Theory time y'all
Moreso headcanons and self-indulgent projecting
Protag is constantly anxious because of his parents' temper, so he drugs himself to be able to sleep well and hides the pills to not scare them.
Growing up, my parents had, and still have, a pissy temper, which is the reason why I'm always anxious over small things. But, they still care. They still love me. So, no true hard feelings :]
In Protag's case, however, his parents aren't all that nice, maybe they force him into their religion, saying shit like "if you don't pray every night, you'll be possessed by demons and you'll die an awful death" or whatever christians/catholics say. They're very strict, especially when it comes to religion, like, "Carrie" levels of strict. That explains why they'd freak out if they found out Protag drugs himself to be able to sleep better.
They also, as I mentioned earlier, have an awful temper. They shout constantly, be it at each other, at nonsense, or at Protag himself, making him anxious, nervous, quick to react and be as neat and nice as possible, to not make them scream. Maybe he uses the sleeping pills on them, as well, to finally shut them up for a bit or so they're less cranky and likely to shout during the day.
Either way, Protag feels never-ending anxiety because of his parents. Because of how they raised him, because of how they behaved around him and because of all the pressure they unknowingly put on him. Protag puts on a display, makes them think that they're good parents, because he's scared they'll scream at him for not telling them sooner or insult each other and themselves, so he deals with it. He deals with how poorly they treat him, just so they won't scream and scar him more.
But hey, that's just a theory.
A GAME THEORY
I know everyone knows that protag has the entire family issues right?
But why do y'all only talk about the fourth floor?
Like- THERE'S A FUKIN' FLOOR WHERE YOU NEED TO GIVE A DRUGGED CAKE TO A MOUTH????? LIKE- ARE THERE ANYONE WHO THINKS THIS IS WEIRD???
Like... I don't know... Him hiding the sleeping pills... Having to drug a cake...
Also, there's that one thing when you click on the lamp
Saying that "it's to make the monsters away"
Like... What monsters? Did his parents or... His dad or something get into his room at night?
Or that cross up his bed, does it mean he prayed for that so called "monster" not get on his room again? Or maybe... The face he makes when we click there has something to do about... Religion trauma? LIKE- DUDE!!!
THERE IS SO MUCH MORE Y'ALL CAN MAKE THEORY OF AND I NEVER SAW ONEEEE!!!
Okay, now... Coming back to that thing about having to drug a cake. Apparently he knew where the pills where hidden. It was him that hid the pills. For what? To drug a cake. But... Who was he goin to give that cake? Was that mouth one of the monsters he's so scared of? I mean... His parents? It could be. Because he knew where the pills where hidden so it could've been him that was drugged. Or maybe... He drugged himself in secret? But why??? And don't tell me it's because of something that has to do with his parents. Because it can't be that shallow. IT NEED TO HE SOMETHING DEEP, Something... SOMETHING THAT ISN'T THAT EASY TO EXPLAIN???
It might just be like- he had that pills he knew where it was hidden on his room and the cake might just be from another part of his life or something. And it was just a puzzle with no deep story in that- BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MOUTH??? ITS STILL SUS. Who was that mouth from??? Because every floor has something to do about the protagonist. Like- a trauma that he has? God! Just give me theories about it all??? I need to hear the others opinions!!! PLEASE COMMENT ABOUT IT.
