LINK ROT / TRANSMISSION 001 / APRIL 3rd, 2024

Link Rot is a multimedia webserial following those within a research station. Once dedicated to the study and containment of a newly discovered life form, complications arise following its unexpected merge with the station's AI. TRANSMISSION 001 - In which you survive the unthinkable, and the world is worse for it.

wow!!! it's been (checks archive) almost exactly a year since i originally conceptualized Link Rot, and since then it's grown into a beast of a story i cannot wait to tackle.

currently i'm aiming for updates once every month/month and a half (with occasional vacations to work on bite-sized projects). i'd like to do more, but i have a job and don't want to burn myself out. for now, i will take things slow B) maybe this will change in the future!

i hope you all enjoy reading my story as much as i enjoy creating it. there's a couple of hidden things on the website, so if you find anything fun let me know

i'm able to do 3D prints, which will end up being the full, unbroken version (see my last post), OR i can do casts of specifically my bronze (with all the "unique" features, scrapes, etc..) in resin! as a preliminary estimate, a 7" resin print (which can also be touched up to smooth out any print lines, tho i actually kept some in my bronze one!) would be around $150, with an extra $10 for shipping (or free local pickup)

smaller versions though..... let's talk bestie!

I hope this isn't rude or too forward but I saw your post about illustration commissions and was wondering if you would ever consider doing sculpt comms? I would definitely try to save up to buy something like that minotaur, it's absolutely breathtaking. I totally understand and respect if that's a no though, just thought I'd ask/let you know there's interest

hello anon!! not rude or forward at all, you are infact very kind!!! (and srsly thank you, i appreciate it a lot! i'm soooo happy people are identifying with it and Interested in it oh man......<333)

i would absolutely be into doing sculptural commissions!! please feel free to come dm me anytime to talk about specifics, but for anyone broadly curious, here's more info on how a sculpture commission would go, below cut (with a lot of probably unnecessary explanation about the 3D printing process, + some other bronze works of mine!):

SO! for the creation of the piece, i always start with research (content and anatomy) and tons of sketches, which i then bring into Blender and primarily make models that way! currently i'm familiar with a range from low poly to very very high poly. i've worked in game-ready (low poly, baked textures, UV mapped, rigged) models, as well as more static sculpting (statues, usually for 3D printing), which i assume is what you're after!

using the minotaur piece as example, i had a rougher sculpt, and over the course of about a month i got it to the final, clean (but high res) mesh - which is then what i would bring into 3D printing programs and then have printed!

(last two are same model - second shows off vertices/complexity)

if you're looking to get models to 3D print yourself, i can help set up 3dm files (or just the .obj itself, clean enough to print) and will essentially function like an illustration commission - sketches, characters, rendering, etc. if this were commissioned, i would likely put it around $200 for this complexity. you would get my blender file and any other formats you'd like depending on how you'll use them

now.... if you're extra spicy and looking for actual, physical products - I CAN DO THAT TOO! first of all, we have the luxury of 3D printing in basically any color, and sometimes clear! two options:

3D print PLA (lower detail, cheap to print, usually under $35). example:

3D resin print (much higher detail, more expensive. this print cost around $120 BUT that's because i was dumb and it isn't hollow, so it'll be less in the future):

BEYOND 3D PRINT: if you want a physical copy that's more refined than a simple print, fear not: i can make molds to then use other materials to create the piece! price would the 3D model process + a fee for initial printing for mold-making (supplies and labor), and then then price of what material you'd like!

most likely will be a resin cast (sturdy plastic - i say cast instead of print, because print is right from the computer, but cast will be refined, likely a little smoother/lighter)

IF YOU WANT THAT BRONZE, THO.....

to keep it brief: bronze casting takes a lot of time, effort, and materials. and is generally an expensive trade. BUT I WOULD LOVE TO DO IT!

in the past, i've also made bronze ash trays, and a different statue guy you can find from a few years ago on my blog! here's two different ash trays:

(these sold for $100 and $150 respectively, a little bigger than hand size)

if you are interested in getting bronze done, please shoot me a message anytime! the turnaround time at minimum would likely be 3 months from initial idea to finished bronze. the final product would include a base (if needed), and would be waxed with easy care instructions.

i will be posting some listings for bronzes i've already made, though, so if you want an ash tray like those, keep an eye out (or hit me up before march, i can make them on the cheap until then lol).

lost wax cast bronze, patina & paste wax

2023

my minotaur boy!! pls click on the photos for higher res! my thesis is focusing on trans men and creatures (how original ik) and this was last semester's final. i spent a lot of time looking at sculptures of the theseus/minotaur story, and yknow? a LOT of them are erotic! i'm pretty sure i saw some of them on tumblr a decade ago, and that's led to this now!

as you'll notice, the minotaur has a big t-dick! i wanted to give him breasts and an enlarged clitoris to present a very masculine trans figure. the boy on the bottom is also trans because i say so . the piece is about looking up to older, bigger, hairier trans men and seeing something awe-inspiring and beautiful. the minotaur was locked up by a cruel father for being different, and i think modern adaptations tend towards a sympathetic asterion (his name in one version)

making this piece was. so much effort. it took me about 3 months to get it all together - from clay model (plasticine) to 3D print to silicone mold to wax cast, and finally bronze pour into the shell mold. and then a TON of filing, sanding, dremel-ing, and various other metalworking techniques that probably took years off my life.

i started with sketches and made theeeeeee ugliest model ever:

then used a 3D scanner to get it digital, then spent a goooood month or two making him pretty in blender! then i spent an agonizing few weeks trying to get it print-ready, and fiiiiiinally did

^^^ an early resin printed draft of the model - you can see in the final that i added lots to theseus after some feedback, but sadly the nosering broke off every time i cast it so i just. let that be <3

then came the moldmaking, and then the wax dipping!! the yellow stuff is shell mold (ground up ceramic bits and algae soup, sticks to the wax, then silica sand in varying sizes on top) which gets the wax melted out, and bronze poured in!

then it's all metalworking, cutting stuff off, and working with hot metal. they don't tell you about all the bronze dust and how annoying it gets wearing a respirator AND goggles. but it is for me health, me boy. here's him all cleaned up before the patina:

and then i spray him down with various chemicals to make it "patina" (aka rust) in pretty colors. wait a few days, then apply paste wax to seal it and give it that shine!

then we get what you see above!!! the blue was actually unintentional, and i'm still not super sure why it looks that way.. but it's pretty so idc <3

i come from the 8tracks generation where you weren't allowed to just dump three and a half twee indie folk/tswift records into a fanmix and call it done. on 8tracks you had 8+ handpicked songs in rigid chronological order and an accompanying mission statement and thesis defence detailing exactly why each one applied to your derek x stiles coffee shop au AND cover/track-list art hodgepodged from stolen pinterest/tumblr aesthetic photography, and all of this was done under constant threat of death because it was the DMCA wild west and the site was in a constant state of gradual collapse.

#if you see me melting in 105+ degree weather while wearing 2 shirts and a hoodie just keep moving okay #not even dysphoria for me much now its more Autism Clothing #i have worn the same jacket/hoodie since 2014. it is a winter coat and i wear it year round bc it Feels Good :)#i had thw first one (in black) until i graduated hs and then bought a new grey one slightly larger. its got holes in it and burn marks #from my work. but its waterproof so its goooooood and has good pockets #this art is great btw i love it sm #really really conveys the feeling through the linework. excellent job
