Bellis perennis (common daisy var. 'Bellissima Rose')
Who would believe that this beautiful creation is just a souped-up version of the common white daisy that inhabits our lawns? The modern cultivated Bellis perennis comes in a variety of colors and shapes, including this highly-doubled, pink variety 'Bellissima Rose'.
Daisies are 'heliotropic' meaning that their flowers follow the sun in the day and the petals close at night. In 1400, in The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer called this flower "the eye of the day" and the word 'daisy' is believed to be derived from 'day's eye'.
