Hello!
So currently I am in Tromsø, in the north of Norway. I am here because in just DAYS I will be attending the annual Aikido Winter-camp, or Seminar!
Now this seminar is a bit special, because my dear Sensei will be grading for 4th Dan! It is on Saturday this week, and I’ve never seen my Sensei grade before (I think that’s normal..?).
However!
My username isn’t just some fun pun that rhymes. I am.. an idiot (Baka = Idiot). My Dogi has somehow vanished.. I delivered it off to be washed, and I haven’t seen it since. It breaks my heart that not only the Dogi I bought in Japan has been lost (hopefully I’ll find it..), but also my belt. My dear belt that I have had ever since I first tried martial art (Jiu Jitsu, 3 years ago). I never even washed the belt per tradition, but I always kept it in the same bag as my Dogi.
It’s been hard for me to find a Dogi I could afford as well, considering that I now live on welfare from the state, and I was honestly too ashamed to tell my Sensei about this. Today however I was able to find one nearby that was only 300NOK, and a Judo Dogi as well.
However!
It is size 5 (180cm).. The one I bought in Japan was size 3 and a little too big on the top, and the Dogi I had gotten from Jiu Jitsu was 170cm. The suit didn’t come with a belt either, so I’m lacking that as well.
So in a short summary:
I’m in Tromsø, my Sensei is grading 4th Dan on Saturday. My belt and Gi are missing, but I was able to buy a new one that was WAAAAY too big and I don’t have a belt. The Winter-camp/Seminar begins on Thursday, the day after tomorrow.

Sensei's Bokken
Today at Kenjitsu practice, Sensei’s old bokken was broken into two pieces.. I don’t know how long he’s had it, but I know it’s been many years and he cared greatly for it.
I always thought it rather beautiful, made from Japanese white oak with the kanjis for Aikido burnt into the side.. it looked very simple, but it’s simplicity was what made it so lovely. It’s simplicity, and it’s imperfections from many years of use..
I thought it indestructible. But today I was proved wrong. While demonstrating the Kesa Giri kata with one of the beginners, the sword was broken. Shattered on impact. I saw the sadness on my Sensei’s face even if it was only a millisecond, and I noticed the more than a second it took him to step out of his stance, and pick up the broken part. He smiled, took a different bokken, and continued the training.
I left the class a little bummed you could say, but the training had still been enjoyable. However, as I went to change, something crossed my mind. Sensei is to grade for 4th Dan in March. It would be appropriate to present him with a gift! So I banded up some friends, and we have begun planning! We’re ordering the bokken from Tozando, which we visited when we were in Japan! I hope this will be a gift that will last many years.

What is your biggest dream? and has Aikido helped you in anyway to archive it?
To be honest I’ve never had a dream that is any bigger than the other.. I’ve had a lot of issues deciding on what I want and any “dream” I’ve ever had, has been more like interests and hobbies..
But Aikido has helped me finding out a lot of things that I want. The philosophies that we learn in class, and the training has helped me weed out things that have merely taken up space in my head, and helped me calm the storm of thoughts.
Right now, my dream you could say is to pursue Aikido, and to take it a step further in my relationship, and Aikido has definitively helped me with pursuing it.

