Chapter summary: Later that day after Buck's asthma attack, his chest cold finally catches up to him and Tommy takes care of him.

A/N: I wasn't planning on making a second chapter, but Buck deserves someone who is soft and patient with him, so here鈥檚 more! I think I may write one more chapter. You can also read this on Ao3 here.
It was almost 10 AM when Buck started to slowly wake up, his cheek pressed against Tommy's chest from where he had fallen back asleep after his asthma attack. Dragging his eyes open, Buck winced at the pounding headache he had from crying and reached up to rub at his sternum, his chest still feeling achy and sore.
Feeling Buck's movements, Tommy opened his eyes with a yawn and smiled tiredly at the younger man.
"Morning. How are you feeling? Is your chest tight again?" Tommy asked, immediately on alert again as he watched Buck rub at his chest.
"Good morning. I'm okay, my head hurts from crying. And my chest is sore, maybe a little tight. I think I caught that chest cold that's been going around the station," Buck said softly with a pout as he nuzzled his face into Tommy's chest again, shivering slightly.
Frowning at hearing how Buck was feeling, Tommy was equal parts worried for the other, but also proud that he was comfortable enough to admit he wasn't feeling very well.
Tommy leaned down to drop a kiss to Buck's forehead before he grabbed the comforter to pull up around his boyfriend's shoulders more.
"You're warm. I think you've got a fever. Let me go see if I've got some cold medicine. If I don't, I might just have to give you some Tylenol and go out later," Tommy mused, running his fingers softly through Buck's hair before he tried to shift his way out of Buck's hold.
Frowning, Buck held tighter onto Tommy's waist and shook his head. "I'm fine for right now. Don't leave, you're warm," he whispered softly, his voice still raspy as he looked up at his boyfriend.
"Babe, I understand that you want me to stay, but I need to get you medicine. I don't want this cold to make your asthma worse. It'll be much more of a pain in the ass if it settles in your lungs," Tommy explained gently, knowing that Buck would be more likely to listen if he approached with reason. "I promise, I will be right back. I have to actually give you the medicine after I find it in order for you to feel better."
Buck let out a small huff of disapproval before he nodded in agreement and pulled back from Tommy, wrapping the comforter tighter around his shoulders in the meantime as the older man got up.
"I'll be right back. You look adorable by the way," Tommy smiled as he got out of the bed, dropping a kiss to the top of Buck's head before he headed into his bathroom. Opening up the medicine cabinet, Tommy grabbed the Tylenol first, just incase, before he spied a bottle of cold medicine. Looking at the back of the medicine, Tommy let out a sigh of relief when he noticed it was still within date and brought it back to the bedroom.
"Can you sit up for me? I hope you're okay with artificial cherry, it's all I've got right now." Tommy sat down gently on the edge of the bed and poured the correct dosage of medicine before handing it over to Buck after he sat back up, smirking as the other man threw it back like a shot before grimacing.
"Yuck. Now can you come lay back down with me?" Buck asked with a pout, patting the spot on the bed.
Let's make a deal, you migrate to the couch so I can keep an eye on you while I make breakfast, and while we're eating, you get to pick the movie," Tommy offered as he ran his fingers through Buck's hair. Normally he wouldn't have cared too much about Buck being alone in the bedroom, but watching him wheeze in the pitch black of the night had Tommy a little anxious, and he wanted the other where he could see him.
Buck thought over the offer before nodding and slowly getting to his feet with a shiver. "Deal. Can I steal a sweatshirt though? I'm freezing."
"Yeah, let me grab you one. Head to the couch and I'll be there in a minute," Tommy smiled, watching Buck make his way to the worn leather couch before he opened his closet to grab his LAFD hoodie, the same one that had Buck blushing the last time he wore it while staying over because it has Tommy's last name on the back.
Surveying the room before he followed Buck, Tommy rolled his eyes when he saw Buck's inhaler still on the side table and grabbed it to bring out as well.
"Alright. One hoodie, and your inhaler. You forgot it on the side table," Tommy said as he handed Buck the sweatshirt before setting the inhaler on the coffee table in front of Buck.
"I didn't need it right now, so I didn't grab it," Buck shrugged as he took the hoodie and tugged it on, smiling at the faint scent of Tommy's laundry detergent and cologne.
"It doesn't matter if you don't need it right now babe. But you are sick and you just had an asthma attack earlier, we need to keep it close by incase you need it again. I know you probably don't have attacks often, but seeing you like that scared me. I understand why you didn't wake me up. But in the future, please bother me. I would rather lose sleep than lose you," Tommy said as he gently kissed Buck's cheek before dropping a second one onto his forehead before heading into the kitchen.
