slippery and silicone-y, just FYI.  Instead, it dries down onto your face, but without feeling tight.  I don't like to use it on my undereyes, as I need a more heavy duty primer for those bags, but I like it everywhere else.  Plus It's guaranteed to make you feel like a rockstar.
NYX Lip Lingerie in "French Maid" - This color has got me feelin' some type of way.  It's a beautiful, muted plum color, almost like Kylie's "Love Bite," but a bit lighter.  I am a big big fan of the LL line, as I love me some nudes, and these new colors are no exception.  I wanted to be intentional about which color I bought (as always), instead of going crazy and getting 5.  I checked out lots of swatches before settling on this color, and I'm so glad I did!!  It's perfect for date night or maybe a night out with friends.
NYX HD concealer - This stuff is awesome.  I bought a refill this go round, and managed to snag the lightest color.  The second lightest works for me too, but I love a bright undereye!  My only complaint with this concealer is that it runs out faster that my other ones.  I usually end up adding some beauty oil to it in order to stretch it a bit longer. Other than that, I love it and highly recommend if you're looking for a good concealer that won't break the bank.
NYX Total Control foundation - Let me start off by saying that this color range is insane.  And I know this because when I used the shade finder online, I thought I'd found the perfect, light-colored foundation for peeps with yellow undertones. When it came in the mail, I realized that in fact, there were lots of different shades of pale with yellow undertones.  My first batch of this foundation was Way. Too. Light.  The fact that the name is "Pale" should have been an indicator, but I'm not that tan, people!!!  Unfortunately, I looked like I had just been raised from the grave, or was on my way there with this stuff on.  I wanted to make it work, but I knew that it wouldn't satisfy me in the long run.  A few days later, I made it out to Ulta and did an exchange.  The color I have now is much, much more suited to me, and I love it.  The packaging for this foundation is enough to make me buy it, but looks aside, it's a great product.  The coverage is great, without making me feel like I'm wearing much of anything at all. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone!  NYX really knocked it out of the park with this one.
NYX Butter Lipstick "Snowcone"- So in actuality, my mother bought this and decided it wasn't her color, so she gave it to me. (thanks, mom)  I do love bright colors, but with some, I end up needing to run interference on them to make sure they look good.  This is the type of opaque, creamy lipstick that requires a foundation base and a good liner.  This way, the true color will come through well and it won't make your lips look strange.  I also need to have a little glow with this color.  In other words, I'll probably save it for the summer, or when I fake tan. (Wear sunscreen!!)
And that's a wrap!  Now go out and get yaself some new NYX!!

E.L.F. Haul
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Happy Monday, Pavos! It's so bright and sunny here, and I'm diggin' it.  The weather this past weekend allowed for some DIY projects, which have turned out well (so far, pray for me), and it's definitely motivated me in the makeup department.  Anyhoo, that's the current life update, and my makeup post for this week has to do a lil E.L.F. haul I did back in January.  I've got photos and reviews of all the products, so keep on reading to hear my thoughts and perhaps have a giggle.
Eyes Lips Face has been around for a hot minute now, and not only is it super affordable, but it's also pretty dang good.  I've had great success with a fair number of the products, so I'm excited to share with y’all.
Molten Liquid Eyeshadow:  Y'all already heard me talk about these on my Friday Favorites, but I love them!!  When Kylie came out with her bday collection, I was sad because my bank account wouldn't let me get the rose gold and copper shadows.  I shed a lil tear, but then these puppies came along and the world was a better place.  The tubes are packed full of pigment, and the colors are so beautiful!!  It did take me two coats to really get solid color payoff, but can you say "Shine bright like a diamond"!?  These are perfect for the metallic trend going on right meow, so pick em up, if you haven't already.
Coconut Lip Exfoliator:  This is a cult favorite of E.L.F.ers. It resembles a lipstick, but is actually full of grit to exfoliate ya lippies.  It applies like a lipstick, and tastes pretty yummy (although I don't recommend eating it on purpose).  Once the exfoliating is complete, I take a washcloth and wipe away any excess to reveal soft, supple lips.  Be sure to apply some sort of lip protectant afterwards!
ELF Primers:  I've had the mineral primer for a bit now, and it's one of my favorites.  It's the perfect consistency, without feeling heavy on my face.  It also retails for $6 doll hairs, so it's very economical.  Because I love this one so much, I thought I'd try some others.  The two I picked up are the hydration primer and the poreless primer.  They come in such pretty packaging, I can't help but want to buy them all!!  However, if I had to pick, I'd 10/10 go for the hydration one.  It is so similar to the mineral one, but works so well for colder days.  It helps my face from getting too dried out, which in turn makes my foundation break up on my face.  Between these two, I feel like I've found my perfect summer and winter primers.  The poreless one was a total no go.  I liked the consistency, but found that my makeup didn't sit well at all, or stay set. It broke up on my face and looked streaky.  I sort of felt like my makeup was sliding all over the place, and wasn't actually staying put. 10/10 would not recommend.
Baked Highligher:  I'm just going to be honest, I should have bought the other highlighter that wasn't baked, and I got this one by mistake.  I'm not a big fan of anything "baked", unless it's a cupcake or my under-eyes.  Especially with E.L.F., I have found that their baked stuff isn't really worth it. The products tend to be dry and chalky, with little pigment.  I don't hate this highlighter, but I do feel like I really have to rub it to get any product.  I'll probably use it every so often, but it won't become a staple.
Highlighter Brush:  I am a brush junkie, and this one is a classic!  It's got a great shape, and is also just the right size for highlighting.  I'm very particular about my brushes, but I got serious good vibes from this one.  Highly recommend if you're looking to add to your brush collection, or you need some everyday staples.
Aqua Beauty Blush & Bronzer:  This product is almost creme-like, so I'm saving it for a colder day. It is very pigmented, so I want to wait until I'm feeling more dramatic.  Honestly, I'm always dramatic, but I don't always channel the inner drama onto my face.  The bronzer is matte, so that would be helpful for contouring, and the blush is a bright pinky/coral color.  The "Aqua Beauty" line from E.L.F. features products that are packed with hydration, so I'm excited to see how this one holds up on cold winter days.
Beautifully Bare Smooth Matte Eyeshadow:  This color is everything!! It's called "Blushing Rose" and I love love love it.  It works well as a deeper base for a dramatic eye, but would also look awesome with a shimmer color blended on top.  Overall, this color is a versatile warm, so it would pair well with most eyeshadows.  I like that it's super creamy, but also very blendable and easy to work with.
Free Eye Kit:  I spent over $25 and got this free eye kit, so I included it with my reviews.  I forgot to snag some photos of the mascara, so please forgive me.
-Baked Eyeshadow Palette (California): The colors in this palette are so beautiful, but because it's baked, it didn't fair well under my harsh judgments.  There was barely any pigment to any of the shadows, and they felt crusty and dry.  I so wanted this palette to work out, but it seems it will get relegated to the back of my palette stash.  I haven't decided whether or not to throw it out....
-Liquid Eyeliner:  This is just a chunky liquid eyeliner, but I'm actually a fan! It worked well the first time I used it, and gave me good wings.  The tip held up well, although the color wasn't as intense after running over my eyeshadow.  Overall, I like it and will use it, but I'm not freaking out about it.
-Mascara:  I wish I had a name for this mascara, but there was literally nothing written on it.  The brush sort of reminds me of the Maybelline Great Lash mascara.  I didn't know if I'd like it or not (I'm a wand snob), but was pleasantly surprised.  I felt like it made my lashes longer, and still gave good separation.  It's definitely one I'll use on the occasion, and it wasn't difficult to remove.