Petros Moulagiannis Sensei’s vistit!
So as I’ve mentioned in an earlier post, we had visitors from Greece. Petros Moulagiannis Sensei (4th Dan Iaido and 5th Dan Aikikai Aikido) and his lovely lady Tania!
Petros Sensei held a seminar here in Norway, in Brandbu as well as in Hamar. I only participated in the one that was held at the school I used to go to, here in Brandbu. It was a very educational seminar, and it was good seeing Petros Sensei and Tania again, I met them last year as well, though back then I was much too shy to talk to them, and spent most of the seminar hiding away in my room..
BUT THIS YEAR I MET UP! :D
The seminar was mainly for Iaido traning, and we learnt 3 kata (Though there was one lesson that was only for the students of the school so I only learnt 2 kata..). One of the kata I had already learnt last year, that would be Ippon Me Mae, but honestly I had long since forgotten it... This time I intend to remember it though!
The next one that was new to me was Gogon Me Kesa Giri. I liked this one. Whereas Ippon Me Mae was rough on my knees due to a lot of sitting in seiza and going up and down (I’m hyper flexible, my knees are made of rubber), Gogon Me Kesa Giri was done all standing.
The last one, that I had to learn last minute from just watching the others, was called Roppon Me Morote Tsuki. Like I said.. I hadn’t really learnt this one, but on the last lesson on the last day we were going to perform Gogon Me Kesa Giri and Roppon Me Morote Tsuki for Petros Sensei, so.. I watched, and I learnt, and I tried really hard! I think I did okai.. This technique was a lot like the previous, but kind of opposite.. There were other differences as well, of course, but that is the easiest way to explain it.
All in all I had a really great time, and it was very educational. I hope to see them again soon. Though for their sake, maybe not in the winter months.. They didn’t like the cold and the ice!

How to tie obi? And which kyu u have? (:
This is how I tie my Obi, and I’m afraid that due to certain reasons, I couldn’t join the rest of my class on our first grading, so I don’t have a kyu yet Q^Q
I intend to grade at the next chance though, my Sensei has verified my skill is quite enough for it.

Haaaai
I’m sorry I haven’t been posting for a while, a LOT of things have happened!
For one I don’t have a room mate anymore! I moved out of the school I was at and now have an apartment on my own. I still practice Aikido ofc!
We had a visitor from Greece, Petros Moulagiannis Sensei. He’s very badass! I’ll write a different post about that later.
My Sensei, Dimitris Farmakidis has been put up for grading to 4th DAN! He’ll be doing his grading at a seminar in Tromsø, that is 2-5 of March. I do believe Suganuma Sensei was going to come as well. I hope I can make it.. I’m not sure if I’ll have the funds for it..
There’s other things ofc that has happened as well, but this is as much as I’m going to write in this post for now. Thank you for reading!

WELL!
So I saw a dumb and old tumblr post with 3 pictures of a well and then it said “What do we have here” and then I just started making well puns! And then when I ran out and my roomie was happy being all “FINALLY”, I googled “Words with Well in it” and just found the most puntastic webpage that has it all!

PARTEH!
We just had our little Get-To-Know-Each-Other party! It went beautifully! I was first on stage with my zen story about too much, then there was one guy reading a poem, and after that, my room mate and me performed “For the Dancing and the Dreaming” from How To Train Your Dragon 2! It was SO MUCH FUN!
And as one of the last performances of the night was our quartette The Silly Willies! It went awesome! We were totally out of tune, out of sync and out of our minds! It was so much fun, and I have a video! I will upload it as soon as I’ve made it a smaller file! It was so much fun! xD

Da Vinci’s Notebook!
Tomorrow is gonna be a hilarious day! At the same time I’m waiting for Sensei’s disapproving face when 2 class mates, me and one guy from a different major at our school are going to perform “Enormous Penis” by Da Vinci’s Notebook at the Get-to-know-each-other party for the first-years! xD

Newbies
So my Folk High School started just a few days ago, it’s my second year here (yes I love it that much).
The new guys were handed out their Keiko Gi (Training suit) today and I spent pretty much all lesson showing them how to wear it, how to tie their Obi (Belt) and how to hold their Boken (Wooden Sword) in a respectable manner. Was fun! Almost a little reminder to my first time in a Dojo cx

Too Tired
It's half past midnight, the school is asleep, the dorm is silent, the only thing that can be heard… is the hysterical laughter coming from room 301!
My room mate and me are overly tired as fuck and reading Jaden Smith's tweets and suddenly we get into the origins of the illuminati conspiracy theory! And then once again we remember we have to get up at 6am.. and laugh even harder from our hopelessness and despair.
