The only AND I MEAN THE ONLY reason why Rhaenyra was eventually forced to marry Laenor is because she HERSELF rejected every single guy out there that tried to marry her. Alicent convinced Viserys to give Rhaenyra the freedom to marry whoever she likes, the freedom Alicent herself never had, but Rhaenyra was being a bitch about it and was playing hard to get, so now of course she was forced to marry her gay cousin with whom she couldn’t have any children. Those were direct consequences of her own actions.

Sometimes I think about Viserys and the fact he lost an eye in the ten years after the events of Driftmark and I wonder if I'm the only one seeing something precise in it. Nothing will ever give me more satisfaction than seeing that pathetic excuse of a man bedridden and too ill to move on his own, especially after all he did to Alicent and her children when they were born children, not ideas, obsessions and ghosts he killed another woman for. But why his eye?

The night he denied his son the mercy of a father, and only granted him the sterness of a King. The night he dismissed his wife and her rage, the night he clearly showed everyone where his love lay. The night he broke his family apart in his greatest attempt to mend them, but through silence and fear, not love and sincerity. Because they're his subjects, and his word is a law they must all follow.

Alicent is tired of keeping silent and being afraid. She demands justice instead, some kind of punishment, some kind of mercy. Anything, from anyone who can give it.

The next time all of his family is reunited, however, he's nothing but a father who gave the cold shoulder to his son who had been mutilated. To his son whom he denied justice.

So he pays the price for it. As he walks to his throne and is carried to his table, he forces everyone to bear witness.

gonna break my brain if i think too much about how rhaenyra says specifically, "alicent's son sits my throne." LIKE EXACTLY. EXACTLY!!! all of this conflict and strife - the entire story, where it begins and ends, is ALL ABOUT ALICENT AND RHAENYRA. they are the core of everything. and rhaenyra knows it to the extent that she won't even say aegon's name.

Alicent, the terrible mother

Like all mothers that can't treat her children in the same way.

Aegon looks so much like her, so she is harsh and stern, as she tries to prevent him from being what she once was or something that will only harm him. She doesn't know what to do with him, nobody told her what to do with it.

Helaena is unreachable. So she tiptoes around her and doesn't quite know how to reach her in a way she will receive and understand, in a way she will accept.

Aemond... he have everything she wanted to cultivate in her and her other children, but he sometimes do things she cannot control, it frightens her.

Daeron sweet Daeron. You climb tries and jump from high places, when are you going to stop giving your mother a heart attack? When are you going to come back and be just a baby again? When will they let her take care of you again?

Every slap, every tear, every scream, every desperate action. She did out of love, out of the need to protect and guard. It has intent, though it can be wrong and a mistake sometimes.

Parenting is trial, there is wrongs and rights. There is love and interest.

Each child is different, each one needs and receives something different. It's easier to show her love for ones, difficult to show her love for others.

You can clearly see who loves, you can clearly see who only have interest. You can clearly see who only have hatred.

Alicent is a successful parent. She nurtured as she could, she fought and fights as she can. Because if she doesn't, nobody will, not for her or for them.

You can critique parenting styles and it's effectiviness, but don't say there isn't love there.

A discourse that bores me is the “Alicent treats her kids like Otto treated her “ cause it’s really much more complicated than that .Yes Aegon is forced into a role that he doesn’t want like Alicent ,but it’s about keeping someone you love safe instead of selfish ambition .Yes ,Helaena is forced get married and bear children young but has Alicent any choice in that matter ? Marrying in the family and having to bred at thirteen is the costum for House Targaryen and honestly ,it’s the safer option for Helaena .What if Viserys (the one in charge) marries her to Jace or to a family sympathetic to the Blacks ? That would make her a hostage .At least Aegon isn’t Helaena’s abuser .Yes ,her children grow up too fast sic e they are forced to see the realities of their situation ,but isn’t it the only way to make them more equipped in life ? Isn’t this mostly Viserys fault since created the situation these kids are in?