Within minutes, Tommy had two mugs of coffee made, one with almond milk and sugar for Buck, and one with just a few spoonfuls of sugar for himself. After handing Buck his mug of coffee, Tommy started to work on breakfast, deciding to make banana chocolate chip baked oats, figuring that would be something comforting that Buck would enjoy.
Buck sipped his coffee slowly from the couch, having turned his whole body to watch Tommy cook. It felt so domestic, and so foreign to Buck. Sure, he had lived with Taylor, but none of their mornings ever felt like this, him being cared for while his partner cooked and he just got to sit and watch. "How long is that gonna take to bake?" Buck asked curiously as the oven finished preheating.
"Twenty-five minutes, and then they have to cool. Are you going to want fresh fruit on top of yours? I've got more bananas, and maybe some strawberries," Tommy offered as he went to look in the fridge again after placing the baking dish in the oven.
"More banana is good. Can I also maybe get a glass of water?" Buck asked, tugging at the hoodie sleeves nervously.
"Of course you can," Tommy smiled as he filled a glass of water for Buck before he moved to sit with his boyfriend on the couch as breakfast baked. "Is there any medicine I need to grab from your apartment later? I know you've got the inhaler, but do you have a preventer you need? Or a nebulizer? I never saw any of that around your place before so I wasn't sure."
"Thank you," Buck smiled as he drank some of the water, another blush creeping onto his face as Tommy asked him about medicines.
"I used to have a nebulizer, but now I just have the inhalers. To be honest it hasn't really affected me too much as I've gotten older, now just whenever I get sick or occasionally during allergy season and wildfire season. I mostly just keep the inhalers around for my sister's peace of mind. She used to be a nurse, so she's always on me to have it filled just in case. I'm actually surprised this one is still in date," Buck admitted with a nod to the inhaler on the coffee table, picking it up curiously to look at the expiration date on the canister.
Tommy leaned over to look at the expiration date too. "End of this month. Is your prescription still active? If you're comfortable doing so, maybe you can keep a spare one here? You spend enough time over here, you might as well leave one. It would be one less thing to remember when you stay over."
Buck thought it over as he snuggled into Tommy's side. "It is still active, and I can just bring the spare one from my bathroom next time. I probably don't need one there and in the bedroom. Then I can just replace this one when it expires," Buck decided as he turned his head to gently kiss Tommy's cheek. He knew it was most likely inevitable that Tommy was going to get the cold, but he was trying to keep him from getting sick as long as possible.
"Thank you for not pushing about it. I try not to talk about my shitty lungs. Since they haven't really caused me much problems, only a few people at work really know," Buck admitted, nuzzling his face against Tommy's shoulder.
"I'm sorry, what? You've worked there for seven years, does Eddie at least know?" Tommy asked with a frown as he held Buck close to his chest, shocked at how little his boyfriend seemed to care about his own well-being.
"He does, but I never actually told him. He just kind of figured it out one day," Buck admitted, ducking his face to avoid the concerned look that he knew Tommy was probably giving him.
"Figured it out? I take it you weren't taking care of yourself? Putting everyone else's well-being before your own?" Tommy guessed, tilting Buck's chin up to have the younger man look up at him. "We're going to work on that, okay? Even if I have to manhandle you into bed to rest when you don't feel well."
Buck's eyes widened at Tommy's words and a blush spread across his cheeks at the idea of the other man being gentle, yet firm in taking care of him. "Eddie figured it out after I had to use my inhaler when we got back from a call one day. I was sitting in my truck after trying to catch my breath. But I definitely wouldn't be opposed to you taking care of me like that," he admitted, voice barely above a whisper as his thoughts immediately went south and he had to take a sip of his coffee to calm his brain.
Smirking at the effect his words had on Buck, Tommy dropped a kiss to Buck's birthmark. "I'm glad that you have at least one person who knows at work. And we will definitely be having a talk about your reaction to the idea of me manhandling you later. But first, breakfast."
Tommy gently moved Buck as the timer went off and got up to take breakfast out of the oven, and putting it into bowls for them both before settling back down with Buck, knowing that after they ate he was going to have to press a little more to get him to open up. It was going to be a slow process, but Tommy knew it would be worth it once Buck knew he could fully trust him and lean on him. He wanted Buck to know he could text or call him if anything was going on or if he needed Tommy to just be there for him. And he would wait for Buck to open up as long as it takes, but until then, Tommy turned the TV on to a rom-com his boyfriend chose, content with Buck curled tight to his chest for the moment.
