Review: Farmo Chocolate Chip Muffins
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: I am no huge fan of pastries or cakes. This is important to know to see how I feel about something.
When I was in Italy I freaked out at Coop supermarket as you might have read before. I love cookies but I don't freak out for cakes. Anyways I decided to try so muffins because I love chocolate.
Tumblr media
There are 4 muffins in a package with 50g per muffin. Every muffin has a single plastic wrapping around so you don't have to eat them at once. (I hate those packagings).
Honestly, these muffins were some of the best gf muffins I ever tried. I like to have them when I am around with no chance or interest to find something gf so it's easy to have one of them in my bag.
Tumblr media
What I like about them:
They are not too sweet nor too boring, they are not too dry and they have the standard consistency of every muffin including gluten - what is incredible. (And why are the best gf products only available in Italy??? 😭)
Will I buy them again? Absolutely yes.
I rate them with 9/10 and I am looking for word to grab my hands on them again in two months!
Do you have a good recipe for muffins?

Review: Céréal wholemeal bread (Belgium)
Tumblr media
Two weeks ago I've been to Belgium and I found that bread at Carrefour, I guess this is a French supermarket. The brand itself is also available in Luxembourg, I saw them at Copal some weeks ago. Because of the writing this could be available in the Netherlands, too.
While I never saw this bread I had to try it. It was not very cheap - 3.19€ for 230g and I think that's not the best deal for a bread at the supermarket. But it was so fluffy and soft so I had to try it. And if it was good I would definitely buy it again.
The bread itself looked like on the package but I forgot to take a picture of one of these slices. There were 5 slices of bread in my package.
The consistency was very soft - actually too soft for me. Beside of the soft consistency I didn't like the taste as well. Don't get me wrong: I love wholemeal bread but this one was boring and sometimes I had the feeling of eating sand. After toasting the bread it was ok but it is no bread that I would ever buy again. (Reminder: Don't buy again!!!)
So I rate this bread with 4/10.
Do you know this brand and do you like it?

Review: Giusto senza glutine "Ventaglietti" - puff pastry from Italy
Tumblr media
So today is another post about some of the things I found in Italy. (By the way I already planed the next trip for October to get some more delicious food from Italy and Switzerland. 😁)
Tumblr media
Those pastries are popular in Germany, France and Italy as well. I found some of them in our local stores but I was not that pleased.
I found them at Coop and I was curious about the taste and texture. Mostly the gluten-free version is not as cross as the standard version and yes - it's the same with these. Anyways I like them as they are tiny and wrapped as two per single package. So you always get 25g per package, in the big package are 6x25g included.
Tumblr media
I can't remember the exact price tag any more - it was in between 3 to 4 Euro. Even though there is a lot of wrapping material we know it's difficult without these for us.
These pastries are covered with sugar and honestly - I miss the partly chocolate cover which is common in Germany. (Fun fact: we call them "Schweinsöhrchen" which means "piggy ears" and I couldn't eat any of these as a child because of this name. 😅)
With my research I couldn't find them to be send to Germany, just within Italy. Would I buy them again? I think so. 😁
As they are not perfect but delicious anyways, I rate them 7/10.
Do you like this kind of pastries?

Gluten-free pizza in Italy - and other places
Tumblr media
Before we went to Genova, I looked up for different gf restaurants. There were a lot of them but as I broke my knee nearly 2,5 months ago I wasn't able to make intense rides and, honestly, I didn't want to travel for hours by car or bus to get a pizza. Our apartment was in the center near to the old haven (Porto antico) and not far away were many gf restaurants. As we ate mussels at Portofino, I was curious about Pizza in Italy.
Tumblr media
I mean, come on - Italy is the country of pizza! Sure, pasta is also important and fish and I don't know, there were many things I tried. But I told myself to eat pizza every single day - but I didn't want that. 😅
My husband found out about "Rossopomodoro", "red tomato" and this is a franchise you can also find in London (never saw it there). The pizza was made by Schaer and when I saw the new version of the pizza dough yesterday I guess it is the standard pizza ground. (In my local pizza restaurant they have a handmade gf dough but I will tell you another time about it).
Honestly, the pizza was amazing. Really amazing, crunchy and juicy and amazingly fresh with great tomatoes. (I love tomatoes so I plant them in my garden every year and I prefer old kinds.)
And what was really special: The waiters knew about the disease! When I wanted a pizza they told me the mushrooms and olives where not certified to be gf so they put something else on it. Well, usually I don't have trouble with vegetables but I was surprised. And as the gf Pizza is just 50 Cent more than the regular one - wow.
It gave me the feeling to be normal once again and I will have a look on other trips to find that restaurant somewhere else to get my gf pizza again.
The size is amazing, my husband ordered a gf pizza as well to share the pizza with me as we couldn't decide for one. In the end we couldn't eat the whole pizza so we took nearly a full pizza back to the apartment - so if you don't eat a lot and you decide for a pizza with a massive amount of cheese, you won't be able to eat a full one. The second one had way less cheese so I made it after I got the feeling of starving. 😅
Have you ever been at this restaurant?

Review: Frankonia "Milch & Kakaonibs" - gluten- and lactose- free Snack
Tumblr media
Todays review is about one of my favorite snacks. For the first three years of my gluten-free journey I just had the Schaer wafer snack which I don't like.
But one day I found the Frankonia "Milch & Kakaonibs" snack at our local Kaufland (pretty huge supermarket).
Tumblr media
The wafer has a milk-cream filling with some tiny pieces of cacao beans. For the price of 1.39 Euro you get 3 of these wafers which is not expensive.
What I like the most about them: they are crunchy and creamy at the same time, and even without nuts it comes pretty close to "Hanuta", a hazelnut wafer snack.
Tumblr media
At least it is not as sweet as the wafer snack from Schaer which I personally don't like because of this extreme sweetness.
You can find these wafers at the diet section in between the lactose- free and the gluten-free products. As I don't go often to Kaufland I get them about 3 to 4 times per year but I can really suggest you to try them if you have the chance.
I rate them with 9/10.
Did you know about these wafers and do you also freak out about wafers as I do?

Review: Italian Gnocci - Probios Gnocci in gluten-free
Tumblr media
I haven't had Gnocci for ages! When we have been to Italy, I freaked out and bought everything that was available and what I liked and missed.
We can get Gnocci in Germany as well but for some reason I was not freaking about them. But in Italy I had to buy them. I also bought them at coop but I am sure you can buy them at other stores. I also found them online and way cheaper than in Italy. Great for me so I don't have to get them at my next trip. 😊
Tumblr media
You can see a package of 250g which was in between 3 to 4 Euro (I don't remember the exact price anymore), online I found them for 1.99 Euro so this is definitely interesting of you can't get your hands on them at your local store.
Tumblr media
The Gnocci are made of organic ingredients and are quick to prepare. As we work at our house for the rest of our holidays I made them as a quick lunch. I had some precooked sauce bolognaise in the freezer (I tend to cook a lot and freeze it for those occasions when I don't have a lot of time) and after cooking the gnocci for 2 minutes I combined them with the sauce.
Tumblr media
For me was the plate with dried tomatoes and some parmesan, my husband disliked dried tomatoes so he got them just with cheese.
Tumblr media
The taste was fine but not special. I think the consistency was a bit to soft, but it was ok. My non-coeliac husband liked them more than I did.
Would I buy them again? I think so, but I wouldn't place an order just to get them.
I rate them with 6/10.
Do you like Gnocci? What is your favorite serving?

Review: Gluten-free bread from Italy: The bread that made me blog
Tumblr media
I need to tell you about the best gf bread I have ever found in my life - it's the Bene Si "pane a fette" and it seems to be available only at coop. When we were in Genova I knew about a special gluten-free store but I didn't wanted to make such a long ride though Genova (which is really huge!) so I decided to go there if my search for gluten free products was unsuccessful.
Well, we were in several small markets but they didn't have any gf bread - I expected to find Schaer in many places but I didn't. One day we stepped into coop, a supermarket that I knew from Switzerland but I did not expect the huge variety of gf products. There were so many breads but not my favorite one till then (proceli, which is also from Italy) so I looked up for one that I never had before. I didn't know this is coops own gf brand but the prices where incredible.
Tumblr media
I paid 2.05 Euro on that bread which is really cheap. I also had another one but this was not as good as this one even though it was more expensive.
The bread is soft and dense at the same time with a special structure, tastes nearly like a good toast from the bakery and is not dry, not even after toasting it.
I also had sandwiches with that bread and I am so sorry I didn't bought every single bread that was available. (I had my car with me so I could transport them easily and I could freeze them at home.)
I hope my college who goes to Italy once a month will be so kind to bring this bread to me - I will ask her. And if I get cheap flights to Italy I will take them - to get some of these products. (In past I also did this in London, but this bread was way better than the ones I bought there. I still like Italian breads over any other ones I had before.)
I rate this with 9/10.
What is your favorite gf bread? Let me know as I am so interested in tasting something else.

What is this blog about?
Tumblr media
In another post I will share this amazing recipe for a gluten free pizza which is my self made favorite by far and I had to give it so so many people yet...
Well, I just came from my vacation in Italy and I was so flashed when I saw the huge amount of gluten free (gf) products.
While we drove back home I thought about sharing my experiences, not only with products but also with several restaurants and hotels, even though I tend to book holiday apartments to be free to cook for myself.
I wanna share recipes with you which are simple and delicious as well.
I just do it for two reasons: I want to make it easier for others to find out what's good (as we coeliac people know this is not always the case) and I want to have a place to keep my memories. And we all know: sharing is caring. 😁
Please keep in mind: English is not my mother tongue so if I make mistakes - please tell me but don't judge me. Thanks a lot for reading and following!
